Damn, Odin managed to trick all of them, all except for that ONE loud mouth Blacksmith, Brok. That alone tells you how perceptive Brok is when it comes to details in his craftmanship.
I mean Tyr's motive is not even clear for me he give up fighting and all of sudden he's wanna join and suspiciously take Loki mask. That's doubtful action for sure.
@Name Unknown to be fair, if he had been the real Tyr he might have still realised Fimbulwinter had arrived, and it was prophetised that Fimbulwinter would come after Baldur's death.
@Name Unknown remember the prophecy for Fimbulwinter says it will start when, "The Invulnerable God dies" or something like that. Because Fimbulwinter started, I think it's easy enough to comprehend
As Faye said: "To grieve deeply... is to have loved fully." It reflects so much on Sindri, Kratos, Freya -hell even us. It hurts the soul to know that.
Everyone talking about how amazing the story is and how emotional this was but let's not forget, the music especially in this cutscene is phenomenal. Really compliments everything so perfectly
And to add to that, the dwarf that sits down on a rock, and starts playing the The hurdy-gurdy @ 5:08 is actually the composer for all of the music in the game. Santa Monica gave him a MoCap character.
I love the detail of how before Brok's death, Sindri would always teleport when the camera was looking away from him, so it would appear like he just popped up. Now, he just teleports without caring about others seeing him do it. It really shows how broken he is.
Sindri got absolutely bullied in this game. Atreus didn’t value his friendship enough, even knocking him out of the way in bear form. He repeatedly got put in situations he didn’t want to be in. He built a house for everyone and no one truly appreciated it. Then his brother gets stabbed by the god they all hate. No wonder he’s a shell of his former self.
You can say it’s Atreus fault. But you can’t predict outcome. Do Atreus want this to happen ? No, but it was irrelevant. Besides, Atreus did helped Brok and Sindri unite together from God of War 2018. Without him, their bond would never be the same. Without Brok help to forge Kratos a new weapon to defeat Hendmell, he would have kill Atreus. And without Brok exposing Odin disguised as Tyr, the whole group would be imprisoned or dead. Doing right thing isn’t easy answer. It’s very complicated. Like i said, we can’t predict the outcome no matter how hard to try to avoid it.
He needs time, if Freya can learn to work with Kratos then Sindri will forgive Atreus one day. In the end like everything that happened in Olympus was Zeus' fault everything that happened here was Odin's, he'll realize that soon enough
@@nikkimiddlekillsday5161 freya knew Odin was at fault since before but pinning the blame was easier, sindri is freshly wounded his rage is erratic, he killed Odin but his death can’t bring back Brok. Look at kratos for example; after having killed ALL of the Greek gods did he feel better? Not exactly, their deaths were his journey but his family was the destination
I love that the riddle they chose reflects sindris personal grief right now. "What gets bigger the more you take away?". he feels empty, or has a "hole" in his heart, but chooses to close himself, or "take away" the found family he has which will only make his grief worse or, "make the hole bigger". Absolutely masterful writing
It's like Kratos told Freya, "Vengeance will not bring you peace". Sindri had taken it upon himself to kill Odin's soul and he got his vengeance, but it didn't bring him peace.
I was amazed at this payoff happening at all. The setup of brok stumping Mimir with the riddle is delivered during just “normal” in-game dialog while you’re going to get the spear made. That’s like… probably 6-8 or so hours at least before you could make it to this funeral if you were just playing through the story as quickly as possible. What attention to detail, and respect for the intelligence of the player to bookend that in that way.
Also this might be a reach but Brok was also (w)hole. Like the words Kratos told Brok after meeting the lady of the forge. “The form doesn’t matter, only it’s nature”. Despite that Brok only had 3 quarters of his soul, it didn’t matter. Brok was still whole just as much anyone else. I believe that’s what Kratos was going to say before Sindri cut him off. Brok was… whole
I could not hold back the tears for Brok's funeral. When he was initially killed, it was just more baffling and shocking than anything. But you really start to process how great of a character Brok is when you attend his funeral.
It hurt to see Sindri covered in dirt and grime whenever you saw him after Brok's death. He was always so fearful and self-conscious about himself and small things, but he's just an absolute wreck physically and emotionally by the end. He just...doesn't care anymore. I didn't expect him to be the emotional focus of the ending, but it was the most impactful of all.
