I have a cameo 3, and I have used 2mm thick blanks with the chomas etching tool. I just have to pay attention to where I place it so the rollers don't go over it.
Place a sheet of vinyl UPSIDE down on the mat. Cut the "acrylic" shape out. Do NOT remove the mat!! remove the vinyl backing. Place the acrylic in the "cut out shape". the vinyl adhesive holds the acrylic in place during etching.
Yes but it says NOT for older machines. I would like to be able to use it with my Curio too. I ordered some blanks that are 4mm

No, I wouldn’t go thicker than 2mm in the cameo 4 for engraving. Even tho it has a 3mm clearance, I think that’s more for cutting objects. For the 4mm, I suggest you use your curio. Thanks for watching!

I used dawn and a soft sponge so I wouldn’t scratch it

Do you know if the Cricut can etch like your first saw blade project where the tools were “filled in”? Sometimes it’s hard to see with just the outline. Thanks!
Not that I know of. I was recently talking to a cricut friend of mine and she didn’t know of a way to do that.
Thanks for this video, my first etch did not work very well as the blade etched where ever it moved to so there are lines all over the acrylic. Do I just tape it in looser? | can't seem to find a way to get it up a bit higher to prevent the lines. Thanks if you can help!
Kathy Cotter if you wrap some tape lower, around the notch, it will lift it a bit. I can’t post pictures here but if you find me on Facebook.com/ellebeecreates and send me a message I can send you a picture of a fix for that.
When I am ready to etch, I select sketch on the action setting, with pen as the blade type. Once I started doing this my etches were much cleaner.

I also use Metal Engraver for my Cameo4 to engrave Plexiglas (2mm). Unfortunately, he makes scratches where it shouldn't, for example when moving the position ... I've already reduced the pressure a lot but still ... did you have any idea how I can stop ist?

The engraving blade in the description of my video is made for the Cameo 4 and doesn’t drag like the previous models
Chomas (not chRomas) has come out with a Cameo 4-version (or rather 2, regular and fine tip) of the engraving tool now. :) Also pen and marker holders for Cameo 4.
I learned about the new cameo 4 version just the other day. I’ve had mine for awhile from my cameo 3, I definitely plan on checking out the new one!

Dumb question here: can than material be cutted with the cameo?
Do you think a 1/8" thick acrylic plate would fit fine in a silhouette cameo 3? I have the engraver it's just seems like it barely fits in the slot. Havent tried actually engraving it since I'm scared it'll get stuck.
I think that would be too thick, that’s over 3mm and the max is 2mm

Just came across your video and was inspired to try it for myself with my cameo 4. Everything was going well except my blue attachment didn't fit around the chromas I got so I used it without as instructions also stated no attachments were needed but now my silhouette starts engraving in random spots on the mat and not at all where I am telling it to. Any suggestions? Awesome video!!
Make sure you’re using the engraving tip made for the Cameo 4
If you have the new chromas that doesn't fit the blue attachment, then when you put the tool in the machine don't push it all the way down. I just discovered (while having the same problem) that you can put that tool in and lock it in an different height, so lock it in a little higher instead of pushing it all the way down. It doesn't pop up and it fits over the acrylic.

No, the cameo will not cut acrylic, it will only engrave it.

The chromas etching blade? It works great in a Cameo 3 but the acrylics won’t fit under the rollers of a C3. If you can find thinner acrylics that fit, then you’ll be able to use them in the C3
@@ElleBeeCreates Cheers, but I have the new We R Memory Keepers Etch Quill and smaller acrylic blanks that I ordered. I do not have the Chomas blade. The etch quill is an etching blade. Do you think if I follow what you did with your blade and Cameo 4 that I might get close to the same results? I know it is hard for you to say, but just really wanted some encouragement in a way to try it. I did try once when I first got the etch quill, but the etching is so light I thought I may be doing summat wrong. Thank you so much for your answer. I really am not trying to put you on the spot. I’m sorry I misunderstood. If the etching was too light I would try increasing your pass number to 2 or 3. After it finishes, before unloading your mat, see if the etching is deep enough and if not send it thru for one more pass. I haven’t seen the WRMK plastic sheets in person so I’m not sure how many passes you can do without compromising the integrity of the acrylic, but I say it’s worth a shot! Please let me know how it goes.

I know you talked about taping yours on the top but I couldn’t tell which blade it was. I’m sorry I’m not that familiar with you tube...did you “link” the type of blade. I don’t know how to get to that

As long as you have your adaptors that came with your cameo you should be good

I am using the 2mm blanks and the same tool you used and I keep getting scratches when it goes from area to area. It even does it when it first starts.
If you’re using the cameo 4 make sure you’re using the chomas tool made for the cameo 4

This was very informative, however I've played around with my new blade and 3 mm acrylic and my blade keeps hitting the side of the acrylic and etching my mat. 😢
Any ideas on how I can fix this?
Wrap a piece of electrical tape around the notch so that it sits higher in the adaptor

It’s the thickest I’ve tried. Something thicker may fit but I personally wouldn’t recommend it.

Awesome video, I have one issue. I scan the acrylic with adobe acrobat and save it as a PDF. When I bring over the file to biz edition silhouette program it asks me to convert it to vector or image. It does not let me bring it as you have on your video to keep the aspect ratio. Any suggestions?
Things have changed a bit. If you’re saving it as an 8.5 X 11 pdf, import as an image and ensure that the dimension of the rectangle are 8.5 X 11 and it should be good.

I know this is an old post, but I was wondering where I can locate one of those SAW BLADE blanks? I can't seem to locate one for a project I'm building for my step-father's bday. I don't have access to a laser cutter to make my own (yet). Thanks!

I'm having a hard time getting aligned. I have the correct placement on screen and load the mat like I am supposed to and it just isn't exactly where it should be. I am not sure what to try.
I would test with paper and a sketch pen or marker in place of the blade while you test. Also run a calibration.
@@ElleBeeCreates I figured out that my rollers were moved from using vinyl without a mat. Have some issues with keeping the etching tool from moving in the holder even with the tape but having some success finally.
I’m having the same issues! I can’t get them to aligned when it’s engraving. But it’s the correct placement as it was on the Silhouette software screen.
@@anamaswari1641 I updated my software and did a firmware update and that fixed the issue.

Yes of course. Anything that can be done on a cameo can be done on a portrait, it just isn’t as wide so the size constraints are smaller.
If I'm not mistaken that's engraving, etching involves chemicals
Engraving is a deep cut, where as etching only removes the top layers. Yes, you can etch with chemicals, but you can also etch with tools and lasers.
are you sure thats a cameo four as my cameo 4 lights up. "silhouette cameo" not cameo on its own
Dave Lamb the shape is distinct tot he cameo 4. Mine glows the same.
doesnt matter what I do my engraver smacks against the edge of my acrylic .
