There has been a growing demand for us to produce more lore-based videos. We hope this scratched the itch, but it'd be great to hear if you all like the new format! ~Darryl
I'm all for the lore content! I have always been fascinated by the FF7 story, world building wise. How did x come to be, how does a and b connect together, etc. Sorry, I kinda went off on a tangent. That said, I still like the normal content this channel produces, keep on keeping on, my friends!
FFVII's opening with its sweeping shots of Midgar in all it's sublime oppressiveness occupies a similar space in my mind as when I first saw the Star Destroyer roll onto screen in A New Hope. They couldn't have made it clearer just how big the power difference is between the motley crew that are our heroes and the empire that literally overshadows them completely.
This is incredible. Final Fantasy VII Remake (part 1) was *very much* a story about a city. I never really understood that in the original, but it came through crystal clear in Remake. It made me look at the “Midgar section” in an entirely different way. It is a story within a story. A story worthy of a video like this. Thank you. 🙏🏻 ❤
I love that Remake expanded that and gave you a great view of what life is actually like there. The OG does a lot with a little but it's still only just a glimpse. I do wish we could have seen more of life on the upper plate for contrast though.
@@drewtheunspoken3988 True... there is a comradery that comes from living under the plates on the ground. They really worked with what they had and it had a lot of character. I'm sure above the plate wa a lot like the naivety of the employee's on the train. It's like they never look to see what the good life takes from the ground. Yet life finds a way.
I have to disagree, i think Midgars vibes are unmatched. Love the aesthetics and the concept of the city. Imho its what makes FFVII unique. Hopefully in Part 3 we get to explore Midgar even more. I would love to get a spinoff game set entirely in Midgar. Kinda like Cyberpunk. I would love to cruise around the city as a member of avalanche or even a Shinra officer unearthing some grand conspiracy or something 😀
@@milemile4813 That is too much role playing aspect for an FF. Remake did an excellent job in illustrating the society of each sector and the stark difference between the upper plates and the slums. In the og, there are like 4 npcs walking around in each sector and wall market, but in Remake, they are fully populated and they have their own cultures, vibes and lore. That can not be denied. Sure, a little more peak into the upper plate world would be nice, but its not necessary. Not letting us, the player, see the upper plates, reflects the experience as a slum dweller who is denied residence up there due to the hierarchal difference - as Daryl said in the video - those in the slums who dream of it would never be able to go up there.
Very informative video. It might be worth elaborating why the plate pillars were built with an auto-destruct, something which makes no sense if Shinra intended their mako metropolis to be permanent. I was also under the impression that the Sector 6 collapse might have been a false flag to justify the first war against Wutai.
19:17 the music sounds broken and is a little bit of a distraction. Otherwise, a great and informative video. I'm really curious as to how Reeve Tuesti not only became a director but maintains that position among the socio and psychopaths that make up the rest of the board.
I heard he is an "Inspire", so he has machine related powers. Like, he can make machines work with his mind. I don't know which story that is from, though, and don't think it's made it directly into the games.
I love your channel, and pretty much watch all the videos. Man we got to get you out there tho 😭 how so many subs but we can't get you the views you deserve. ❤
So if Shinra built Midgar from the ground up, and built reactors before Midgar’s…. Where were they initially based out of? There’s no towns that would really fit Shinra’s MO as a startup location.
Seemingly, and this is gleaned from my game of Rebirth, Shinra started in Junon, took over the Junon Republic, and eventually slithered into where they now reside in Midgar after kneecapping Kalm
I'm surprised there's not much Ever Crisis coverage in this video, especially since that turned out to be a precursor to all the Wutai shenanigans. It wouldn't surprise me if one of the reasons for Wutai's resistance was the fate of Rhadore. You couldn't cover something like that up, not entirely.
Theres some missing information, but I wonder if it didn’t change between VII and Remake: the slums used to be separate small towns before Midgar was created.
Here's one to think about. Is it possible that Shinra was correct about the reactors not being inherently harmful? We learn that all beings take in mako energy upon birth and give it back upon death in the form of the Lifestream. Well, in theory, the reactors did the exact same thing, just on a larger scale. So maybe, if Jenova hadn't been poisoning the Lifestream, Mako really would have been the miracle fuel that Shinra claimed it was.
I think Buggenhaggen makes it clear that the reactors are destroying the life stream. The reactors convert mako to energy but that energy doesn't return to the lifestream, even without Jenova.
The Mako extracted by those reactors is used in an unnatural fashion, removed from its natural cycle and lost forever. Barrett wasn't wrong when he said those things were killing the planet.

I'm loving this format! I'm looking forward to part 2.

Love all of your videos but the lore ones are going to be absolute bangers!
Love these videos. The narration, research and edited video are top quality
I love the lore videos, and it's why I subscribe.
The Shinra Company and Midgar are some of my all time favourite Lore in the entirety of Final Fantasy.