He changed his forging style to be like Brok. He feels the metal with his hands, swings his hammer with more force, and doesn’t worry about cleanliness anymore. It’s a way to honor his memory.
"Stop it. I know what you did. And I forgives ya. But y'gotta stop. Y'gotta let go." That's his mistake, he held on knowing he'd lose him one day. Now, I imagine it'll take him a long time to fully let go but inevitably he should, as Brok wished for Sindri.
Especially because he knows he won't see Brok again, not even in the afterlife. When he resurrected Brok he did so at the cost of fragmenting Brok's soul. That's gotta hurt even more, even the idea of death isn't a comfort now because he knows Brok won't be there waiting for him. He has a LOT of anger towards Odin, and Atreus, true...but make no mistake, he has a lot of anger towards himself as well. He has nothing to live OR to die for. He is in for a long period of grief. And there's no telling how he'll turn out afterwards.
I always loved Sindri and Brok's dynamic. Sindri always was seen as the more mature one but Brok is the actual mature one even with his curses and a language fouler than a 14 year old emo he still the one who forgives, he is still the one who teaches, he is still the one who moves on first.
@@mcmew3427Sindri knew the consequences of his actions, it’s unclear if in death Brock’s soul will be whole again or is it lost forever but Sindri knew what is to come with the price of resurrection.
Before I finished the game I was wondering what the answer to Broks riddle was and even thought it was a dropped plot point, then this scene happened and I had to pause my screen out of disbelief. Absolutely fucking masterful writing
Same. I haven’t been that impressed with writing in a long time. To delay the payoff to that riddle for literally hours of in-game time in an optional epilogue is just awesome.
The moment at 8:00 speaks volumes. He wants someone to blame, but he can't. He wants to blame Atreus for the cause of all these events but he knew fate has everything planned, they mention it time and time again, those who seek to avoid it, will eventually fulfill what was written. Brokks fate came to pass at the accident at the forge, but Sindri tried to defy fate and revive him. He wishes to hate on Kratos and everyone but they brought him the justice he deserved with Odin. This was a trap for Sindri, he would either lose Brokk to fate, or if Ragnarok had not come to pass, would lose him either way. The one major detail being someone who was a clean freak, who wore gloves for everything he touched, no longer wears his gloves, and neither does he care what anyone thinks anymore. Brokk wants him to be free, but Sindri has never known a world without him.
he doesn’t want to blame, he already does blame them, he just doesn’t care anymore and just wants to be alone, the whole game is about how fate shouldn’t defy your choices, Kratos killed Heimdall to keep Atreus safe and not because of the prophecy, prophecy also said that it was Tyr that would them against Odin, we know how that went, also in giant panels in Jotunheim it was prophesied that Kratos would die and Atreus goes to Odin, though technically that happened since Thor killed and revived him, hell even at the end you get the Fate Breaker armor, fate didn’t kill Brok, Odin did, also Sindri wore the gloves and was germphobic because of the souls that was dragging him in the lake of souls when he saved Brok, he stopped wearing the gloves because he doesn’t care anymore, all that it mattered in his life was Brok, his only family and now he is gone sadge
@@johnnyboy3410 you’re incorrect about one thing. Fate showed that a someone with a spear would lead the armies against Odín. It was just assumed that it was Tyr.
You are absolutely correct. Many won't see it this way, but Sindri is his own self to blame for this. Had he not defy fate the first time, this wouldn't had happened. Had he coped with Brok's death the first time, he wouldn't be feeling this grief, hatred and pain. Brok told him to let him go and that's what Sindri must do.
Mimir solving the riddle hours after players probably forgot about it, which just happened to be thematically fitting (on top of super emotional) for the exact moment that Sindri left… As a writer I know the narrative team fuckin high fived the shit out of each other when someone had that brain blast. Also perfect delivery from Mimir’s actor. It’s just a divine dramatic moment that will stick with me for a long time.
It also seems to me they set up the perfect little quip for the very end of Brok's story. when Kratos goes to tell Sindri something he says, "Brok was.." then he is cut off it then picks up with Mimir saying, "A hole" or asshole, like how most people in lore would refer to him jokingly or not. To me thats the cherry on top of Brok's story and just what he would've wanted
I could see by how Sindri looked at Kratos he wants to blame him. However he deep down knows it was not his fault so he held whatever he was going to say. Damn. Every time Kratos finds a friend something happens to them.
