What ever happened to the mindset of live and let live ? Look at what happened to the proud Native Americans who were doing just fine - any conflict was between the tribes. And once the white man had control of their lands, they were shuffled off to reservations far away from their native lands. I can't say that I blame the people of these islands for keeping to themselves and not allowing others in. Why do we think that we have the right to barge in and take over a culture that has survived for so many years - they should be left alone and respected. They may be different than most people - and should be respected for their uniqueness. Why fix what isn't broken?

The historical and sociological 'cost' was getting to live in the modern world. So the opposite of 'cost'. I think the most fascinating thing about the island is the gene that they carry that prevents genetic damage from inbreeding.
