My father and grandfather bought a "70 Charger 440 to sup-up together when I was a toddler in the early '70s. I remember hearing that thing coming down the road from my front yard swing set. It was a dark blue with that white band around the tail and 5 pt seat-belts, and a blower poking out from under the hood. It was fucking gorgeous. My father had to sell it in '85 to pay for my grandpa's hospital bills and funeral expenses. It went to a good home, a friend of my dad and grandpa who loved that car too and would take care of it. I found out a few years back that the car was still in their family, the oldest son has it and said I could take a ride in it with him anytime. I think I'll call him soon and take him up on that offer.
I purchased one new, in a straight line that car was awesome, although the fuel gauge and speedometer seemed to work in reverse of each other 😀. Fortunately, gas was about $.25 per gallon. I sold it and bought an airplane which was slower!
Travis Thacker All Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth vehicles have been, historically, bad on fuel. I ought to know...I had one and cried on every trip to the gas station!
Yeah man now that's what I like to hear...high school friend of mine owned one. Had it painted red metalflake, mildly worked 440 4V, 4-speed stick, Cragars, big n littles, really nice car.
Bill Breck Dodge was the ONLY Dodge dealer in dusty and much-smaller-then Tucson, Arizona in 1968....when this Charger was new. One of my best friend's Dads from 7th-8th grade in 1968 was a wealthy mortuary owner and was really tight with Bill Breck...the dealership owner. One day....my buddy's Dad came home with a brand-spankin' new '68 Charger! If I'm not mistaken (hard-core MoPar guys....please verify this) it was an actual RT/SE model. It was the 440 / 4bbl with the automatic on the column, and was equipped with AirCond, PS, PB, PwrWindows/locks, etc. It was a beautiful white w/black vinyl top and a gorgeous white leather interior. As I recall....it DID have the black circular stripe that went around the trunk/sides/of the car. Oh man.....I was so into MuscleCars back then anyway at age 13, and had seen these in a couple of magazines when this new model broke out with it's new body style, but I never realized how LOW and sleek it was. It had the same chrome exhaust tips as this car in the video. Man.....that car would haul ass! BUT.....the gas mileage was horrible, and I swear I can close my eyes right now and STILL HEAR my bud's old man saying "it'll pass everything but a gas station".... After a year or so, he got rid of it...totally due to the mileage. OMG, I'd love to see that car today.....surely it's still out there somewhere....it was too beautiful and highly optioned to have been crushed, probably. I go to Barrett-Jackson in Scottsdale every winter as well as get Hemmings every month, and look for it in both places....but I've never seen it. I'm now 65....I hope I do before I pass on someday. Man, that thing would boil and smoke those tires when you power-braked it.....and just keep boiling them for a long long way when you let off the brake. I'll never forget it. Maybe some MoPar freak that knows of a match to that car could let me know....man, I'd love to see it again and correspond with the new owner about it. Fingers and toes are crossed! joel in tucson
@Born Buckeye, i hear ya. But these classics are really rubbish - you'll blow the engine keeping highway speed for any length of time. It's just nostalgia, remembering the days of youth gone by.
Ideal would be the technological advancements of the past 50 years with the simplicity and lack of regulations of the late '60s. Chevy's current small block V8 somehow manages to be amazingly torquey with 6.2 liters and running on pump gas while meeting strict emissions and fuel economy requirements (speaking from my experience driving a C7). Imagine what they could do with a big block and total freedom now.

@jd2616 - Not a 440, but a 426 Hemi - huge difference!
When I was 7 in SW Philly on Greenway avenues my uncle had just bought his brand new Dodge Charger and excitedly ran into the row home to show us. He left it running and l remember that sound until today. I also remember the sound of the car accelerating away as it was stolen and the look on my Uncle Mike's face.
The most Beautiful car ever made!
Agreed! I liked the 68 over the two later years because of those round tail lights.
That is absolutely glorious! Thanks for sharing this.
Gary Taylor The 70 R/T side panels are a nice touch. I had a 70 R/T that was white with the black vinyl top. It was stripe delete though. Had a 440 Magnum. Man I wish I had it today. This one reminds me of mine.
Sounds good. Looks like crap with that hood. Leave it alone!!
I agree, it was looking awesome backing out, until i saw the hood..
Yeah the hood was a major mistake
Hood was flat black originally, fiberglass to save weight. The air intake poking thru, -5 cool points.
Back whan cars had character! Those muscle cars from the late 60's and early to mid 70's all had so much character, you still see a few survivors from time to time in summer, brings you back to a simpler time.
my neighbor where I grew up had one of these. From what I remember, it was 440 had that "pistol grip" shifter, was dark green. He was a cop, kept it in his garage, but we all knew when he took it out . shook houses. Nasty car.. mean as hell.
Ohhhhhh loved that sound sent chills
Like to be his neighbor just to hear that beautiful sound...
MURICA!!🇺🇸 I can’t wait until my 68 is completely rebuilt. Most beautiful cars ever
There is no angle that this car would look bad from. It's just gorgeous.
