Nik, I must admit I wasn't the biggest fan of your racket review series at the beginning. Didn't know what to expect comparing to other instructional videos of yours. However, after several review videos, I found myself super excited seeing your latest review and I like how you format your review videos, specs first, groundstrokes next, and point play (always w/ Milan). Well organized, clear and fair comments! Thanks for making such great contents!
I love these videos! It's good to get real reactions that aren't promoted by a brand sending you the rackets. Can't wait to see what you settle on... Hope you try out the Dunlop FX 500's.
Interesting review! I really recommend trying the Gravity series-I think you'll get better control and feel from them, especially the Pro, but the Tour is also great.
@@NdRe_zA Agreed! There _are_ a couple of things Nick might not like: I'm pretty sure the handle is the same length as the Speed's, and the Pro might have too hefty a swingweight and not be as crisp as the racquets he's used to (I personally love its flexible but punchy feel). I think the Tour stands a chance though!
Depending on his opinion of the head shape, he commented on the Speed Pro shape which to me it feels and looks normal and not so big whereas the Gravity 100sq is so big and round, I find it cumbersome visually and off putting, be interesting what he thinks
I love how you talk about certain shots felt when you made them. It is so important to me. Much more so than the actual outcome. If I feel I don't have control over shots, it is weird to me. When I miss, I need to know why and what I can do to improve it next time. Small adjustments
These reviews are great content. The Head racquet that would be most up your alley is the TW exclusive Head Gravity MP XL. It should feel at home with the 27.5” length and 100 sq in headsize. Good luck in finding your Excalibur!
I hope you try the VCore series. I have a flat forehand too and the VCore 98 gives me free topspin and control on that shot. Also i'll say it again, you have to try the Percept 100D version before you narrow down your finalists!
I have played with the Head Speed MP and compared it to other power racquets like the Ezone 100 and Babolat Pure Drive 100. Following are some of my thoughts: - Power wise Ezone and the Pure Drive have more power. But that comes with a caveat : if you are able to control the power then there are no other racquets like them! Given the power, the serves are fanstastic especially with the Ezone 100 with the Pure Drive a close second. - Flex: Head Speed MP has an RA of 60 vs the 70 on both Pure Drive and Ezone. With this RA rating there is a lot more control and I love the control that comes with the Speed MP. I use Triax on the mains at 54 lbs(16g) and Tourna Big Hitter at 17g in the crosses at 52 lbs on the speed MP and it has good control and power! - Backhand and backhand slice: I have a one handed back-hand and both the slice and the backhand have good control and power. I am able to shift control the slice effectively and take it deep or short as I desire! Overall: I am trying to get my game up from 3.5 to 4(i know its a herculean effort!). But the control that comes with the Speed MP is helping me in this process. If you dont like comfort strings, then use a good poly in your string in the speed MP and it will give you good control and power!
I’ve used Speed Pros for years with my one hander and they’re great, they don’t feel too big, better feel and control than boom pro and more forgiving/bigger sweet spot than Blade..I do like those racquets also too
I tried the previous version of the Head Speed MP and the two handed BH felt great, FH pretty good, BH slice so so, but serving felt terrible to me. Also didn’t like the thick beam or the short handle. I use a Yonex Ezone 100 and it’s a good stick but more importantly Yonex racquets have longer handles that work great with the two handed BH. I can understand why you didn’t like this line but you did look a lot like Novak setting up to serve!
I switched from Blade 98 V9 to the Head Speed MP just because the MP has better power and spin. Sweetspot is also better than the Blade. The MP only lacks in control but I find that control comes from our technique and mental side. Just have to get used to it and it is a racket that will reward your gameplay!
I played several years with Speed Pro because the weight and stability was helping my backhand but it became a little too heavy and non-manuevarable for my serve and forehand under pressure. I found it a great defensive racquet, could absorb and redirect pace easily. Also it was solid at net for volleys.
The one I've been waiting for! Another great video. Sad that you hated it though. 😂I've demoed a few rackets but the Speed MP is the only one that I keep coming back to. The issue with the Pro is that it's an 18x20 which I know you don't like. You might like Head's Gravity line of rackets. They have a teardrop-shaped head and it's more control oriented. The MP and Pro versions have a 400 and 200 CPI so a little less power than the Speed line. Either way, hope you find "the one" soon!
I use a gravity MP with a 10grams in the handle(leather grip) the good thing about the head rackets is you can change the pallets really easy, from grip size 1-4 and they come extended so if you wanted you can have a longer grip. I tested size 3 to 1 in grip size just to find what felt right for my game, and ended up with grip size 1. Even though I have relatively large hands.
I started to play with old 2020 model of Speed MP but it was too light for me. I put 8 grams on sides (3 and 9 o'clock) altogether. And 2 grams on 12' o'clock and 8 grams in handle. Now it suits my needs and it's not heavy (333 grams) for me. Now i have spin, power and control..😊
I have recently switched to the speed MP and I love it. I don't have a lot of power, I am short and an amateur, so the extra power doesn't make me spray balls, it helps me a ton specially in defensive situations. Since I love the racket this was a really interesting video for me. It really shows how not all rackets work with everybody
Do you use an overgrip? I always put one on demo racquet. They don’t usually come with one or with an old worn out overgrip. It makes a huge difference.
It was strange to see how the racquet not working for you was eventually affecting your footwork. Just my take...then again I'm half asleep so never mind...lol. Milan was on fire...lol...what is he on? I'll have some please. Cheers and hope to see you choosing your racquet soon. Thanks as always for sharing Nik. M
It’s a shame you feel control lacking on the Speed Pro, I’ve just gone back to using them(bought the Legend, Gloss black looks and feels great especially with my one handed backhand throat feel)after trying a heap of 98s and using Extreme Tours, and Prestige Tours all year, I absolutely get more control with the Speed Pro, absolutely unreal racquet all around imo, but everyone feels something different
Completely with your thoughts on the Head Speed line. I could never understand the hype about these rackets. People see Djokovic and Sinner using this paintjob and instantly think its good.
Everyone likes different things I guess, I’m a Federer fan and used Speed Pros for years😅so nothing to do with Novak, I think as many others do that it does everything great with heaps of comfort…I prefer 18x20 feel and trajectory though so it really works for my game..I have your opinion on the Babolat Pure Aero 98, it’s raved about but unless you middle it, it feels like a tin can to me lol

I've played with the speed pro 2022, honestly it felt awful for me. I like the design but really bad sensations for: backhand, volleys and especially dropshots.
I feel really sorry you didn't like the speed mp 😢 I use it daily for intense training and competitions and I love it❤ but it's true that I am a heavy spin player and the racket is maybe more suitable for this game style than heavy flat hitters...
Do you have any sense how different it is from the Speed 2022? I’ve heard there is a lot of changes that is preventing me to get the last version of it…
The Auxetic 2.0 slightly stiffened it up so some people don’t like the less raw feel…Personally though I think the new ones are better for off centre shot and directness, possibly just needs to be strung 1-2 pounds softer
