- The Wabash Cannonball was recorded live at the opening ceremony celebrating The Grand Ole Opry House 40th Anniversary Celebration on March 15, 2014.
It's an all star cast, past and present.
Can we have a conversation about how under appreciated and undervalued Josh Turner is?! He needs to do a full cover of this song!
I would pay to see that
Would love that!
@@mattcampbell334 I would pay to play with them all. What a jam!
Brilliant . Josh turner singing wabash cannon ball . Fantastic .
It brings a tear to my eye as I recall hearing Roy Acuff some 70 years ago on an old battery powered radio.
I'm only 22, and I absolutely love Roy Acuff and all the great singers back then!
@David Tucker You can thank my grandma for that, just recently she passes, and Elvis was her favorite
Funny how one of the most iconic country songs of all time is about a mythical train out of Indiana that made stops in northern cities like New York, Chicago and St. Louis and ventured to Minnesota, and even Canada in Hank Snow's version. True, the song also cites Birmingham, Ala. and a girl from Tennessee. As a boy, my folks let me visit a friend who had moved from Chicago to Indianapolis. I rode on a streamline of the Monon Railroad, also known as the Hoosier Line, whose trains supposedly were the inspiration for the song about the Wabash Cannonball.
being from Indiana, you are spot on
To those who give this the thumbs down, you just don't get it, do you? This is as good as it gets, fippin fantastic Wow!!
Love seeing Bill Anderson and Josh Turner side by side - two of country music's best!
Ketch Secor is a natural MC, he injects a lot of positive energy.
I remember my dad strumming his guitar and singing this old song when I was a kid. He could do a train whistle that would send chills up your spine. I'm 70 years old now with a hard tour of Vietnam and a lot of other things behind me. I sure miss this ole song... thanks.
Whats Vietnam have to do with this ?
Vietnam Vet, 1968-69
@@bnj3852 Why the snarky shot? The song brought back memories good & bad.... like 10 months in Vietnam and 58 days in Cambodia, the two times I was wounded and the 16 buddies I lost. (If you'd like, I'll send you their names). Why would a real Vietnam vet even have to ask a question like that??? Curious about your MOS. Mine was 11-Delta. UPDATE... ONE MONTH LATER. "bnj" didn't respond to this, which doesn't surprise me. Trash talking another vet tells me he was in the rear some where safe and sound while the other 10% of us were in the field slugging it out with you know who. I guess he just now decided he wanted to fight.
Thank you for your service and sacrifice!
Thank you for your service
cambodianexperss: THANK YOU FOR YOUR SERVICE!!! MUCH APPRECIATED!!!!
There’s simply nobody like josh turner🤩
Love it. My daddy is up there in Heaven with the music makers he loves and with his Savior
Now..... that is real music.... why oh why don't we have music like that on the radio today. Thank goodness for RUclips for preserving the music of the world. Great music! Brings tears to my eyes thinking about the great music of yesteryear..... thanks to the Google Boys for buying RUclips. Cheers...
Straight up gives you chills... this song is definitely a Family Tradition for country music fans!!!
This one of most powerful songs ever composed. I can't get enough of it !
You can see the respect everyone had for this song. Together and family makes country music strong just look at that stage Roy Acuff would be so proud!
This has got to be one of the greatest show openings in music history. Brightened my day on a dreary January morning.
I agree with you ..5**.
It would be great to be at the Opry
Evan Jones it’s picking me up...I’m an 80 year old great grandmother living in assisted living! Love this version.
The very first was the scene from opening night of the new Opry House after a 34 year run at the Historic Ryman Auditorium. It still baffles me how the timing was perfect going from Roy Acuff's video version to the exact note change live on the Opry stage.
This was shown on Ken Burn's documentary.
Josh turner needs to come back. Always liked him
It would be nice if more music out of Nashville sounded a little more like this..
Yeah what happened to music like this? Today’s country isn’t country anymore.
@@gb1706 Desert Storm. After that, it was all downhill.
@@gb1706 today’s “country music” is pop with a slight twang
@@theblocksmith645 And utterly formulaic. The songs all sound the same, with the same breaks and the same vocal patterns.
@@gridlore thanks for the edvadence to validate my point
The Osborn brothers are one of a few bands that still make great classical country instead of the country pop mix that it is today and I am glad that they sang at least a part of the song to keep the music alive
The only country pop mix I want to here is classic country with 1860s pop aka good country with the source of its sound from the civil war
This gives me goosebumps, every single time I watch it.