40 minute FF Lore video? Yesssss
part 1 at that
Would love to see a breakdown of the teachings of Yevon next
Oooh yes!
praise be to yevon 😅

I love the lore coverage, while I watch all your videos these are by far my favorite.
You really do spoil us FF7 fans. Thank you so much! ❤
Great video FFU. Keep bringing the lore!
Your videos are always excellent, but I think this is the best one yet! The amount of research you have done is amazing. I cannot wait for part 2!
I absolutely LOVE your lore dumps! Please do more of this! For all the games!
My favorite part of the game is when you leave that wretched place.. so oppressive feeling. The overworld is such a welcome oasis.
I love that Remake expanded that and gave you a great view of what life is actually like there. The OG does a lot with a little but it's still only just a glimpse. I do wish we could have seen more of life on the upper plate for contrast though.

@@milemile4813 They did that already... it's called Final Fantasy XIII lol

Yes! I look forward to your videos
This was such a quality video. You made my walk so much more fun with this. Thank you so much.
I always wondered about how the city was created and it's origins. Great video I will share this around
Man, that lore is amazing

I love how in Rebirth, Rufus questioned the Shinra board of directors on why no one dared to try to stop his dad from destroying Sector-7.
No way, I was just replying the game and wondering if there’s an entire lore video. You guys uploaded this 3 days ago. It must be a sign, a miracle.
Awesome. Love your videos
Man I love the deep breakdown of all these videos u do! NEVER STOP ❤
Very well done, thank you
this was great!
Midgar truly is a technological marvel. Credit where it is due, Shinra built the greatest city on the planet.
If you like Pizza lol
True, but it was built w/o merit...which is why it fell in the end
I would definitely live there
As long as I don't have to live in the Slums. Reminds me too much of Memphis & Chicago.
Appreciated! Really liking this.
Thanks for making this!
Really liked this video, always nice to get more lore on midgar and shinra
Yes~! Please 2nd part~. I love your wonderful works~ wish you all the best~💙🌹
Thank you for this, it was most informative
Nice going building up this lore of Midgar from the offiicial sources.
Love the lore videos! More please!
Love this! Such a great video
Big fan of this lore type video! Almost like an old discovery channel documentary. Excited to see the next entry!
Awesome video, can't wait for part two. I would like to see a video abut hopes and predictions for FF XVII and remake part 3.

the disappointing Nephew probably, like palmer
@@ThirtytwoJ as good of an explanation as any.
Editor: it's the main theme of Final Fantasy VII from TPR and starts off slow and has some pauses, but it's a great track 👍

they hid in caves, canvas tents and helicopters
Thank you
Great job with this one.
00:34: Diesel Punk aesthetic ? Should have gone for Stream Punk aesthetic ;) All love tho, great vid!

I clicked this so fast.
Thank you for the considerate disclaimer at the start. I'll return once I've finished Rebirth :)

Sweet Odin, Migar / Shinra is such a good analysis of the current American landscape and late-stage capitalism haha - another incredible video!
I'd like to see more lore on FF6, like each of the kingdoms like you did with Midgar.
You've yet to produce a video I didn't enjoy. I love most of the Final Fantasy games and I will always lap up every scrap of lore I can find.
great content

How to start wars in final fantasy:
Turns based FF games are more dead than the Avalanche Team
*insert cat shouting MMOOOAAAARRRRR*
fantastic. please keep up the good work.
wish you well. take care.
waiting for part 2
I will love to see someone from final fantasy living in America
Any update on part 2?

Hey team! Just wondering if you would very think of doing your own subtitles?
Where does the war with Junon fit in?
Why are the years 19XX, I thought the years in FF7 were 00X?
I liked the new content
So are we for sure that this Shinra is connected to Spira and the Shinra of FFX-2?
I hope not
That was a lame move.
Wait for PC Release or is this vid safe to watch?
Editor: I put a disclaimer at the start of the video as it does contain scenes from later chapters of Rebirth.
Comment for the algorithm. Question for the reader: How big would midgar be in real life?
Cloud and his friends and ex soldiers like assists: (Same rage like Cloud). >8(
Shinra and turks: Violent like barbarians.... T_T
More of this
Lol Life was decent in the slums but they still lived in a literal dump. Dumps have an unsettling smell. Imagine living in it day after day...
eh i kinda wanna live in midgar. above the plate. maybe a sector like 7. lucky number
Interesting, but man, that was one hell of a long Video. 🤨
As much of a douchebag Sephiroth is, I always enjoyed the fact that he hates Shinra just as much as the heroes do.
You should make a sub channel that doesn't include the garbage remake . But I don't enjoy anything about the Remake so I'm going to leave the channel
Bye 👋🏼
