Grew up listening to my dad play Scott Joplin on our piano. I loved it so much, I practiced and learned to play it myself. I still play ragtime 30 years later. It has a very special place in my heart. It is American classical music.
After the apocalypse, this will be one of the artifacts that will rebuild civilization.
Best comment ever!
@guktron: I would say so.
@@mr.x8259 hahaha
We can only hope.
"Hey, civilization has disappeared overnight
...but at least we have this CD of Scott Joplin"
the fact that scott joplin's community is so peaceful makes me feel more joyous.
Scott Joplin was definitely a musical genius...
I never tire of listening to Scott Joplin's music......It makes me happy!!!
Son, are you on drugs?
You can't be sad when listening Scott Joplin!
Fact: You can't be sad when listening Scott Joplin!
Absolutely beautiful pieces. Joplin is so incredible!
Absolutely beautiful piano playing.... Thank you Scott Joplin for your amazing songs! People will be enjoying them for many generations to come.
Thanks a lot from Korea. Your uploading makes me listen classic and jazz. I feel like my world is widened!!
Like Joplin once said: "..I'm dead twenty-five years, people are going to recognize me" .....
well they do still 97 years later
It wasn't until The Sting (1974) that his music was really revived and widely recognized. If nothing else, we all everything to that movie (and the late Marvin Hamlisch) for this accomplishment. But there is so much more to like about the movie.
16Lizards - Well, let’s not forget that Joshua Rifkin’s recording “Scott Joplin: Piano Rags” (Nonesuch Records) was released in 1970 , several years before “The Sting” . It sold 100,000 copies the first year and eventually sold a million copies. So I would say that's actually the start of the revival , but not to discount the popularity of Hamlisch's arrangements for the score of "The Sting" , which is a great film.
Not true, his Maple Leaf Rag (considered the archetype of rag) was very "successful" even providing "some" financial support for the rest of his life. He premiered it at the 1893 Chicago World Fair and consequently "rag" became a national rage. Then he fell into oblivion not to be recognized again until long after his 1917 death with the movie The Sting and a posthumously awarded Academy Award, and in 1976 a Pulitzer Prize. (Little good it did by then!) But tragically he never knew fame and fortune and died from syphilis caused dementia at 49 in a nut house! Black prejudice and poverty forced him to live a meager life mostly as "the piano player" in whore houses and saloons, as a piano teacher and traveling musician. He wanted to become a true classical composer as inspired by his old German teacher; Julius Weiss. He wrote one opera (stunning!) that wasn't fully produced in his lifetime. Imagine what might have poured from his pen had he had a benefactor and lived longer!
+ Mike - He wrote Treemonisha as his second opera. The first opera was lost when he was evicted from his accommodation. Some of his rags were well-known throughout the 20th Century, and were performed by famous artistes, such as 'Jelly Roll' Morton with Maple Leaf Rag. And a number of popular piano rolls exist, some of which were 'recorded' by Joplin towards the end of his life. He certainly deserved much more recognition during his lifetime, but he was not altogether forgotten after his death.
About the money he earned with Maple Leaf Rag, in fact, during the first year, he only got the equivalent of $115 , not very much indeed.
It only after years that he earned more, but then he decided to compose Treemonisha, and non commercial music, that proved it was his will.
Then he sent money to Julius Weiss, who became old and poor.
Then about The Sting, yes , a pleasant movie .. but the award wasn't at all for Scott Joplin. During the ceremony Scott Joplin wasn't honoured. And the "composer"( Burt Bacharach) didn"t tell a word about his tribute to Joplin.
So, it was dishonest and a rubber.
Then Joplin's music cannot be called brothel's music. Would you play Beethoven's opus 111 in a brothel won't make it a brothel's muisc.
I love it! This music will always remind me of "The Sting" and riding on carousels as a child and as an adult.
Simply splendid! Can't stop hearing since I knew it , some 2 years ago! I Since then, I haven't put any other thing on! Only Scott Joplin! It's got a childish charm, a happy feeling (sometimes hidden, other times open), an it, an incredible appeal! Sometimes I go along dancing...
Lovely! Thank you! Xxx
Thank you so much for putting this together. Often, I go to our piano and play some of these songs. I foul them up sometimes, but it gets a little more coherent over time. It is with sincere gratitude that I play, listen, and think of simpler times, when we seemed to get along a little better. I hope we can return to some semblance of unity and understanding.
Thanks again. It is a joy.
this is more than perfect
Thank you so very much for this collection Daniel. I'm reading "Joplin's Ghost" by Tananarive Due and at the point in his life when he had fallen without a penny had returned to St. Louis and just walked out of the Rosebud to go home or find home. At that point I had to stop and listen. Like so many of our greatest artists, he died so tragically, now to be honored among the great of all times. I appreciate this collection being ready for my ears at this moment. THANKS!
Some of the best music to enjoy a good pipe smoke, a study for exams/tests, or just to pass the time and daydream. Thanks for the upload!!
What a treasure, all collected in one package and played by one of the best interpreters of Joplin's work. Thank you more than I can say, Daniel!
God dammit. Scott Joplin is one of my favourite. Ragtimes ... are so good. A big thanks for this awesoe upload
Absolutely wonderful piano music which will soothe receptive souls for a very long time to come! Thank you very much for uploading. Warm greetings from Bogor, Indonesia!
I'm trying to picture what the human beings look like who hit the dislike button on this.