They were all hurting but the ones that was hurting the most was sindri, atreus, kratos and mimir they were a family as atreus did call both brok and sindri his uncles. Plus the fact that sindri and kratos are the ones to set a float brok boat.
@@nnightkingj Yeah, I think even if he did somehow forgive Atreus, he will never be friends with him again but even that's expecting too much from him.
The very worst part of this is that you know he will be alone after this cause he will choose to be alone, and no one can stop him because no can find him.
The saddest part is that, because Brok is missing a part of his soul, his soul can’t reach the light of Alfheim and he is forever stuck wandering without an afterlife. I think one of the reasons Sindri took Brok’s death so hard was because he knows, because of what Sindri did, Brok is forever lost and denied peace in his afterlife. I really, REALLY hope we have a quest in the next game where we find the missing piece of his soul and help him find peace. Atreus should be the one to do it since he’s getting quite good with souls and Giant magic. It will be a beautiful redemption for him and Atreus can say his goodbye to Brok since he wasn’t at the funeral 😢
I really hope for this too. Brok does not deserve the fate of not having an afterlife. And this would be a fitting thing for Atreus to do to help. Even if it only slightly helps Sindri to recover, at least Brok can rest in peace.
Yeah, thats what many people forget. Sindri is so devastated because his prior action in resurrecting Brock led to a fate far worse death later... Because he was too selfish and scared to let Brock rest in peace. I really hope we get that quest to find Brocks 4th soulpart in the next GOW...
Man... it hits like a damn train when sindri says "I love you, Brok". Is so sad, I really hope we can see Sindri again in future gow games... I missed those two each time I bought stuff :( Brok was a good friend to Kratos too.
@@thelordofthelostbraincells Yeah, you might be right, even some people drastically change when someone they love is gone, poor sindri, I hope at least he find peace and not become our enemy in the next games.
@@martinvr12 I wonder what happens next? Like this is the second pantheon "kratos" has destroyed. I got told by someone in another comment section that the next game should probably have us play as atreus and/or angrboda, they would probably stop in Egypt to see if there are any jotuns (giants) there, and atreus might get caught up in the whole Horus and set story. I'm not sure how that would work, but that sounds cool non the less
@@thelordofthelostbraincells Yeah, I think Atreus' story set in Egypt would be great, poor Kratos needs a rest, but hopefully to see them again together. I miss the boi, playing as a Atreus was also smooth.
Sindri starts descending into madness after this. Everyone has a limit to which they break, even the nicest of people, just sad that it happens to the nicest character in the game
@@alihernandez3806 I feel like he’s just gonna be the next Freya lol, he did kinda put all the blame onto the giants so he’s definitely going for Atreus.
Hes just grieving. Nothing he did suggests he would be descending into madness, his behaviour is totally normal for someone who just lost his only family. I don't know why you would say this, I guess we played two different games
The most sad thing about this is that there is no doubt that Kratos recalls the time just when Brok dies when Deimos was slammed onto a stone wall by Thanatos and died. I doubt Kratos didn’t feel some sort of emotion after that happened.
Kratos is definitely sad , 1) he mourns silently and doesn't often cry 2) he doesn't know to express emotions like he loved his son and wanted him to be a great fighter but didn't know how to train atreus without hurting him
Sindri lost brok and kratos is sad because brok helped kratos many times, and kratos consider brok a friend, a VERY CLOSE friend, he sympathize with sindri, he lost his brother too and then sindri is broken and mad just like kratos is mad when he lost deimos Wtf do you mean "i doubt kratos didnt feel for brok"?, he has his own feelings you dumbass, he just dont want to showw his weak side, you are high or something?
When Kratos tried to console him, I feel like SIndri wanted to yell at him, like be angry and take it out on Kratos, but he couldn't. Despite it all, even he couldn't blame him and just felt sad. Then, he left.
His brother's soul is completely lost, he doesn't even have an afterlife, he's so heartbroken and angry at himself he can't help but lash out at everyone
@@ReinAfterDark that’s the thing, HE DOOMED HIS BROTHER, the moment he took 3 quarters of his soul just to bring him back from the dead he ended his entire existence, what if one day he passed of old age? What if sindri died first and knew when brok’s day comes he will not be there? Sindri knew this will happen, this is all sindri’s fault
@@grief6052 it is his fault, but when you're going through this kind of loss, the complete total loss of someone you hold dear and it was your fault, you'll lash out at the world and slowly destroy yourself if not given help
@@ReinAfterDark oh absolutely, but it’s only delaying the inevitable, one day when he’s going about his daily business or raging against everything he will realize that in the end, his actions were the only ones that doomed brok, not odin, not atreus, not kratos, no one
even mimir the smartest man doesnt have that bullsh¡t detector. also it took mimir to solve the riddle's answer "hole" after brok's funeral. also he was the one who found a way to heimdall's weakness overpopulate his senses with draupneir's spear. damn he was one hella smart guy.
