In May we headed to the best roads in Picos De Europa on the first Chickenstrips 'Picos Playtime' motorcycle tour of 2017. The lads who came away had never ridden in Spain, but left wanting to emmigrate, the place is THAT good for motorbikes! From the boozy Brittany Ferries crossing from Portsmouth to Bilbao, the lads were in fine spirits and ready to enjoy themselves. Much hilarity and high jinks followed, but everyday we sampled the very best motorcycle roads in a tour which would be hard pushed to be beaten.

That’s living your life for sure. I’m loving your vids...entertaining commentary, the sound of the bike, and the odd bit that show you’re human too, make it for me. And great taste in music to cap it off. I’m 50 in a couple of weeks and just got back into biking after an absence of 22 years...god what have I been doing man? This is the kind of touring I want to do. Maybe from 2020...I need to re-learn a lot. Stay safe and keep up the good work.

You said it Bruce...Awesome!! A great series of video's mate, have recently found your channel and subscribed. Shame about the weather, but my guess is the lads will be talking about the hail storm just as much as the awesome roads for years to come!! All part of the 'Adventure' although it doesn't always feel that way at the time, all the lads took it in the right spirit and got on with it...so all good in the end and fair crack to them. Looks loads of fun to be had on your tours, sadly, I have neither the bike, nor the ability. Hats off to Mickey P .....

+James Roberts As they are such a big group, and I've toured with them for a few years now, they just tell me when they want to go and that's that. The public tours will be live by end of November mate, I'll do loads of PR on here and fb/twitter/Instagram once the dates are live.

Love all your vids, really great. I travel yearly down to Southern Spain always spending loads time N Spain. Only observation is you take a risk with the solid white lines you cross ! I have been spotted twice by the Guardia Civil traffic doing exactly what you do and 200e fine each time! (less 50% for payment on spot). I have watched them catch loads tourists doing this, and i have learned the hard way.
Great vid...this at least the second time I’ve watched it. Regarding tyres...ones that perform well in the wet, rarely excel in the dry. On cars especially. I’d rather have a great dry tyre, because while they might not grip so well in the wet, they tend to give better feedback, which is as important as grip in my opinion. Most surprising bike tyre for me for all round confidence, is the Rosso Diablo 3 - ridden from zero to 30c and everything in between.

I enjoyed the Picos last year (2016) and hope to go back in a 2019 for a bit longer and explore more of it.
The road from Riaño to Pôtes is a damn good road.

We stayed at the Hotel Presa in 2015 - very hospitable and the Picos is a tremendous place for riding your motorcycle. I've not experienced anything like it, anywhere else in Europe, and I've done a lot of France, Italy, Switzerland and Germany.
Great video, the hailstones bit was hilarious. But, slightly concerning watching the GS running wide on quite a few corners, had me clenching the old cheeks. Nice editing as well, you did good sir.

Your split screen views were great, they really accentuated the twisties. I would also recommend more time on the meal breaks taking in the rider thoughts of how their day was going.
Looks like you all had a blast. Top review on the tyres, I don't think I've ever seen a "live" tyre review, and in real conditions too. Drone footage is a really nice addition (weather permitting) If you have a rouge Rupert in the group he should be made to wear a hi- viz so the real lads can avoid following him. Really enjoyed the whole series, well done on it.

Roadtec 01 were good enough for an 8.36 Bridge to Gantry on the 'ring and on my SuperDuke GT and if I knew better where I was going, could have gone faster. They really have loads of grip and you can use up the chicken strips on the front.
Mileage was about 3500 and, they have to be replaced as a pair as the fronts can not do 2 rears.
It may just be your bike Sir because they will grip and grip :-) Thanks for the video
+Ben Culverhouse Cheers Ben, yeah I was surprised at how they 'skipped' when hot as I'd heard a lot of great things about them. However some good friends of mine who race at a fairly high level have all said they get the Roadtec's to skip too, but they like that feel in a tyre, so I suppose it's just a personal choice isn't it.
Don't get me wrong, they are a fantastic tyre, the wet grip is just superb 👍
Hi Bruce, thank's for the reply on the tyres! I have the Roadtech 01's on my r1200rs and feel the same, squirley in the heat brill in the wet. Mainly use my bike for touring and I'm off to Picos next year or maybe go with you guys! Do you feel you would of been happier with the Dunlop Roadsmart 3's in Spain?? Cheers!
+Marshall Hewison I actually went the next month on another tour and had the Roadsmart 3's on for that. Loads better in the heat/dry.

Great vid Bruce. Surprised you had any issues with 01. I used them on my big tour last year on my MT09 Tracer (84 days, 26 countries, 11500 miles. Used them up to Nordkapp and the rear was shot at 10000km in Bulgaria. Tanked it over the transfagarasan (twice) and transalpina (thrice). Maybe the extra weight of the GS doesn't help? Or the rider? Hahahaha..only reason didn't replace the rear with another 01 was that not available in Bulgaria at that time. Keep up the good work. Will you get another GS once insurance pays? Or maybe a 1290?
+Michael Bell Thanks Michael, yeah I do think the GS impacted negatively on the performance of the Roadtec's. it's a big old bike with a lot of low down grunt, plus I'm another 20 stone so that's a lot of stress on the tyre. Apparently they do a heavy weight version but Metzeler were adamant the GS doesn't need it?
Anyway, I loved the tyre for 75% of its life, and it is fantastic in the wet. But the Dunlop Roadsmart 3's I used straight after on the next tour were superb throughout.
Yes I think I probably will get another GS, but I want to try the KTM 1290 Super Adventure, the Superduke GT, and maybe also the Multistrada Pikes Peak ❤️😉
The trade off with riding mountain passes is mountain weather. It can change very fast too.
I'm sure you've just earned yourself some more bookings with that series Bruce. Deservedly so, the Picos offers some of the best strips of tarmac on the planet. Between yourself and RICHYVIDA I feel I've been to N Spain alot this year.
I'm guessing the GS will be replaced with another. But I did hear you say; on ya live feed perhaps that you'd like a bike with a bit more performance.
Apart from the KTMs that you mentioned have you tried a Multistrada. They're pretty nippy for an adventure.

+Bonny Trippler Thanks Bonny, yep compared to most other places in Europe, northern Spain is pretty traffic free once you get up in the mountains. Any traffic that is there, you can easily pass. 👍

It’s a gamble bud, it can rain in the Pico’s at pretty much any time of the year - but the roads and scenery are worth it.
I’m there from May 26th for a weeks tour with ChickenStrips. Have a treat time 👍

I like this series of vids but i usually turn the sound right down as i cant stand your BMW bikes exhaust sound for more than a few minutes as its way to loud. Would rather listen to some good music with your commentary overlaid on your vids. When in Spain put some spanish music on not that constant gearchange noise. Just my opinion of course.