Me too! I watch it at least twice a week.
Everyone was having so much fun. I was enjoying it so much myself, I wish there were 2 or 3 more verses.
Listen to the jingle, the rumble, and the roar!
Blessings everyone ❤
Great song, clever intro with Mr. Acuff, and to see the stars there. RIP to those greats who have sadly passed
That Osbourne Brother in blue... Although he seems affected by his years...I fondly remember him singing Good Ol Rocky Top...along with that speed freak banjo brother of his...Props, Osbournes... From Ol Sarge...
Love the song, the musicians and Thank God for train songs!..
THAT TAKES. ME BACK WHEN MY DAD. I
USED TO PLAY THE OLD COUNTRY MUSIC. JIMMY ROGERS, ROY, JIMMY DAVIS. I DO MISS THOSE DAYS. THANK YOU FOR BRINGING THIS TO US!
you're welcome. I have hundreds of video clips that I would like to edit and post. But these days it's hard for me to do a lot as I have stage 3 Parkinson's disease, and I am limited on what I can do. Glad you enjoyed the post.
I would REALLY love to hear Josh Turner with a full solo version of this good ol tune....
Could listen to this all day!
What a great performance...
On a good day ... when I'm feeling not so bad ... I like to pick up a Stratocaster and try to play this melody as fast as I can go. Hard to come up with new melody variations, but it's a fun 'un! This reminds me of a CMA show many years ago when country music was handed over to singers like Reba and Vince and players like Albert Lee, by the old timers, when they joined in a circle and sang, "Will The Circle Be Unbroken." Was quite a show ... Nice to see so many, old and young (THEN, young!) who have come to know Jesus, the Maker of the universe and the Savior of mankind ... if they believe and repent.
Probably the best part of country music is concern for legacy. Old and young musicians gather to continue the art form. It will be a sad day if the lights permanently dim on the GOO.
Very true
I hope it wont close for a long time
I love the Wabash Cannonball no matter who sings it or what group or Collective of singers
Loved it. Original Carter family singing it was my fav version but this was great! Thanks for sharing.
The young man on fiddle, lead off singer, great. lots of energy.
That's Ketch Secor from Old Crow Medicine Show
Fabulous thank for preserving this event and sound!!
Nobody sings The Wabash Cannonball better than Boxcar Willie.
I also prefer that version
I know, he was my favorite too! Merle Travis may have been a great inspiration to Boxcar and I think he wrote it. Roy Acuff made it popular, but in a different time frame, Boxcar would be number 1. He should have gotten honorable mention along with Travis.
Roy Acuff is the best
Love love LOVE this version!
This gives me chills everytime love it!!
WSM 650 AM Best country classic radio stadion god bless evryone grand ole orpry best country thats country music comes from god bless everyone
I come back to this about once a week...at least...I’ll be 81 in April!
Same, but I'll be 59 in September
🍻👍
I'll be 34 in August
I'll be 16 this July
Real Country Music no matter who sings it.
This is amazing ans will within stand the test of time Just AMAZING
I love this rendition! Wonderful!
Love that song! I also spotted the "Riders In The Sky" group!!! Love those guys! Always the best dressed around (one look you automatically know they are counrty/western, unlike most "country singers") and having the most fun. Notice at the end one of the threw his hat in the air un a true country/cowboy fashion!
💯
Sara Carter was the 1st sing and record this back in 1929! :)
Love this a lot of class. Great music and singers.
song is timeless
Outstanding ! American Music by some of the best!
Love y'all my music hero's ..
What a beautiful song this is what my late Dad would sing and use his mouth piece harmonica It's great to hear this
This song is priceless
I Love this song.... greetings from Rio de Janeiro
I'm not sure what I'm more impressed by here; The end result or how much of we didn't see that led to this
good bless all classic country hajrullahu it will stay all country just like on the radio WSM
I go to K-State this doing will always have a place in my heart
This is REAL country music!.
Now that’s. Music
Ii absolutely love this opening! I hate being old because I have no idea how they did it!
Im wondering about the same....🤔
Anyone else notice the crowd gets really excited when Josh starts in
Looks like a Douche but is actually a decent guy and a good singer after all.
@@RoadRunnerSim he’s a super nice guy. Look up Josh Turner and Logan blade. It’s an autistic kid that he granted a wish for and allowed the kid to sing long black train with him on stage
Yes. I did too heha
His voice has it. especially those older style songs...Id like to hear him sing a george jones, david allan coe song....the ones that "can rip your heart out when they sing"
@@johnlawrence7090 he’s sang “he stopped loving her today” and silver wings
Very, very, very wonderfull ..... !!!!!