The prior dialogues of that joke were so light hearted, so I felt extremely sad when Mimir said the final answer as well. Man. What a great game and attention to detail.
The part that REALLY hits for me too is they have the level of respect to give you NO solace in the situation. It really drives home how tragic the whole thing is. A lot of games would cave and give you some sort of happy ending to go on at the end, it's rare for them to truly just let the ending of the story be nothing but grief.
I know the feeling. This game is a masterpiece in storytelling. Got misty eyed a couple times throughout this and after completing it, I'm left with that empty "what do I do now" feeling.... can't play this for the first time anymore....
Me too, man. When you have to say goodbye to the most important person in your life, how do you even express what they meant to you? How much you miss them? How much you mourn for them? How you're not you without them? You say I love you.
@@NitroNinja324 That's why you appreciate people while they are living. It still hurts when they die but there is comfort in knowing you were good to them.
8:00 Face capture has advanced significantly, and you can really see it in this bit. Sindri going through every emotion, from pure rage to the realization that it's pointless to say anything to Kratos, and then back to the broken man we saw since Brok's death. What an absolutely incredible story, contained within an already incredible story.
I like to think in that moment he remembered what Kratos did and realised a few things. First being that it would be pointless to pick a fight with him, second being he doesn't want to end up like him, third being he's already like him.
@@RileyWritey Imagine being so broken that you want to be angry, sad, anything because of your loss, but the void is so huge, so vast, there's nothing to feel anymore. It just swallows up everything now. There isn't anything left to say, or feel, or do. There's just...nothing at all.
I wouldn't say detail, I mean it is his brother dying so I suppose out of respect they stepped back or in shock they stepped back. But yeah I agree it was a very sad moment with just the two of them
The worst thing about this is since brok was resurrected, the way they did only 3/4 bits of his souls survived so he can’t go to an afterlife he’s stuck in limbo and there’s nothing we can do
@@AreztristanWT yeah Mimir said like 3/4 of broks soul was recovered yet since he lost the 4th part he can’t do anything he’s drug and he can’t do anything
That was the REAL punch to the gut. You’re essentially ready for any of the characters you like to die but to know the soul of your loved one will not find the peace that they deserve in the afterlife is beyond haunting. It’s the kind of unsettling feeling that makes a person spend the rest of their lives trying to find a way right that wrong for their dear loved one.
@@MrShapow23 And that's part of why Sindri is so fucked up. Regardless of the fact that Odin killed him, regardless of the fact that Atreus brought this into their home, _he's_ the reason Brok's fate was so tragic, and he knows it. Honestly, I think he'd be less angry if he could _just_ blame Odin and Atreus.
As sad as this is, you gotta see the teamwork Kratos, Atreus and Freyr did. He looked at Atreus before throwing the mask, signifying on what he's about to do and the way Kratos just showed pure skill by perfectly sphering the mask out of Odin's hand AS HE DISSAPEARS. I love these characters.
I just realised that the answer to Brok's riddle being a hole is bigger than I first thought because Sindri already had a hole in his heart from lying about his brother dying to him for many years and then the hole in his heart just got bigger when Brok was taken away from him "Gets bigger the more you take away"
To me thats the cherry on top of Brok's story and just what he would've wanted.
The actor that plays Sindri is so underrated. I am struggling to think of a more poinient acting performance, video game/movie/TV, anything. I think i've watched this ending about 30 times now, and i can't do it with a dry eye. I've played games for more that 30 years and this is the most a game has ever made me FEEL. Between the stella acting, the masterful composition, this imo is the greatest scene in gaming. Well done santa monica
Brok too, man he really brought an iconic character with his voice and loud mouthed, rude, but ultimately 100% honest personality. He's such an iconic unforgettable character, really brought the games so much flavour.
