- This Minecraft ARG went long unnoticed due to it not appearing much like other ARGs and instead seeming more like an unsuccessful SMP. However, at a closer look, we can see that there seems to be a player who is not meant to be on the SMP, and when members go missing, it becomes increasingly apparent that something is not what it should be.
This video is my love letter to the Minecraft SMPs that raised me (Hermitcraft) as well as a fun exploration of what an ARG that isn’t on an old version of the game would look like. Also if you’re actually reading this comment below “dude I fully thought it was gonna be Ryan” just to mess with people LMAO. I liked the vid. Nice breath of fresh air from other Minecraft "ARGs". Definitely one of your better works. I like that it ditches the cringy paranormal/haunted video game, shadow organization stuff, in favor of a more grounded mystery. Would definitely wanna see more stuff like this, see how far you can go or how much you can innovate in the Minecraft ARG/Unfiction scene.

you could tell it was Barry from the start because he goes over to Mason, while not holding anything, and breaks the blocks under him meaning he could see mason from the beginning.
i think that makes the story telling seem way more well done, as well as fit nicely into a video format of this kind, with the rest of the content to get through, i completely looked over it the first time

And with leahs abduction video and the discord messages, at the beggining you see leah looking in her chests. The video probably happened right after those messages and barry used that as an oppurtunity to get leah because he knew where she would be, looking in the chests for the iron and diamonds he said he would put in there

The minecraft "ARGs" have all been around 2009 or 2011 because that was when minecraft was "in early development" and "it was scary"
That format has been so overused its not even scary anymore its just boring
I like it when people innovate on an "Idea" to make it more MODERN, its more interesting that way

Eh, I can't see it. Don't get me wrong, it can be done, but i find part of the appeal is uncovering something long buried, which you can't really do with modern versions, and, in all honesty, there isn't much you can do in modern minecraft that you can't do in either development versions or a sufficiently modded modern version of minecraft to play and feel like beta/alpha from a storytelling perspective, so why go with a modern version of minecraft when Alpha and Beta are better suited for horror, beyond nostalgia and the allure of uncovering something long buried. Back then, the player was far weaker then now. You couldn't sprint, there were no enchants, and there aren't any beds to sleep the night away, which is really inconvenient when everything is much darker then modern, so early game you have to hide in a hole until you light up and wall off an area. Because the player is so much more limited, it lends to facilitating spooky stories much better.

@@sparkj0y that seems to be just completely random, we know barry can see other players due to the first video, so I assume it was just an error on the creators part, maybe they were thinking "oh this will be just another scary arg with spooky monster" before deciding to actually make something out of it,
I thought that was symbolic, but it might have been entirely unintentional.

This is a nifty ARG. It isn’t some evil ai, robot, demon, or weird shadow government person, but just a sad nerd. Which is funny since I was really expecting *Ryan to have some more going on
I like this. It isn’t a super fantastical or scary take but something grounded enough to be real, even if it is a bit wacky. Fun and I hope we can see some more faux ARG stuff like this.

I was so immersed that by the time Mason started touring bases, going into Leahs base felt so wrong. Like this stuff felt like it had history. Fake history but still.

Something I found interesting too is that it makes sense none of the other members contacted Mason afterwards since he was the owner and they (presumably) received the same ban message, they likely assumed Mason did it and no longer wanted them there.
Furthermore with their discord accounts getting deleted/deactivated they had no reason to think about getting in contact with Mason again and just moved on without restablishing contact, even though the whole time it was orchestrated by Barry with the intention of isolating Mason and being his only friend.
It's really well done because at first the phrasing and framing makes it seem like these people are possibly disappearing irl, but no, just a group of people who could've been great friends torn apart by the betrayal of one who was parasocial towards his closest friend
It's kinda sad too when you think about it

I love how they all have different means of communication, Wynter talks with editing, Barry talks in chat, the siblings talk with signs, and Mason talks with a voice changer.

I love how this basically ended up being a closed room mystery! What a stellar idea! It's basically like a murder mystery but with less harsh implications. My first thought when I saw the pumpkin mask was "This is like a slasher villain" turns out I was partially right, it was a detective story all along!
Honestly, I've always loved the idea of an ARG taking place on a server, but I think it would be interesting to have one that's actually being played out. Like a group of actors with actual upload schedules, and a mix of live and scripted events.

It's not an ARG but I do recommend Rat's SMP (Idk what it's actually called) where basically, a bunch of modders got together, made a server and they can all make any mods that they want for the server. They have a whole story and everything and last time I watched, there were some strange almost ARG-style mysteries going on in the story with a guy called Mouthpiece.

I went into this video expecting some supernatural story, ended this video being sad because of what Barry did.
Really good ARG, and very unusual aswell. Love that the hints were there from the start, while he red herrings lead the way.

I like how this arg kinda just shows a lot more logic than the usual arg's

Fire ARD, one of the best and most creative ones in a while now
In the last video, a fire starts in the background. It's near a lava pool, but what's interesting is that it starts maybe 6 blocks away from the pool, gets put out, and another fire starts a few seconds later. This is a really in-depth ARG.

the whodunnit aspect is actually really refreshing after having a bunch of "shadow demon creatures" and "evil organization watching players" in my recommended.
Reminds me of the toxic friend group I had back in 8th. One person sucked, one trusted them too much and started accusing someone else of being the problem... One thing leads to another, dominoes topple dominoes, and next thing you know, none of us have talked in years.

I think something not being pointed out is how creatively everyone is hidden. I don't just mean the SMP-invis thing, but how we honestly know a lot but simultaneously nothing about everyone in the server. We've only gotten to hear one voice and it was hidden using a voice changer. Everyone else texted using signs/Discord. Everyone also has YT channels based on their pre-established names from the SMP, all the Discord accounts are deactivated, and we get just enough info to get to know them without getting enough info to REALLY know them. It makes them blank slates that leave a lot to the imagination about who they are, but we'll never know because this story ends with one character remaining. Very clever storytelling

FINALLY, a story set in modern-day Minecraft!! The retro 2009-2013 Minecraft genre is HEAVILY overdone. This is a much needed change, and I was hooked from the very start! Well done!!

Same here, maybe Barry somehow got onto the server mason was in and did it without him knowing, like it makes sense cause he cause the fire on HIS tower alone twice so it would probably make sense how that was him

Dude this was such a good arg. I had a feeling it wasnt wynter but didnt know who it would be. My money was on Barry but I wasnt convinced. The pieces fell into place perfectly. 10/10 video, like others echoed, it was really refreshing for the player to not be an anomaly or AI or something but one of the people in the story. Kind of sad, honwstly. I really have a particular liking for stories of possessiveness for... some reason, so i found it to be a great conclusion. Great job making this!!! ❤
29:16 this is just something I noticed. There is lava near some trees but there isn't any spark that could light it. Idk if it needs to have a spark to spread but maybe someone else lit it? Anyway, there was some grass that lit on fire, relatively far from the lava pool. Then a different fire started after the other just finished, just like that. Idk. It sounds silly but it was an odd thing I noticed... It's really weird. Overall, I love this story

I find it so cool that you make ARGs, and then make videos to explain them as if you were investigating them. I love this content- i don't have the patience nor the braincells to figure out an ARG, so this kind of video is amazing.
Plus, your commentary is really good. I'm not sure how to explain it, but sometimes a youtuber's voice or way of explaining things just doesn't click with me, which result in me not wanting to watch their content anymore- that's not happening with you, i love watching your videos!
