What a great surprise to find this video!! I am old enough to have seen the Ahrens Fox pumper,,in service at the burning of Haverhill,MA high school in 1954-1955, sitting there pumping for all she was worth,, bouncing up and down,,huge black wind screen and all. I believe the pumper was a late 1920's,, I believe six cylinder,,,hope she is still pumping.
I consider this one of the best fire engines ever built.True it had no cab&no frills but it had power and it put out fires.
My father helped restore this, he always told me that year was 1923.
Pam, that is absolutely incredible that your father had a hand in restoring the old CFD unit thank you for sharing that information. My brother spent 35 years with CFD and I am a junkie. I thought this one is the 1928 housed at the Greater Fire Museum of Chicago. I have found information about a 1923 also so thank you for the heads up, time to do more digging!! www.fireapparatusmagazine.com/2015/11/30/1928-ahrens-fox-fire-truck/#gref
Pam, I can't thank you enough for the year correction, that was a huge error on my part. I just realized that I have videos and pictures of both units and never realized the 1923 had the longer hood. Thank you again for the information, I appreciate it very much.
Were those hoses leaking?