After this, Sindri absolutely drops his picture-perfect etiquette and becomes just like Brok; he doesn't have gloves, runs in to kill melee, and isn't considerate of anyone else. He claims he had this etiquette because a witch set him straight, but it's also because he wanted to show he had something to live for; he not only used his brains, but also his heart. Now he no longer cares, because the thing that fuelled his etiquette and love for his profession, his heart, is now broken, and no Dwarven magic will be able to repair it. His apathy will now be his form, and there'll be no telling if it will be his nature. Legendary storytelling.
After this, I used Draupnir as my main weapon. May every enemy slain bring him peace. May every tear closed and tortured soul laid to rest be in his memory. May his legendary skills echo through this realm and all those yet to be.
@@ghost4439 True….Odin did get his shit rocked by Kratos, Atreus and Freya, but his actual demise was swift and rather painless. However, Sindri basically obliterated Odin’s very essence. Which means he gets no afterlife or reincarnation. He’s GONE and had no way of coming back, and I think that’s fitting.
@@AfroXaolin2023 true, but it doesn't feel like it's enough. Guess it's true what they say, vengeance is great in the moment but afterwards you're left feeling empty. Nothing can heal that wound that's been placed on us by Odin, not even vengeance. It helps, but it's never 'enough'.
@@justadude7598 I hate to break it to you but Sigma males in reality do not do awful things at the detriment of others to achieve what they want if that's what you mean by anything or everything, you can be rest assured because I am one. We live to serve the realm and not ourselves. Odin, his very existence was to serve himself and himself alone. We do not seek any validation for who we are and what we live for, expect compensation of any kind for what we give, or take vain pride in the fruits of our positive actions. Sigma males are indeed humble creatures and we use wisdom to guide our every path, though sometimes our humanity (imperfections) fall into play. Yet we learn from those and improve upon our actions to create a positive impact. Odin, for the life of him did things for all the realms to see him for who he is, the All-father of all, the King of Asgard and in fact, all the realm, to obtain credit in the process, and therefore exalted himself obove all. If any should qualify for the position of a sigma in this game, it should be Kratos. As an observer, I have observed his character development ever since this new version of the game came out in 2018.
Dark theory, but... I feel like this will be the last we see of Sindri. Even if there is another game in a different setting, he seems broken- so much so that he can barely function. His armor is still stained with Brok's blood, he's emaciated, like he hasn't ate in days, and he can only walk unsteadily on his way out of the funeral. I believe he's going to find some hole to die in, or just starve himself from sheer grief. It's also notable that I think Brok probably wouldn't have wanted Sindri to distance himself from everyone else. It's incredibly tragic, the ending Sindri got.
@@rewmnog No dlc but definitely another saga (probably multiple) I don’t know if we’ll see Sindri again. His fate will be up to the viewer and he’ll probably live out his days in isolation and sadness.
@@rewmnog I hope we don’t actually. I love this ending. I love how it shows how not everyone gets a good ending. And if there is a new saga, I think that it should be an event that kratos or Atreus feel very guilty about.
This scene hits too close to home... I lost my Grandfather 2 years ago on Wednesday (November 9th). Feels like the game coming out that day is him saying hi... I never got to say goodbye to him. I couldn't hold the tears during this scene... A hole only gets bigger the more you take away...
Broks dying words hits hard. Saddest scene because everything felt so immersive knowing these characters through the first game and now. And my condolences
My grandfather died the morning of release of GoW, so the loss of him was especially fresh when I reached this part of the game. My condolences to you & your family.
The music that starts playing at 3:33 and 4:55 that Raeb (Bear McCreary's character) plays on the Hurdy Gurdy is "Raeb's Lament". It's such a powerful piece of music that really adds to these scenes.
The way Sindri becomes broken. To think, This could have been Freya at some point. Sure she was emotionally broken after Bauldr died, but she didn't get reduced to Sindri's level. It's heartbreaking when a friend becomes so broken that they become detached from everyone.
The only difference being that Sindri actually got his revenge on Odin for killing Brok, while Freya forgives Kratos for killing Baldur, once again opening her heart to a new family, while Sindri permanently closes his heart to it
I'd say she did get similar to Sindiri. She just got out of it. For a time she was neglecting Charli despite how much she cared about him. She didn't care about much either when she was in that state. I think Sindri will get better from it. Just takes time.
