As soon as I get mine, you're all going to be flooded with footage from the Oregon Coast Range. I cannot wait, I might go straight to Brown's Camp just to flex on the gassies. I got crippled about 5 years ago and had to give up my dirt biking. Thanks to KingSong for bringing it back to me. I've been slowly building up my strength and skill - in order: Mten, V10F, V12, and I have the S20 preorder and I'm already selling my last, best dirt bike I own to fund another one. :-) Now that there's a ride I can get back out into the wilderness with, nostalgia can suck it and I need to convert the apex machine I had created into another one that I can actually use. Real coil over progressive rate multilink suspension? Insane ground clearance/approach angle, crazy torque, and unmatched wheel travel? YES PLEASE AND THANK YOU
Good job buddy, very informative and you adressed everything. Can't wait to try it out myself. Also, I love that this is the new official way to test for water resistance, we thank you for your sacrifice! o7
Thanks Jack! Explained a lot of questions that have come up recently. Look forward to see where you go from here please keep us posted on your progress on the s20.
I really appreciate your unbiased reviews. With the cost of an EUC about the same as a used motorcycle, many thanks for your straight forward technical assessments.
The waterproofing and cutouts were causing me to hesitate on getting this wheel. Thanks for going over these concerns. I feel more confident to proceed with purchasing this wheel. Thanks!
🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷🇧🇷👏🏻, Awesome video. After seeing your video, I am really interested in getting the S20. Currently I own 02 16s eucs. Bought them both at the same time down here in Brazil from some people in São Paulo b4 the eletricz ever existed.
I heard the pedals can be adjusted forward and back and has two height positions. Did you try these different positions and which rode best? Also, some riders found it hard getting to and keeping high speeds, did you experience this? Great review.
Thanks for the video, man. Cant wait to get mine. Just from having older KS wheels, i know most issues can be polished out via firmware updates, which is still crazy to me, haha. The only thing is that spring. Watch them FINALLY listen to the consumers during batch 2 or 3, and all us early adopters get punished (as usual, lmao)
Thank you it is great video. However, I wish you have included a brake test, like emergency brake at high speed. Would you mind considering such test in the future? Thank you.
Great video. How about the smart BMS features that communicate with the control board? Did they release a new version of a phone app that allows you to monitor battery cell health? What is gained by this feature as of now?
When you said it was explained to you, regarding "taking it easy on the 1st 3 meters" in order to protect the mosfets, can you tell us whether the person who explained to you was someone from Kingsong?
Is KS going to redesign the board to handle the full amount of current initially? If they don't that could be a bummer 😕. I don't think Gotway is going to have that issue with the Master and it's higher voltage, although we'll have to wait and see.
Thanks for the great review! A couple of questions... What is the size tire used on the S20, 20" x 3"? Rim width? Also, can you address if the app can change the rear light output colors so that only red is used? I feel that a blue light is not desirable as it may attract police attention. Rear brake/running lights can only be red legally and turn signals can be either red or yellow, never blue.
Hey Jack. If I want to flip the shock absorber around, so that the chamber sticks out inside the wheel well, instead of how it is now. will there still be enough clearance to ride the wheel on non-extreme terrain? i.e., big jumps and drops. I'm willing to give up some of the massive suspension clearance, so that the backside no longer has that thing sticking out like it does. I could use that area to hang extra luggage to go out on mountain trails !
@@GrimmRider Even better if KS does us a solid and provides what ever fix would make it possible to protect the thingy, and acts as a rack to hang stuff like camping gear! I actually wonder if that chamber even provides that much more performance advanrage or usefullness, to be worth sticking out back there like a giant knob, that's shouting "hey look at me! I'm a big suspension thingy!"
Hi Jack, very extensive review and I like how you addressed all the concerns. Question, in the first nine meters, can you lean into it at the start and count on being throttled or would it cut out? Also, when you say 100Km range, at what average speed were you riding? Thanks
@@mikeintampa250 they'd never let it cut out on purpose. It will have artificially limited acceleration but will always have the power to keep you upright. This is to limit blowing the FETs because at such a high voltage you're pushing A LOT of current.
