- Tyla Laura Seethal (born 30 January 2002), known mononymously as Tyla, is a South African singer and songwriter. Born and raised in Johannesburg, she signed with Epic Records in 2021 following the domestic success of her 2019 debut single, "Getting Late" (featuring Kooldrink).
Tyla rose to international fame with the release of her 2023 single Water, which entered the top ten in sixteen countries including the United Kingdom and United States. "Water" was the first song by a South African soloist to enter the US Billboard Hot 100 in 55 years and was awarded the inaugural Grammy Award for Best African Music Performance in 2024. The single preceded her self-titled debut album (2024), which was released to critical acclaim and moderate commercial success, entering the top 25 in six countries including the United States.

Brother i love this girl so much i pray for her but honestly i agree with you she needs to connect more with her followers fans etc,i believe that she can be one of the biggest artists of the Gen z but dodging tuff questions wont get you anywhere .
Nobody (especially who is south african) wants tyla to fail its why I made this video. I want her to connect more to show us a much deeper side beyond the catchy pop tunes and the dance moves. But many South africans are in denial about this reality which will lead to her Downfall if left unchecked 😔

I nust think that tyla has been growing so fast in like a year, shes not asapting to the pace! She needs to expand her music for people to discover a new side of her. If she wants to keep the " im a petite exotic looking girl that knows how to shake my booty", people will get tired of it. You cannot base your success of your face , body and signature dance move : bacardi. She has to do something if she wants to stay relevant especially in the USA.

She’s amazing, however, I had some similar thoughts even in regards to her tour, it got moved to next year in March, she can fall out by then, because she just released her album, that will be dying out on TikTok soon. I love her songs and want her to stay relevant but if she ain’t releasing music and she’s not connecting with her audiences then people will forget or cancel her for not talking about the real issues xx
Her voice is fire, her dancing is fire her looks are fire, she could get to Beyoncé level but she needs to be real too xx

This is exactly everyone's opinion. No one wants tyla fail but some SA and tygers keep saying we're crying over her success.

People who have been connected with how the industry works can literally see what epic record is about to do.
Within the space of six months,an artist....an upcoming Global artist has four award already over one global debut song.
Dont get me wrong,yes tyla have released four to five songs in south Africa before the America record label discovered her but to billions of people outside SA she just started in 2023.
Because tyla is south african many feel the need to protect her and not criticize her which is beautiful in and of itself, it's good to see people from sa standing by tyla and wishing her a long successful career, but my video is more of a caution at what can happen when we are enamored by beauty and tribalism. Tyla has only release 1 album as far as I know that has blown up and she's wining awards left right and center, this is good, but if she fails to cultivate what has essentially been handed to her on a silver platter and connect with people on a deeper level she will be here today and gone tomorrow, she won't be the first or the last to be big internationally and forgotten a year or 2 later, I hope this does not happen to her

Rihanna Britney Spears and Katy Perry put out generic pop songs for the first 5-10 years of their careers. Rihanna only started writing on her last album. You’re not a ‘one trick pony’ as long as the hit songs keep coming. She’s only got one album. People forget tha janet Jackson debut album and Rihanna 1st too albums were pretty generic too. I’m expecting Tyla’s 2nd album to be an improvement on the first effort.

Exactly I agree.Honestly excuse me if you don’t believe in zodiac signs, but if you know a Aquarius, especially a woman, they have this image of being perfect and emotionally balanced that they hold on so tight to and it gives me a sense of un-genuineness. If you ask me wanting to portray as so balanced, is very unbalanced. I’m a Leo and they are the complete opposite example, Whitney Houston, Jennifer Lawrence or Madonna.