I like the details in Sindris designs and movements that show his grief. Unlike before where he cared about staying clean, he’s instead covered in blood and is not wearing gloves. He also no longer cares about hiding his teleportation and does it in front of everyone
Adam John Harrington absolutely crushed in terms of acting and performance. Everyone did a stellar job with their performances in Ragnarok but Harrington’s descent into despair with Sindri’s grief was powerful. Mo-cap and the delivery of Sindri’s transformation is arguably one of the best performances I’ve seen in a narrative based game.
I wish the game let Kratos talk to Sindri about his own brother, about how he misses him and he understands the loss. And if he needs he'll always have a home with them. It's sad that despite multiple deaths happening at the end, everyone gets to walk away with a resolution. Freya lost her brother but he chose to do that and she acknowledges it. Thor died but his wife and daughter got rid of their biggest abuser Even the light/dark elf couple didn't lose each other. But Sindri? He loses everything, and we can't even help him. He's the only one who gets a sad ending.
8:31 good call back to brok's riddle. it also reflects on sindri's heart. the more he is reminded that brok has been taken away the bigger his sadness grows
Hugged my little brother after this scene. Faye's words will always be with me. Her words we're so we'll written and perfectly explain what sindri's going through.
As sad as this is, Sindri also had a role to play in this. He could’ve still reunited with Brok in the after life had he not done what he did when Brok died the first time. Also… during Ragnarok, when he told Atreus to shoot at that wall thingy to destroy it after combining with Thrud, I could genuinely feel that the man was really angry at Atreus the way he looked at him before walking out of frame. That look Is one I’ll never forget, also considering that he’s phobia for germs went away after Broks death.
Not really Brok's missing a piece of his soul (Direction) Best way to break it down is the segment in GoW 3 when kratos had his neck snapped. Form which is the being Mind which is sentience or awareness (when his soul looks around a bit before straight ahead, bein aware it's _somewhere_) Direction i.e. the player following the path the game set (in Brok's case if I had to assume, a vague-ish path to the afterlife) And Luck, which is kratos coming back to life via hope (stick with me) Now apply this with brok, when mimir said he's denied it. It means brok can't even if he wanted to reach for the afterlife without his soul being whole. In the sense I put it in, brok has no clue how to even make his way to the afterlife, let alone the light of alfheim. So brok at best is lost in limbo with no way of ever meeting sindri when his time comes. As for atreus, sindri is lashing out and overwhelmed with grief and a sleuth of emotions. He's acted with his heart, apathy and all and he blames atreus for going on to stop ragnarök and brought trouble his way along with kratos who did nothing but follow atreus' lead to the end instead of pulling the reigns in. He blames them both and holds no responsibility for his own actions. For starters, giving them the ability to travel between the realms again. Keeping the fact that brok wasn't whole, and was the other half responsible for the giants near extinction (and being contempt of the giants and framing it like the dwarves are fixin the problem, when he's using a giants flaw to even get into Gladshein, the city behind the walls) Sindri is understandably angry since atreus just didn't know when to stop and Kratos doing little. But Sindri truly shoulders a heavy amount of blame both for keeping the truth from brok (and ignoring his final words) and being the catalyst that denied brok his way to the afterlife. And he knows it since in the funeral, his face shows that deep down he has no one to blame but himself but his guilt and scornful hatred denies him from wanting to forgive them both (similar to freya when she loss baldur). He's broken not only cause he can never see his brother again in death, but that he done nothing to stop it from transpiring either by lack of foresight or his fear of brok knowing what happened to him.
Theres no reason this game wouldnt win game of the year. All of the emotions this game packs alone makes it goated. Brok and Sindri were the best characters ever introduced into this series and seeing broks death through my gameplay had me in tears man
That intense silent glare Sindri gave Kratos after he pulled away from him, when the latter tried to comfort him after the funeral, shows that Sindri's path to finding peace may possibly be unattainable. This could set him down a dangerous and destructive path. Makes me think of Baulder for some reason. Different circumstances, but same path of pain.
I actually saw more of a similarity to Freya's situation. Both of them made (understandable but selfish) snap decisions that ultimately changed their loved ones' lives for the worse. Both of them blamed other people for an unfortunate turn of events that ended in the deaths of their loved ones-- events that no one had any control over. Only time will tell if Sindri will be able to move on from Brok's death in the same way that Freya moved on from Baldur's.
