Is the Insta360 Ace Pro Worth It?

- 5th episode in the "Deliverance Ride" series see me take on the Cherohala Skyway, ride down into Georgia to sample the famous "Two Wheels" of Suches, then try out the stats function of the insta360 Ace Pro. I give my thoughts so far on this rival to the GoPro, is it a worthy competitor?

I love to see the local cafés and motels en route. It gives you a feel of America off the beaten tracks. Also love the data showing in the forward facing camera

Looking ahead is a key part of riding and I find like you sometimes you have to look just in front of the bike so what I have learned is to turn my head in the direction I want to go and if I need to look down just move my eyes. When satisfied with the detailed look, it is a lot easier to lift my eyes if my head is ready pointing in the right direction, give it a try.
Another cracking vid Bruce. With regard the data on screen, definitely all at once seems a bit much. Maybe just the gps OR the speed and distance?
This is such a compelling series, and I personally didn't expect it to be.
In terms of footage, and also owning a GoPro 11, I prefer the look of the GoPro footage, but it isn't enough to counter the utter bullshittery of their platform and how it lets you down so consistently (and of course it's inconsistent at how when it'll let you down, although the overheating thing is resolved by having an external power source and no battery....which is an arse if you've got it on your lid).
I reckon the next gen of the Ace will be phenomenal, it's low light stuff is already baller...but it depends how the law suit goes I guess.
Another great video Bruce. Can't understand why you're so loyal to Gopros when they have given you so many problems over the years. I've used Osmo Actions for ages and have never had a failure.
Aye well that’s changing. The Ace Pro’s have been faultless up until the last month or so, now I’ve had a few audio failures but this is down to heavy rain.
I’ve now bought the Action 4 so will be testing that out over the next few months too 👍
I rode my bike from Mexico to Usa in 2022! then from Colorado i went to Cinccinati and then south to Florida and came back to MExico by the Golf of Mexico! Amazing trip!!

I did know how good US roads were - mainly because that's where I lived the first 46 years of my life (in Australia now)!

I DID know this about American roads. As they are just like the roads near me! lol I live in a very rural area just west of Seattle and some of the roads are very much like Scotland. Twisty, naggery and trees and mountains EVERYWHERE. 👍

Great roads overthere , I was lucky to drive the tail of the dragon also this year. I like the USA roads . And also the people whom drive them. They're as nuts as I am. When I am able to do I will return and I hope I can enjoy more, by the way I like the series ;-)
-12db sounds about right. After initial experimentation, that's what I've been using for some time with my Tascam and my DJIs.

I made the switch from GoPro to the Ace Pro. I was so tired of all the audio issues with GoPro. How hard it was to change the bastard batteries on the GoPro with the Media Mod on. FYI, the new camera mount with locking mechanism solves all the issues you described with the old mount. Love it.

Really enjoying this series Bruce many thanks. I’m heading to the US in a couple of weeks, renting a Road Glide from EagleRider and doing a solo trip from Washington DC to Atlanta. I’ll be doing part of the Blue Ridge Parkway and Cherohala Skyway so it’s been great to travel with you and check it out in advance. Shame about the weather you experienced but well done for toughing it out🙂

The colours look slightly brighter on the insta camera but the stability and quality is much better on the GoPro…
nIce wee touch the over view,also the picture quality is first rate as is the sound quality !

Personally real world hands on is priceless for any big purchase as let’s face it good cameras are not cheap.
On a different note what a fantastic “Adventure” ..it has to be said you do take one for the clan with such a tedious job Bruce 🤣👏..

I honestly think the footage is way better than your usual gopro footage, sound is good as well,I use the phone link to check the framing of the shot when I'm happy I just disconnect phone and boom

Yeah remote control with gps overlay is a cool thing.
I don't use often though as the insta360 x3 has to be on all the time and it takes lots of charge add the remote connection is even more so. I use the instant on/off and the battery can stay for long time.
Yes, you can use a cable, but not always practical depending where placing the camera.
You don't feel the rucksack while riding, but feel it when taking it off :)
Insta for the win every time :-) If you get the "better" metal clips they have a locking switch which provides a lot more confidence and I've never had an issue. The plastic clips come supplied with the camera, but in the Accessories on the website there is a better one available.

