I'm loving this series, as a 'Young Gun' myself, I appreciate seeing other designers my age getting recognition and help to grow further. Going to apply all these critiques and tips to my work and social presence too. Thanks! Keep it up everyone!
I still can't believe the amazing content you put to the table. I've watched about 100 videos from you guys and still watch every single one I can. Chris, not only do you teach design as a extremely professional career, but also teach about life in a very taoistic way, which I love. Thank you from the bottom of my heart Chris and theFutur team!
This is great! This allows designers to understand what goes in the mind of a person going through your work and profile, which is a great way to get inspired and improve our work! Keep it up, Chris & Emily!!
I find really interesting the fact that Emily is a young designer, sitting with Chris, doing a portfolio review. On the one hand, she provides a refreshing touch to the video. On the other hand, she's very professional when commenting. What an awesome Padawan you have there, Master Do.
I love this series! I do have a professor that makes us write out what we spent time on and how long we spent time on it. A “time log”. We’re told the clients want to see the what our time is going into.
Instagram now lets you archive posts, which removes the image from your profile while still saving the post in a separate spot for your own viewing. This helps clean up your page without losing posts of personal value. It will also allow you to place the post back on your page in its original chronological position
Glad I watched this! I'm about done with a portfolio website and was never taught the difference between prime marks and an actual apostrophe! I had a prime mark on my beginning page too
Just finished watching this season & season 2. I have to rate season 1 higher. It seemed...more human. There were vulnerabilities, discussions, the crew Aaron as in episode 7 chipping in. It didn't feel like Master Do standing in front of the class and teaching, but like Master Do sitting in a circle with the students and staff and everyone learning and contributing. Season 2 had the, "You are there and I am here" feel to it that is common in most TV competition shows, and which I think isn't always the best strategy. This season though was engaging. Could also be the fact that it had fewer contestants, so back and forth dialogues were easy? Anyway, from both seasons I have learnt a lot. Muchas Gracias to everyone who made both seasons possible and also to the contestants for allowing us to learn through and with them ♥️.
Love the show, great feedback on the portfolio. Scoring at the end is fine, if you actually do it, dropping a curve-ball of "scoring will come in the next episode" is cheating me as a viewer. again love the show, be proud of it, you don't need this type of hook to make people come back.
6:30 Can there also be a verbal identity like the tone and terminology the customer care uses? Also maybe something like mindset identity like "think different", although this one is conveyed visually...
Something I noticed is a lot of asmr people are artistic in some way. Then there are the ones that make "the weird part of RUclips", the weird part of RUclips if you know what I mean.
well, yeah. I didn't properly write what I meant, my bad. I kind of pictured something like rating and feedback for portfolios of viewers as a series, but not as in-depth as this series - like every video, different viewers would be rated and given feedback on their portfolio and maybe follow-up on changes.
Loooove your channel and content, so insightful! Also just for future reference (or should I say, futur* reference?? Ba dum tss) I'd think twice about taking their social media's follower count as your first impression. I know it's kind of inevitable because of Insta's layout but these days you can very easily buy followers or even likes from anyone and that'll basically direct a lot of numbers to our accounts without us having to do much, and regardless of our content. So if it's possible I'd say look at their feed/content first, and then move to the engagement etc and whether or not that would make sense. Just a thought! But awesome and helpful video guys, and I think all the designers mentioned have great talent too. Cheers!
One thing that is left out, although it would be too hard to calculate and too invasive (possibly)... but consider taking into account how much people are making on these jobs. Having a lot of work and a good following is awesome, but making money is just as important. (that is a big reason why we do it)
Hi, you’ve introduced the concept of stacking in this video. I’m into design, photography, and film. Should I focus on combining them into my work, or just focus on one area at a time? Thanks
Loving this series! I wish it was easier to find the next episode in "Up next" section but somehow it doesn't show up and I have to search it manually... Is it something you can control on RUclips?
yes, and that takes 2 more clicks with an unknown factor of wether the playlist appears easily under the playlist tab or not. So it's a good competition with the manual searching method. I sometimes see suggested videos embedded inside the video and thought this would be a solution, but I have no idea how easy/hard that is! Just pouring some feedback on ya :)
Hahahahah hahahahaha Chris is so funny on this one. His face expressions tell everything before he even says it. Love that. And the girl! Who is she? Where is she now? What a duet! I believe this series is over now? Chris, would you review UX/UI portfolios? I think I have just asked a lot of questions. AAAAAAH love this
Great episode! I’m curious, I’m the old gal in the room. So, back in the day, we called a logo, what you call a brand. But in this episode, you talk about seeing more of the personality and visual identity branding. Can you expound, or give a resource where I can read more? Thank you!
Thank you for the review. Could you recommend the way for representing design Portfolio to the creative agencies? If I want to talk with Art Director and discuss my portfolio and any opportunities to collaborate, how is it possible to communicate with the company and art/creative director?
HELLO CHRIS HELLLO team FUTURE, Thanks for this amazing inspiring video. I am a young gun myself, and ur content really inspire me a lot to keep movin forward. Just tuned in to these episodes. @ 4.39 I don't know if anyone else caught that? Is it done on purpose? It says The Body Cliniic and also The Body Clinic....I hope it is fixed already if it was a typo :-) Otherwise great work!
Hi chris, i just graduated from design school majoring in Product Design. As we lack of experience and our project would usually be set by our lecturers, how can we build a portfolio with amateur photography of our projects? Thank you! :)
I would definitely suggest keeping the other account though. Instagram's algorithms love old accounts. If something happens to your main, or you need it for your company, better have an aged one already.
cfowler....legit stuff. His content is best. I could care less about numbers on instagram at least in terms of when I look at peoples profile. It's all about the content.
Thanks Arun! And yes Sarah, you can search ‘emily Xie’ on most social media sites and 80-90% the first one is me :) Or @_emilyxie on instagram for your convenience.
I can't believe I just watched 46 mins of this when I have class in 3 hours. Chris do stealing my sleep
sorry. #sleepStealer

