Even if you cannot explain it or discern an exact source, this sort of near-Lovecraftian feeling of aberrant dread instills a sense of feel unlike those we are so often used to. The Uncanny Valley extends not just other beings, and this video exemplifies that excellently.

Calvin, PLEASE READ so theres a resource pack called midnight lurker HD, made by the same person who made the midnight lurker, and it makes it THAT much more scary. it is worth getting but i think sending links get my comments deleted so just find it on curseforge Also, you NEED to update your mods, specifically the Man from the Fog and the Knocker. the Man from the Fog's latest 1.20.1 updates should fix a lot of things and also make him scarier and more of a threat, though I don't want to spoil how; and the knocker updates are just plain terrifying. like he looked scary before but now he will cause your heart to skip a couple of beats. and also he got some new mechanics, none of which are bad and they just improve on things (for example, he now BRIDGES across water, instead of drowning himself). heres some info you might want: the "god" figure you see in the sky is from In Your World, which is the same mod that adds the red, tunnel-faced guy that jumpscared you behind a tree before. his name is actually "Hijitus". To counter the midnight lurker, you can hit him, and he will be stunned for a second, and then start chasing you again, it is possible to kill him but he will probably go away before that. and by the way, if you want to get rid of mods that reset your day count, the two mods that I know do that are: In Your World and the Horror Elements mod. also that mod that turns ores into little monsters - i feel like that's going to get annoying really fast, both for you and the audience (it already is for me). and the sanity mod was really cool, idk why people disliked it.

It would also then make sense that the black figure who teleported you away from the faceless villager figures told you to don't touch "the block." I assume so because the text was in black. But the thing is, the first time you touched it, there were 2 light, but the other village, the entire floor was lights. So I think it means every different block in different villages have different halls essentially.

I am a huge fan of the slow burn horror series. I did like the dweller series but it became less scary and more of annoying especially with the load noise. I do like this approach to minecraft horror, especially with the fog and the chase scene was soo fun to watch. Cant wait to see more of this keep it up man

The way the water looked and the thunderstorm and your voice having echo in the cave and there being no mobs was perfect almost like you were never playing a game and just a person in an empty world it has a very strong uneasy feeling

19:05 Render distance is not the same as simulation distance, unless both are high then you dont have to worry about render distance making your stuff despawn since thats tied to simulation (mobs, items, redstone, etc)

calvin talking about nothing being there reminds me of this finnish youtube channel that did an experiment, they told people that they would be going to a horror house, like which you walk through, it was pitch black and they had to walk through it, but there was nothing or no one 😭😭😭 but just them thinking they were gonna get scared scared them enough
this is how minecraft horror mods should be, not spamming loud sounds with skinny goofy flailing monsters, just playing mind games with you until it eventually does scare you...even if its not a jumpscare