Apparently the Ace pro will connect to your Cardo and record your voice and even group chats, have you tried that yet?
The data looks pretty cool but a gimmick really isn't it. good fun though :)
Thanks mate, aye it will record the Cardo audio but it’s via Bluetooth so the quality is mince sadly 👍

I share your sentiments regarding the go pro, My 1st one was the hero 4 which was good, then the 7 it all started to go down hill from there. I did a trip in October 15 European countries in 10 days, solo which I recorded on my hero 7 to discover on my return that the audio had failed about a 3rd of the way in. Not happy at all. I did a voice over but its not the same. It loses it spontaneity. That was the final straw for me so I sold both cameras.... I can share your sentiments re the work and time it takes to edit the videos. Most people would have no idea.
I was thinking about which camera to try next and the ace pro was on my short list but after watching the MF 10 reasons to buy a DJI osmo action 4 (what a mouth full, lol) I have now got one and am off to Espanol Pyrenees and France for 12 days so will try it out.
I also have an Insta 360 and a Dji mini 2 se drone which I really enjoy.
It's nice to see USA being documented which is refreshing. Keep up the good work Bruce.. ps you travel light :)

I’ve actually bought a DJI Osmo Action 4 now, but haven’t had time to try it out yet. I’m off on tour tomorrow for a week so may take it with me and give it a go 👍
How many more rides left in the "Deliverance Ride" series? Keep in mind all or most of the people in Appalachia came from "Great Britain" years ago, so Birds of a feather is the expression that comes to mind! After seeing you lost a friend (next video) I take it you're home now ? (since you said it happened near a "loch" ______.) Riding just isn't safe, even if other drivers are "watching out for motorcycles" many aren't riding like their lives depend on it. It's tragic that a life was lost but we need more track days so people can ride fast in a safer place and ride safe on our roads. I just watched a video where a car turned in to a driveway any cut off a bike, so slammed on the brakes and got rear-ended by a spider that was following close (in a group ride/event). Not sure of the out come but the one was motionless in the road and two others were in a flooded yard. They had life flight there so it wasn't anything they were walking away from. It's sad! I just want a DR650 or something like that to ride backroads (put around on) but don't know if I'll ever take the plunge. If I do I hope that I'm old enough to ride like I drove a truck with plenty of time to take action and be safe. I wish the families the best in a difficult time God Bless you all!

Hey, how do the Tiger heated grips compare to the BMW? I understand the BMW grips get up to the temperature of the sun, on the hottest setting - do the Tiger grips give you that kind of heat?
Also, I've seen several motovloggers who use the Insta360 in the same way as you, and it's not flopping over - even with the screen up. I wonder if the problem is the mount that you have it on.
It’s called Sahhchehs Suches you know how they say it in Scotland😂 great road on 60 and gap to get there. Blood Mountain is great too while you there. I agree, those reviews where people got gear a minute ago and give an “expert” review ticks me off. I like your approach way better. Cheers
A route planning comparison? Thats could become tough with Rever, Touchsmart, Detech, Calimoto, Riser, Gaia, Basecamp...etc. You have so many apps and planners its hard to keep track and as much as I like technology my mind would become numb. I went with Detech, cali is good for some things but for me overall Detech is the best.
They have to be able to plan on both phone and desktop, in order to qualify for my review - don’t actually narrows the field considerably 👍

Has insta got a special deal on for moto vloggers at the moment, TMF, off she goes, itchy boats, ollie and Lavi, all seemed to have switched to this platform 😂😂🤦♂️
I don’t know about the others, but insta360 contacted me a few months ago and asked if they could send some kit for me to try out.
I’m currently just using it as I do my GoPro’s to see how they are in general, then I’ll try a few other bits out before I do a full review vid.
So far I’m impressed. Zero reliability issues (other than heavy rain killed the audio adaptor the other week - but to be fair I hadn’t sealed it with silicon putty like I do with the GoPro’s)