No one ever:
"Sheesh, I sure am glad I got rid of my classic car..."
I had a 68 Charger that I sold for $750 in 1976. Been sick about that ever since.
If it was in good condition, sure
@@lynnhenry89 why do you complain? Those 750 dollars were not same as 750 today but way more - i guess you already know that.
The second point is that you probably invested those 750 back then into sth profitable so don't be hard on yourself.
@@lynnhenry89 I hear ya bro but I can one-up ya for sure - '67 vette ragtop 427/435 bought in 75 for $5k, sold in '80 for $10k - today $150k!!
Sounds great, like my 1967 R/T Coronet, 512 stroker😎
I have watched and listened to this video several times as this is my fav. year of Charger. What an awesome beast of a car! Loved the earliest Chargers second best but a close race.
had a 69. lived in an apartment over the garage. could always tell when it came home by the slight building shake. second best road car I ever had (to an 86 Chrysler conquest).
I was on the verge of believing you until you stated that a crappy mid-eighties Mitsubishi was better. Nice try.
@@hogsandsooners memory fart, it was an 89. but in any case (may depend on your definition of road car) it was faster and cornered better (maybe because tires improved) which makes it better by my definition. loved them both but also loved my 58 morgan +4, 66 Suzuki x6 and 70 Kawasaki mach III.
Amazing sound
❤️
I had a 1970 Challenger with a 318 when I was in my 20's. I so wish I had kept it.
I had a 70 SE Changler 383HP RAN A 10.26 QTR MIL.
Challenger damn autocorrect
I had a 1967 Mustang 289 3-speed on the floor. With the pony package. It was great I wish I never got rid of it either I didn't know what I had at the time
My father and grandfather bought a "70 Charger 440 to sup-up together when I was a toddler in the early '70s.
A classic. Thanks for sharing your beautiful car. 🇺🇸
really loved it till I saw how you screwed up that hood.
Wonderful sounding engine, ball tingling, organ enlarging, smile inducing, mood enhancing, dream chasing, life affirming perfection.
The car was built to boost men's testosterone levels. I guess it worked. LOL!
Beautiful ride and no better sound in the world then a hot rod coming to life!!! ❤️
this beast deserves a bigger garage
That would make a cool ring-tone.
+Pastor Fuzz Wow, that is a fantastic idea.
Was thinking the same thing man!
I made a ring-tone for my old Nokia from this:
ruclips.net/video/BHcF4bmAMJM/видео.html
Damn that car looks awesome and I'm a chevy guy.
Brings back memories, love it.
The coolest front end ever and a sound that will never be out done or duplicated by today’s “muscle” cars!
I purchased one new, in a straight line that car was awesome, although the fuel gauge and speedometer seemed to work in reverse of each other 😀. Fortunately, gas was about $.25 per gallon. I sold it and bought an airplane which was slower!
OHHH that's funny.
I think my 69 GTO could take it.
Travis Thacker All Chrysler/Dodge/Plymouth vehicles have been, historically, bad on fuel. I ought to know...I had one and cried on every trip to the gas station!
DesertDenizen I also bought one new and sold it in 1970 and bought a VW Van. What the Hell was I thinking? 🤣
.25 a gallon ??? Wish i was payin that much now. Never seen .25 cents a gallon but i'm 22 so yeah that's the only reason why but i love my 1500
Sounds like an oversized cam and a Holley 650 double pumper. Just Sayn'.
Too bad he butchered the hood with that breather!
Probably an Aftermarket hood.
No true Mopar enthusiast would cut into a perfectly good 68' factory hood.
Jdog 93 well, there are idiots out there so it is possible he did.
it doesnt detract from the overall look which is Detroit crap
Add insult to injury dude got the smallest one in stock
I had a roadrunner in 69 and it was fast, miss those big car days
kenneth watkins ..we were 18 in ‘69 and a friend had a new Roadrunner. I was jealous cause he made good money logging and I could not afford one.
I sure as fuck don't. more trouble and pollution than they were worth. the air is MUCH cleaner in the cities these days
mrbubetube You dont have to burst someone's enthusiasm by exaggerating about how much they pollute air you know...
2:16 is the best part of this video.......I get to press play and watch it over again!! 🔥🤙🏻
That cam speaks volumes, sick 68!
That beats ANY modern day car hands down!! Long live real muscle cars!!
This, from the guy with a yearly bus pass..
@@Gjoa1906 I drive a BMW bud
@Born Buckeye, so you're at the shop almost as often as the owner of this car..
@@Gjoa1906 actually its been a very reliable car. Expensive but good.
@Born Buckeye, i hear ya. But these classics are really rubbish - you'll blow the engine keeping highway speed for any length of time. It's just nostalgia, remembering the days of youth gone by.
What a beast 🥰
Can’t beat the sound of an old muscle car. Keep your Ferrari, Lamborghini, or Bugatti. I’ll take this any day of the week and twice on Sunday’s
Sounded so familiar to my 70 RoadRunner (of course it would,) miss that car everyday but will still have the memories!
They don't makem like they used to thats 4 dam sure
Thank god for that!