Splendid performance of great music. Top marks.
Muito bom! Depois de muito procurar, finalmente encontrei essas pérolas da música.
This music is so clean and graceful. My grandmothers used to play some of it on the pianos and hum it in their kitchens.
I like these too an easy-going pace and wide open too spaces wonderful
I thrink you've brought together a truly fabulous collection of a much revered composer. Thanks!
wow gracias.. el mejor compositor norteamericano..gracias.
A wonderful way to enjoy a sunny Saturday afternoon here in Southern California. The Joplin revival started by Joshua Rifkin is going strong. Thank you for uploading this CD. One down, four to go.
Probably this is a remastered CD of the original vinyl records....Scott Joplin - His Complete Works - Label: Nonesuch Records (1974)
I had a vinyl copy of Zimmerman playing a solo piano Treemonisha. His "Real Slow Drag" is still my favorite version.
Richard Zimmerman has always done the best interpretation of Scott Joplins tunes just the right speed I find that a lot of people try to speed these tunes up way to much
But if you listen to actual Scott Joplin recorded rolls he plays as written at the blistering, as notated, 120. One has to assume that is the speed he wanted.
Anne Hier
"not too fast" as noted on some of his written music
Dustin McGrath He is one of my favourite performers of Joplin. Have to love the embellishments he includes as well; they fit perfectly with the form of Joplin's pieces, since quite often they are ideas imported from other rags to suit so feel quite natural,
Tons of thanks to our dear Scott, it's wonderful ! :D
(and thanks to you too of course)
.
Mary Stuart To the best. Thank you.
Love it... turns my day less blue. Thanx for uplading
Great work, thanks for sharing!

Happy New Year! Thank you Daniel for adding these Scott Joplin piano pieces to RUclips! I could listen to these for hours!!!
im going to buy this soon. absolutely!!
Thanks for uploading this, Daniel !!
THANK YOU FOR POSTING THIS OH MY GOODNESS
4:37 is basically the only reason I've listened to this particular track 1,000 times!
Love the piano music
the great crush collision march was my ringtone and it hit me with anxiety every time my phone rang lol
The god father of American music.
What a beautiful recording of Joplin's music you have shared Daniel! THAN YOU SO MUCH! ~ bear
Not a recording. Joplin doesn't have any recordings. This is likely a piano roll or someone else playing.
Shaymoteymon As stated in the publication details this is a recording of Richard Zimmerman playing Scott Joplin's music.
So it is a recording and it is Joplin's music. Absolutely nothing wrong with what Barry Schaffner wrote here.
I know it was Richard Zimmerman! Thank you!
its.........GREAT!
Out of sight.
Love to listen to Joplin's work as I am doing my own. His melodies are unbeatable! Thanks for uploading.
Scott won the piano contest
cool play
Sweet: 88,888 views. Pretty happy about that.

