Hi Amy - I am absolutely beginner - i bought long time ago one with only 6 notes - these days I have order a cheap one with more notes… as I have realized the one i have not sound good and has not enough to follow on the tutorials. thank you for your lovely tutorial - this will keep my busy for sooo long. I not like to invest in my start thousands of dolars because I realize there are so many differences….l do you have suggestions for a medium priced one? Lovely greetings from Switzerland, Claudia
I’m new to the sound of handpans and I’m researching makers. I know the note and scale I would like. What’s your personal opinion on Sela handpans? The one I’d like is currently on sale for £1760. Thanks
If you're willing to spend that much money, then I recommend buying from an actual maker rather than a brand importing instruments (as sela does). I personally don't think sela handpans are worth that price. I guess you're in the UK? Meridian Handpans are in the same price range, and are really lovely. Thats what I'm playing in this video. If you don't like them you can research other UK builders. This way, you have access to getting your pan retuned, a good case, and any other resources you might need.
It's a kurd. But it's not important which key it is in. The layout is important, though with the baseline with notes 1,2 and 3 it doesn't matter if its a diatonic, heptatonic or pentatonic scale (7 out of 7, 6 out of 7, 5 out of 7 notes respectively). It only matters when you play triads / chords laterally, which you cannot do on a pentatonic scale.
But to answer your question properly, a trained ear will help you determine what kind of scale it is. Also, most tutorials are in D minor (kurd). Good luck
Admittedly giggling again, because as a flute player I am all too familiar with those E's and UH's lmao :') A's I got you queen, I got you. Also its great to know i'm not the only one who moves so much when playing the e's and a's of our lives of handpan hehehe :') That "ahhhhhhh" at 13:37 hit me in the SOUL!! Have a beautiful week love- Haha thanks again
I love this!! The autopilot technique is hard for me!! This was super helpful
These videos are great. Easy to follow as the complexity increases. Great teaching chops to go with your playing chops! 👏