A Couple Years Ago I Found Out Something That's TRULY Amazing, Back In March Of 2020 The Week That Most Things Shutdown In This Country Due To Covid, One Of The Few Things That Went On That Week Was The Broadcast Of The OPRY.
Can we appreciate how much better the late 80s early 90s red barn set looks over the modern Vegas light show barn of today.
Such talent
Love you bunches and Nathan
Great music that I was raised on!
Wabash cannonball is the one and only country song that made country music popular
From the great Atlantic Ocean to the wide Pacific shore, To the green old flow'ring mountains, to the ice-bound Labrador She's long and tall and handsome and known quite well to all. She's the modern combination called the Wabash Cannonball. So listen to the jingle, the jumble and the roar D G as she glides along the woodlands, through the hills and by the shore. Hear the mighty rush of the engine, and the lonesome hoboes squall, while riding through the jungle on the Wabash Cannonball.
She came in from Birmingham on a cold and frosty day. As she rolled into the station, you could hear the people say, "There’s a gal out there form Tennessee, she’s long, boy, and tall. She's the modern combination called the Wabash Cannonball." So listen to the jingle, the jumble and the roar D G as she glides along the woodlands, through the hills and by the shore. Hear the mighty rush of the engine, and the lonesome hoboes squall, while riding through the jungle on the Wabash Cannonball.
Now the Eastern states are dandy, so the all the people say, From New York to Saint Louis and Chicago by the way, from the lakes of Minnehaha where the laughing waters fall, No change in standard gauging on the Wabash Cannonball. G C So listen to the jingle, the jumble and the roar as she glides along the woodlands, through the hills and by the shore. Hear the mighty rush of the engine, and the lonesome hoboes squall, while riding through the jungle on the Wabash Cannonball.
Source? Because the Wabash Cannonball is the route, not the train.
This is great!
Love Josh turner ❤️
Ah, back when country was still close to its roots in bluegrass. I love this music. Modern country? Not so much.
Doesn't country predate Bluegrass?
Josh turner kicks butt. He is the man
Love it
Love it and Nathan
Wonderful
Love this song.
Long live the Grand ole opry👏
Also goes by St Louis next time I’ll catch it
I wish the last time I went to the Opry 3 years ago was like this.
so amazing!!!!!
Love this.
Brilliant!
love it
Thanks
I love this
Waiting for the 50th.
And Nathan ❤❤❤❤❤
Love this 👍
Wish Sara Carter could of been here to sing this :( she recorded this song back in 1929.
That’s music and we all miss the original church
Who and the hell are all these people? Only recidined about half but they all made me smile.
I'll do my best here.
0:50 Front: Ricky Skaggs, Bobby Osbourne, and Ketch Secor. Next row back: Josh Turner (plaid shirt) and Bill Anderson (white clothes)
1:16 Willie Watson (sunglasses and guitar)
1:48 Back: Douglas Chrisman (red shirt) and Frederic LaBour (coyboy hat, glasses, white mustache)
1:55 Clint Black
2:35 Back right: Blake Shelton holding his wife and fellow singer Miranda Lambert
3:10 Sharon White, Ricky Skagg's wife (black curly hair, glasses)
Somewhere in the video is a guy with a yellow guitar (I can't find him); he's Jimmy Olander. Someone claims that Jason Isbell is in there, too, but I can't spot him; he's a guitarist as well as a singer, but I don't know if he's playing an instrument here or not.
A galaxy of superstars
Back when the Grand Ole Oprah was still grand!
It is....
Opry, not Oprah! She already thinks she is grand.
It ain't Grand anymore! Country is crap these days
@@justingilliland5314 still great outlaw country made. Just never gonna hear it from them.
it will never be like that again
That just made me cry
I got chills
Amazes me that they let Josh turner do a small solo
Probably because he was the only modern singer who knew the damn words. But still he killed it.
That's because Josh actually keeps it country and doesn't do what Luke Bryan and all them do. Josh's newest album his mount Rushmore of country is great
Thats because Josh Turner has an amazing voice, and the other thing is, hes so gorgeous to look at…..now would you like to go down that road again??
Amazing kids
im big fan of WSM 650 AM and Grand Ole Opry
Thank you .
What an epic music video with some of the best country muisc artists ever...😀. But how did they do the opening...?? 🤔
In background is Blake and Miranda.