Rendy Louis, check the description..
Love Joplin and his contemporaries. My only complain about this collection is the lack of air between the rags - hard to tell what's what without constant reference to the timings.
I kimd of like that, it keeps the flow of the music well.
Fine for you, but I like beginnings and endings. I have choices, so I won't some back to this.
Thanks for uploading "The Complete Works" Daniel. If you could also upload "Piano Rags" the one played by Joshua Rifkin that would be fantastic.
No acess to this one.

Composer is Scott, but songs were replayed by Richard Zimmerman.
CD2/5 is uploaded now. watch?v=Ks2OnCIhBts
Audio is crap for such a respected artist's CD but the playing is great!

Hey can you guys give me the list of the songs in this video ??
Such a great, respectful performance. These folks playing way above tempo with gaudy scales all over bother me. This guy played the music.
Oh just the fact one person disliked it. :)
7 people are haters
+Caleb Hu Up to 13 now. You Tube is full of trolls.
Harry Andruschak IKR

Awesome music!
Is the hissing noise also present on the real CDs?
You know why I don't add impromptu embellishments to Beethoven or Mozart?
BECAUSE THEY'RE BEETHOVEN AND MOZART! Same holds true with Joplin.
Play it as written! You go off the rails and sloppily, I might add.
sounds like the 2nd track gets cut off
Video 2 is gone

WHAA NO THE ENTERTAINER
CD #2 THIS IS #1 (This Is Part Of a 5 disk Set)
Hi, is this record original play by Scott or other pianist?
replayed by Richard Zimmerman
Umm...huh? What brought that on?
I'm missing something this is not his complete works by a stretch.
I am an expert on the Ragtime music of Scott Joplin, without question, and yes, I hit the dislike button above. Here's why:
When the next song starts OVER the ending of the previous song, that's just wrong. And with the others, there is no appreciation of the last, crafted Scott Joplin rag,--- time to appreciate what you've just listened to, because the next tune will start INSTANTLY, thereafter.
Each and every one of Scott Joplin's masterpieces deserve to be held alone, for a few breaths, a few seconds, Like the taste of a vintage wine. Before sampling the next one.
No one can appreciate "Swansea", when it's instantly and without pause, "The Entertainer". The two are worlds apart in empathy, style, meaning, and yet the two songs, exclusively, are brilliant and gems, putting together any two or more of Joplin's compositions are a train wreck (the Great Collision March, 1896).
True Scott Joplin connoisseurs are the ones marking this video/audio with a "Thumbs Down". ....
Simply because of the fact that the beautiful music of our favorite American composer is all pushed together, like sausage coming out of a grinder.
Point well taken. What was the rush? I probably will not go on to the remaining volumes for the reason you cite (and for my own separate comment). Thanks for taking the bull by the horns!
Great expressionism on The Maple Leaf Rag! However, there are occasional accuracy errors to original sheet music. Not sure if this is intentional improv or a sight reading mistake?
Not all people appreciate music like us :) make them eat a piano too, Jk,Jk.
Fifteen people need to give me a like.
Did you have to ruin a beautiful song with a commercial?
Use AD-Block lol, I didin't put in any commercials.
@@danielt.9611 Thank you but I have a question about that. Isn't You Tube suppose to get your permission to put ads on your videos? I certainly would "not" give them my permission.
@@paulgoldstar If I refuse the adds, they will block my video worldwide. I do not own the songs, however royalties have approved the uploads, so videos are still up, at a cost with occasional add popping up if you're not using ad-blocking add-ons.
Hope this clears things out.
@@danielt.9611 I see what you mean and it does clear things up. Thank you for telling me.
Excécrable interprétation... Rigide et glacée, aucun swing sous-jaçent... Scott Joplin méritait mieux .
Its a disrespect to the author when is added awkward little music variations
The advertising, mainly the yoga ones, sucks.
Adblock Plus, uBlock Origin pretty good addons.
this is a very low quality playing.
I need to get a piano.
