Let's be honest horchata has many variations and I'm showing you my favorite version here! you a fan of basically cinna milky drinky? recipe 1 C long grain rice 2 whole cinnamon sticks 1 star anise (2 for stronger taste) 1/4 almonds 2C Water 1/2 can sweetened condensed milk 1/2 C sugar 1Tbsp Vanilla extract 2C milk
I always thought Mexican and Spanish horchatas were the same, until I went to visit a friend in Spain and he showed me the original horchata made from the horchata root, since it doesn't have any milk, it's more of a juicy experience, both 10/10 beverages with the same name
Just to clarify, horchata is the name of the beverage, chufa is the only ingredient (+sugar/water), and apparently is translated into tiger nut, which are, indeed, chufas
Because the drink of Mexico is its own thing, but the name was lost, and the Spanish would just call it horchata because they thought it was the same drink from Africa.
@@TheSonicFan4 what's the weight of the bags you use there? Here it's either 5 or 10KGs I mean ofc you can buy rice without buying such a huge amount but we usually prefer that

Got hooked on this at a local Mexican restaurant. Family owned and operated little establishment. Freaking awesome drink, thank you for this. I've been wanting a recipe for a while
In Spain the recipy is different. Here we use "chufa" (tiger nuts) instead of rice, with just water and sugar. It has a weird taste the first time you try it but the more you drink it the better it gets. Usually you drink it with "fartons", they are long airy sweet buns. I've never tried the Mexican version with rice but might give it a try to see if they are similar o completely different .
@@MM-re1jw It’s really not that bad, you just have the fucking taste buds of an undeveloped sea turtle. I’m not saying you’re not entitled to your own opinion, you are, but so is op. I know I’m contradicting myself but try to atleast be more respectful.
Someone told me that the "OG" horchata in Spain used to be made from "Tiger Nuts". They sound sussy baka but they are tiny, tiny tubers (like potatoes!) that have a very nutty flavor to them. Never ended up making horchata out of them, but my friends who have tree nut allergies are able to eat them so I made some nut substitute recipes with them! Mine came dehydrated and I soaked them to make them softer and easier to blend/cook. All that to say also, thanks for a LEGIT horchata recipe and not a blogger recipe like I got baited into 😂😂
Here in Spain i've never seen rice horchata in my 30 years of being alive lol. It's all made with tiger nuts like you say, which we call "chufa", in the 13th century it used to be called "chufa milk" before it was called horchata.
That's why Salvadorans and Guatemalans horchata isn't as good as Mexican horchata. Morro seeds is just too much flavor. Horchata needs to be simple sweet and refreshing
The original horchata (orxata in catalan/valencian) originated in the Kingdom of Valencia in modern day Spain and it's only made out of tigernuts (chufa), water and sugar. It's creamy, light on the palate and has a distinctively sweet and nutty flavor with subtle earthy undertones. If you visit Spain or are able to buy tigernuts and make it yourself, you should try it, it's quite unique!
You are wrong. it did not originate in Valencia. this drink was introduced by the Muslim North Africans and became part of the Muslim culture of people who lived in modern Spain
I lived in Aurora, Il, and there is a very dense Latino population. The food, THE FOOD!! Horchata became one of my favorite drinks. That and a Torta with a fat juicy jalapeño and I'm happy
Idk how old I was when I first had horchata but it changed my life. I love me some horchata. All day everyday. Thank you for this recipe. Appreciate you.

Actually it would be more correct to say is a Hispanic drink cause it's originally from Spain and then the Hispanic American countries made their own version
I have a mexican friend. I don't know how he makes anything. He makes large amounts of food but only lives with his mother, so we get a lot of his cooking. Whenever he brings out the containers, it's going to be a perfect day, no matter how bad it was before

Tiger nuts
Yes, made with tiger nuts here in Spain -- originated in Valéncia (Alboraya).
Also, I just learned that tiger nuts are not a nut but actually a root/tuber of a grassy looking plant.
Because the drink of Mexico is its own thing, but the name was lost, and the Spanish would just call it horchata because they thought it was the same drink from Africa.