What I really liked about this video is that they thoroughly see their work instead of rushing!
This is great! This allows designers to understand what goes in the mind of a person going through your work and profile, which is a great way to get inspired and improve our work! Keep it up, Chris & Emily!!
At first I read your comment and was like okay... And then I was like 'Okay wait I know this person' 😂
I just kept looking at Emily!
she is very sweet. you will need to brush your teeth afterwards. ;)
Chris nit-picking at Emily doing normal things makes me feel like he'd rip me apart if I ever were to sit down with him lol
Maybe maybe. ;)
same xD
I find really interesting the fact that Emily is a young designer, sitting with Chris, doing a portfolio review. On the one hand, she provides a refreshing touch to the video. On the other hand, she's very professional when commenting. What an awesome Padawan you have there, Master Do.
She’s awesome.
This is the ep I’m most excited to see ever since seeing Sean’s work months ago, I’m also excited to see Spencer, Connor, Sharif, and Arun’s Work
watch and see how they grow.
Chris's critiques are so on point & Emily's reactions are priceless. Really enjoyed the video!
we make a good combo right?
Great episode. Funny throughout and informative. I'm learning a lot and enjoying the process.
I love this series! I do have a professor that makes us write out what we spent time on and how long we spent time on it. A “time log”. We’re told the clients want to see the what our time is going into.

thanks for the tip.
Emily is my new favorite 😏
I sense bias
Lol!
so, so biased.
War is going on with Young Guns
Keep making more videos about Youn guns... love it
ep. 3 is in the works.
Emily is me when Chris announced "...in the next Episode." 😂
Wow one young gun from India... great work Arun Sharma...
Thankyou :)
I learned more from this video than 5 other one I saw about making portfolios. Amazing content as always!
22:51 You don't have to delete your posts! You can archive them. :) love this channel!
Glad I watched this! I'm about done with a portfolio website and was never taught the difference between prime marks and an actual apostrophe! I had a prime mark on my beginning page too
Both are my fav design judges. Why I missed to watch those videos earlier 😣
31:17 Lol, Chris! You are so funny 😂
This is really inspiring. Kudos to Chris and Emily - Nice combo! looking forward to the next Episode(s)

lol! Seriously? Wait until the next episode?! This is good stuff Chris. Keep em coming.
Love the show, great feedback on the portfolio. Scoring at the end is fine, if you actually do it, dropping a curve-ball of "scoring will come in the next episode" is cheating me as a viewer. again love the show, be proud of it, you don't need this type of hook to make people come back.
it's called a cliff hanger and it's been used in film and television for decades. didn't realize it was a cheat.
Really great series, keep it up!
one of the best episode :)
I want to sign up for "Old Geezers" when you start it. Never to late to become a designer.
Design for geriatric. haha.
Came here to learn about portfolios. Did that while falling for Emily🤧🤧
6:30 Can there also be a verbal identity like the tone and terminology the customer care uses? Also maybe something like mindset identity like "think different", although this one is conveyed visually...
branding is more than the logo. it's the look/feel, voice/tone and the "why".
The cliffhanger at the end 😭 I'm already staying up at 2:30 am watching this when I have work tomorrow morning 😅
Peter is my favorite!!!!!
I love this episode:)
who is peter?
Peter Mckinnon☺😊
Like Emily so much~! Her smile is so pretty and kind!
May i have a chance to know her facebook or any social account?
check the notes.
I think Emily is Chris's daughter or something. Their chemistry is on another level
Thank you for making this series thank u sir 🙏🏻
wow Chris, dont make fun of Emily's voice! she has a very ASMR-y voice :P
impylse yea Chris!
impylse what kind of voice is that?
relaxing/soothing
ASMR fan here... hi5 :D
Something I noticed is a lot of asmr people are artistic in some way. Then there are the ones that make "the weird part of RUclips", the weird part of RUclips if you know what I mean.
You did not throw a cliffhanger at me rn...
Great series, though ☆
I love this, it makes me improve my work n look at it in a different way now, thank you, do more plz😍😍👏💪
count on it Mai.
Really informal video guys, would be cool if you did something similar to this for a few viewers.
aren't we do doing it with some of our viewers already in this video?
well, yeah. I didn't properly write what I meant, my bad.
I kind of pictured something like rating and feedback for portfolios of viewers as a series, but not as in-depth as this series - like every video, different viewers would be rated and given feedback on their portfolio and maybe follow-up on changes.
Amazing so much gain here from this video God bless you sir.
Really appreciate the content you put out! Super helpful, thanks a lot! ♥︎
43:48 i loved the moment.. :)
editor overwrote some cam moments of her, with info slides.
great content,loved it