@@mikeintampa250 it shouldn't cut out, just you will fall on your face. I'd imagine you could probably force a cut out easier. But from what I've heard it's not like that will be common.
Have you thought about rubberizing the metal under the lift handle when it comes off it gets dented up hitting those black loops above the shock and have you considered making a mini roll bar to go on the suspension to cover the reservoir of the shocks so it doesn’t get broken off which obviously hasn’t happened yet but it very well could
Great review. Very tempted by this wheel. I do have a question that about it usage, does the wheel do speed throttling at lower battery voltages? If so do you have a rough idea of how much and at which battery percentages?
I like that they've used a 750lb coil. Living in the US, I'm tired of products that are designed for the morbidly obese to the detriment of those of us who are on the lighter side. In the case of (non-smart) car airbags, it is actually dangerous for smaller people that the airbag explosives are designed for (I think) a 200lb person crashing without a seatbelt at 30mph. It means that smaller people can have their necks broken by the force of the inflation. It's like the obese have a lobby group, while small people do not.
How user-replaceable is the spring on the suspension? I'm about 120kg without gear and feel that I might be more comfortable with a heavier-duty spring.
Any details on the first 3m limitation? Will it stay on production model or be finetuned (dynamic limitation or something). Thank you for the great review!!
Aye, exactly. By the video I understand there will be a limitation for the voltage for the first 3m. If there have to be one, can it be tuned to increase voltage dynamically and not like on/off after 3m.
Awesome video bro! Looking forward to trying out the new firmware!! Any chance KS can address the sharp top edge of the batteries? Some riders have noticed that edge protruding and hurting some shins when running the pads lower
hey great video i had some questions is it possible to change to rear light to the traditional red light or is that not possible? and do you know if they are planning on doing something about the power Botton being a bending piece of plastic or if not that they at least would be implementing a rubber seal? thanks a lot keep up the good work :)
Great review Jack!! Best one so far. Do you know if KS will find a way to not have to throttle the power delivery at the onset of accereration by the time mass production starts? Also, is it possible to upgrade the suspension to something like a Fox DHX2? Let us know when you're in Toronto again.
For suspension KS give 240-75 and 240-76 sizes. DHX2 is available in 250-75, close but the extra width may not fit. To fix the acceleration from 0 they need bigger or more of the same mosfets to handle the current draw. In theory they can fix it before production but expect to have a delay if they do.
I haven't seen a range test where another wheel, including the Sherman Max, goes farther than the S22. So why would he say, "Unless you need massive range"? This seems to get the same range or better than any other wheel.
You have come a long way to get this s20 what is become👌🏻 i have a worry about the screws with red loctite! Can they use blue loctite,? i wish the tire chance that will already painfull enough to take the whole s20 appart to reach the motor🙏🏻
from the screws ive seen its seen blue, i havent seen red. but i also have no taken this wheel apart so i dont know about the process nor which loctite
I don't think the acceleration/brake lag is due to mosfets or voltage. The battery is still a 4P design with similar current limitations as other 21700 4P designs (RS, Nikola, etc). If they are using the same cells as in the previous wheels then the same current limits are there. Doesn't matter if it's called 3500w and the other 2500w. It's still limited by the pack. (IF the cells are the same. Maybe they run high current cells, then it's a different issue. But that hasn't been done yet.) I predicted this issue months ago and the heavy riders expecting a torque monster or a racing wheel, will be disappointed. (Unless they are super expensive high amp cells like 50S, VT6 etc)
I've spent ten year riding MTB tracks on a 'normal' unicycle (no motor!) It's really steep here. Just found out that you can get a motor! Would you suggest waiting and going straight for the S20 or get an S18?
How does the S20's top display look in daylight? Is it only locked to show a battery meter, or can you configure it to display other metrics while riding (such as speed)?
You helped design this one. It's hard to believe you don't have even a little bias despite your lack of sponsors
I would like to see a slope test, an aceleration test, velocity test, range test... Performance in one word
