    Kyle - thanks so much for these ideas. We planted a raised bed vegetable garden in our little metro Boston backyard. The peas are exploding after just four weeks. We followed your directions carefully and now have a great looking trellis. One little tip: to prevent the pipes from bowing in, keep the string just a little lose when notching it.

    Great ideas. I like the mesh trellis as it can be used over.

    Just found your channel. Everyone talks about how to grow but, not how to harvest. Thanks for your easy-to- follow videos. I'm going to subscribe!

    Use the black zip ties, about the same cost but they don't degrade with the UV, like the clear ones do.

    I can see a problem with the wire mesh one, that is folded over, It probably need to face East an West, as if facing the other way it is going to cast a shadow on the plant behind....? Facing East an West it will get both sides maybe not as much sunlight as needed, but it will work.

    On your second trellis what did you use to secure the string at the bottom?

    The galvanized steel mess seems like ti would be hard to harvest the back row. Can your hands get there easily?

    would the third one be able to hold small to medium sized pumpkins?

    • @tmtx7
      @tmtx7 9 лет назад

      Hellstar Remina medium size pumpkin/squash with a diameter of up to ten inches is good but more than that can collapse the trellis because we are not talking of only one pumpkin per plant, it can produce up to five and it won't support the overall weight.

    I have a question , do you need to help the plant to climb the trellis by securing with string or will they do it by itself?

    • @NorthwestUrbanFarmer
      @NorthwestUrbanFarmer  8 лет назад

      +Rafael Valentín depends on what you're planting, but most climbing plants will find the trellis and latch on, and you can help guide it to the trellis if need be

    where do you buy the bamboo sticks?

    • @pershop4950
      @pershop4950 6 лет назад

      You can buy them from big box stores gardening area or a specifically nursery store. Also you can just check around your local area if neighbors or nearby people want to get rid of some of their bamboo, and they will be glad if you come cut them.

      I bought mine at the 99 cent store. They had 3 ft and 4 ft in a bundle of 8 bamboo sticks (I think).

    That welded wire mesh isn't galvanized. I use it all the time. I like the rusted finish and some plants don't like the zinc coating on galvanized metal. Your zip ties will degrade over time, so upgrade to wire. I take the mesh and wrap it into a cylinder, and use it for all of my climbing plants, especially tomatoes. Only problem is storing them over the winter.