boy i need to change every think
awkward moment when Emily is so busy to air drumming when Chris want this show keep rolling :D
Alabazter Al LOL
11:45 not everyone is insta famous! So, if you work isn't getting much/consistent appreciation on socials, should you not link to it at all?
It’s not going to help you grow. Give value.
(23:15) "Shutterfly" hahaha! Emilys reaction was hilarious, and also fun to see Chris sweat a little ;)
I didn’t swear.
How do you approach telling your story with positioning yourself as a specialist? Do you have more videos on that in depth?
Great video ;)
Also, I had to google what Shutterfly is lol
That part had me cracking up
Salman Khan ok. Ok. Now you guys are just making fun of the old man.
One thing that is left out, although it would be too hard to calculate and too invasive (possibly)... but consider taking into account how much people are making on these jobs. Having a lot of work and a good following is awesome, but making money is just as important. (that is a big reason why we do it)
from a coaching point of view, that's not important to us. money is not a measure of quality of work.
Love this series.
glad to hear.
I'm 20 minutes in so idk yet, but I would like to see you guys checking the website responsiveness on phones and for instance their SoMe tags
chris...would you tell me what brand are your glasses... please
It's very distracting when you nit-pick people's normal behaviour. Otherwise it was a really great episode! Can't wait to see more
it's what I do. I guess you find me annoying.
How do you submit your work for the next review?
this series is only available for these 5 young guns.
The Futur ok
Amazing content! Awesome channel. glad I clicked :)
Yay. Welcome.
Hi, you’ve introduced the concept of stacking in this video. I’m into design, photography, and film. Should I focus on combining them into my work, or just focus on one area at a time? Thanks
stack as many as possible into one elegant career.
Loving this series! I wish it was easier to find the next episode in "Up next" section but somehow it doesn't show up and I have to search it manually... Is it something you can control on RUclips?
you can just watch the young guns playlist.
yes, and that takes 2 more clicks with an unknown factor of wether the playlist appears easily under the playlist tab or not. So it's a good competition with the manual searching method. I sometimes see suggested videos embedded inside the video and thought this would be a solution, but I have no idea how easy/hard that is! Just pouring some feedback on ya :)

I think I have just asked a lot of questions.
AAAAAAH love this
I don’t review portfolios at the moment.
@@thefutur You have answered all my comments since forever. I really appreciate you Chris! Thanks you!
this is great but i wish yall would sync the screen recordings
syncing? is it out of sync?
The Futur yes 😥
@@thefutur whenever the screen recording gets on, we dont see what you are talking about until after a few seconds.

23:20 was a good insight on how funny chris is xD
Loved the video! What's the process to apply for being featured in this series? :D

i'm at: @thechrisdo on twitter, but also check out the Futur FB page.
Great episode! I’m curious, I’m the old gal in the room. So, back in the day, we called a logo, what you call a brand. But in this episode, you talk about seeing more of the personality and visual identity branding. Can you expound, or give a resource where I can read more? Thank you!
Cheri Turner watch our episode on branding and identity design.
Sharif El Komi thanks so much. I will definitely watch that video.
Just followed Chris, Emily, and The Futur on IG 😊
Yay 😀
Any tips on how I can show my personality through my website? Without integrating social platforms like - Twitter & Insta
I used to work at Shutterfly so it was so funny to hear it mentioned in this video.
it's still around right? or am i just too old?
Thank you for the review. Could you recommend the way for representing design Portfolio to the creative agencies? If I want to talk with Art Director and discuss my portfolio and any opportunities to collaborate, how is it possible to communicate with the company and art/creative director?
Thanks for this video man
Nice video I would like to see more like this video
new episode drops next week.

Hi chris, i just graduated from design school majoring in Product Design. As we lack of experience and our project would usually be set by our lecturers, how can we build a portfolio with amateur photography of our projects? Thank you! :)
great video - as always. i think the song in the outro was too loud. make sure that the audio track is consistent. :-)
What is Young Guns series? And how to get my portfolio reviewed?
Yes, Chris, no one uses shutter fly lol 😆
The typeface on the titles in this video is gorgeous. What is it?
David Martins Futura Bold.
You guys are the coolest. Cheers!
