Scotland's Smallest Whisky Distillery Tour

Tour and taste at one of the smallest whisky distilleries in Scotland, where single malt Scotch is produced has been handmade since 1825. Step inside Edradour Distillery on an insider's tour with host Darley Newman, who had to get up to film this super early and taste whisky at 8am for this! Ha! Just one of the fun behind the scenes notes on the filming of "Travels with Darley" for PBS. Edra doour is how you pronounce it - it's between waters, because there's water flowing on either side. I jokingly said to them that they're copying a French wine in the Bordelais (that's the wine-making region around Bordeaux in France) which is called Entre deux mers - between two seas or waters. They in fact do use some wine casks from France for ageing their whisky. The tannin gives it an extra finish. It may be a small distillery, but it's a great place to visit. The guide when we were there was a real professional. I still have the tasting glasses to prove that I was there.

Great small distillery to visit if open. Friendly folks and a little shop with different sized bottles to take home or for gifts. It's neat to see the stream running through the property and how it's used right in the Scotch. So many streams ("burns" as spoken in Scotland) run very clean from the mountains and hills.

So they malt their own barley? Most commercial distilleries buy in their malted barley.
