  • Santa's "Keeper of The Keys" Mr. Jingeling , was an Iconic figure in Cleveland Television most years between 1956-1986. He was based at Halles Department Store, Then Higbees when Halles Closed its doors. He appeared on WEWS-TV 5 for many years, then made the rounds of other Cleveland stations into the 1980's. Jingeling was played on TV by Max Ellis from 1956-64, then Earl Keyes of WEWS from 1965-until his passing in 2000, long after his sonnection with the department stores faded.. A younger man has continued to play Mr. Jingeling in personal appearances even today.
This is a string of TV episodes that I believe aired on WOIO-19 Cleveland in 1986, when Mr. Jingeling (Keyes) aired Monday, Wednesday and Friday from 5:55-6PM..
Bonus at the end:A late 1960's Captain Penny/Jungle Larry segment on WEWS' Captain Penny Comedy Clubhouse

I remember his programming so very well. Even as a young adult I would watch his programs when returning home from work, I took my niece to Halle's to Christmas Shop because of him. I miss Halle's. they had beautiful Christmas displays.

@@24sevmedia26 Mr Jingeling was a very nice man. I remember going to higbee's and having him greet me at the top of the steps on the platform little mini north pole house that was on top and sitting in santa's lap having santa ask me what I wanted for christmas. I remember in 1985 at 3 years old that I wanted a nintendo and a pair of jordan's,and I told my mom I told santa klaus and mr jingeling that, and I got those things and a bunch of games and a nes advantage joystick I was a happy kid that christmas opening up those gifts on christmas day night. My mom made me wait and I couldn't stand waiting but I played that nintendo all night until the sun came up the next day,but sliding down that slide into all those cotton snowballs in the little pit they had to cushion your fall was fun. It put a smile on my face for the 2 years I went to go see Mr Jingeling at the Higbee's downtown. Good times.

It took me years to respect him as a Cleveland Icon and NOT just dismiss him as Cleveland's answer to Santa.
