The man was sitting by the roadside, head down, crying. Through his gestures, we understood he was asking for something to eat. However, we tried to understand the entire situation better. His name is Md. Mizanur Rahman, and his village home is in Tongibari, Munshiganj. He came to Dhaka in search of work about 3-4 days ago. But, having failed to find any work, he sat by the roadside, overwhelmed with despair. Someone had even taken away the few winter clothes and blankets he had with him. He didn’t even have the fare to return home.
Eventually, we arranged for him to go back home. Along the way, we learned more about him. He has a son and a daughter, but it seemed like he had no one left by his side. Once, he was heavily addicted to drugs, which ultimately led to his wife leaving and starting a life elsewhere. The remorse and despair were clearly visible on his face.
Finally, we bought him a bus ticket and helped him board a bus heading to his village. We hope that, with everyone’s support, he will be able to leave behind the mistakes of his past and rebuild his life anew.
রাস্তার পাশে এই লোকটি মাথা নিচু করে কান্নাকাটি করছিল।হাতের ইশারায় কিছু খাওয়ার জন্য চাচ্ছিল তা আমরা বুঝেছিলাম।কিন্তু পুরো বিষয়টি আমরা ভালো করে বোঝার চেষ্টা করি।ওনার নাম মো:মিজানুর রহমান।গ্রামের বাড়ি মুন্সিগঞ্জের টংগিবাড়িতে।ঢাকায় এসেছেন একটা কাজের খোঁজে,তা ও প্রায় ৩ ৪ দিন আগে।কিন্তু কোনো কাজ না পাওয়ায় হতাশ হয়ে রাস্তার পাশে বসে কান্নাকাটি করছিল।সাথে থাকা কিছু শীতের কাপড় ও কম্বল ও কেউ হয়তো নিয়ে গিয়েছে।বাড়ি ফেরার ভাড়াটাও নেই।অত:পর আমরাই তাকে বাড়িতে যাওয়ার ব্যাবস্থা করে দেই।পথিমধ্যে আরো জানতে জানতে পারি তার একটি ছেলে ও মেয়ে রয়েছে।কিন্তু সব থেকেও আজ যেন তার কেউ নেই। তিনি একসময় মানকদ্রব্যের প্রতি প্রচুর ছিলেন।তারই ফলে আজ তার স্ত্রী ও অন্য স্থানে সংসার করছে।তার চোখে মুখে গ্লানির ছাপ আমরা স্পষ্ট দেখতে পাচ্ছিলাম।যাইহোক অবশেষে তার গ্রামে যাওয়ার উদ্দেশ্যে একটি টিকেট কেটে তাকে বাসে ঊঠিয়ে দেই।আশা করি অতীতের সব নিকৃষ্ট কাজ ভুলে গিয়ে,সবার সহযোগিতায় তিনি আবার নতুন করে জীবন সাজাতে পারবে