I really appreciate how they gave Brok a proper sendoff rather than just have his body show up in that later cutscene with Sindri. Really shows how fleshed out this world is, and how Brock’s loss affected them all. Also, after rewatching the entire scene, I personally found it interesting that Sindri didn’t insult Kratos, only giving him the quick aggressive stance, but soon quickly stopping and walking off. I think this scene showed that while Sindri is still painfully grieving, he knows fighting won’t bring Brok back, especially after killing Odin. I think he knows that Kratos and others are trying to make an effort to rekindle a hopeful relationship with Sindri, but he needs more time for his grief. Rip Brok.
For those wondering what Mimir is talking about at the end there. It's not just the hole and Sindri's heart. Brok had a riddle earlier in the game that even the Mimir figure out and it took this for him to get it... 😔
Think about it Brok had "The Smartest Man Alive"baffled throughout the game with that riddle and Mimir never got to say the answer to him. Brok you will forever be remembered.
7:57 God this bit stands out to me so much. Sindri was ALWAYS scared of Kratos and flinched in his presence. Here we see how that anger and grief changed him because he is now standing up to Kratos and staring him down. I hate seeing such a kind and endearing character become so consumed by his grief, it's a heartbreaking to watch.
I have such empathy for sindri. I would more likely than not be the same way he was if I lost my brother and after watching this scene a month ago, I've been trying to spend more time with him. I don't know how much time either of us have on this earth but I hope the time we do spend together will be cherished memories for either of us should our time come. Anyway good health, good fortune, good luck, and good vibes to anyone who happens to read this
The way Sindri looks physically in the scene where he's holding Brok compared to the scene where he's at the funeral perfectly symbolizes what loss does to someone. It not only breaks their soul but it breaks them mentally to where they just don't care anymore. The man looks like he aged 100 years in less than a day.
It’s a subtle detail but I love how sindri is covered in blood and filth from the war it’s really quite sad knowing how loss can you make you not care of anything else that you previously cared for
These scenes still hit me the same as if it were the 1st play through. It can’t be helped to feel the grief of the Huldra brothers. This game really encapsulates just how much heart and soul the actors put into these scenes 😭😭😭
Sindri was so broken he couldn't care less how much of an absolute mess he looked. He still has his brother's blood on him. I hope that eventually he'll find it in his heart to let go and forgive them, even himself, just as Freya did.
Sindri has gone through four of the five stages of grief. Denial: He cant.... You can't Bargaining: Maybe if I go back to the lake-- Anger: blaming Atreus and Kratos, and killing Odin. Depression: the funeral. Now, he just needs acceptance.
After beating this game, I was heartbroken by what happened to Brok and Sindri. I love those two characters and seeing them like this just adds salt to the wound. Poor Sindri, A kind and clean-loving Dwarf, polishes my axe of blood stains, to a broken mess. And I don't blame him for acting this way at everyone after playing through the game. I hope he comes back in the next GOW game (if there is one next).
"Brok was--" "I don't want to hear it. I still can't accept it. Not like you all can. Even now, even with Odin gone...just leave me be. I can't stand to be around anyone...not even myself."
God of War (2018) had its own goosebump giving scenes! But in this part of God of War Ragnarok, the scene of entering into the section where norns lived and their conversation with Kratos and Freya as well this ending scene of Broke's funeral is out of this world! If there was any Oscar for cutscene of the video games, this would have won it undoubtedly! The background music, the graphics, the emotions all pitch perfect!
Kratos in my little what if conversation “I know, what you are feeling Sindri, I know your pain, I too lost my brother to a god obsessed with prophecy, I didn’t know what to do. He was my only family left. And the gods took him from me too, but he died as he lived. A true spartan, a warrior, and he died fighting against prophecy beside his brother. Brok died as he lived, a brother, a true friend, and a blacksmith like no other with conviction and heart stronger then the weapons he forges, and with his brother beside him, and with no regrets, that is how we remember Brok, not for how he died but for how he lived”
It's even more heartbreaking, and so ap for the moment, that mimir solves brok's riddle at his funeral. A hole...what Sindri feels, as more is taken away.
I can't help it but to notice that Brock left without knowing the origins of the Blades of Chaos which he wanted so much to learn but Kratos always refused to tell
Sindri can go to ANY realm absolutely unnoticed in an INSTANT. Has the ability to make or destroy just about any in the 8 Realms. Has knowledge about secrets most don’t and is now unhinged with a possible hate for the gods like Kratos once had along with a strong hate for himself knowing it’s his fault Brok doesn’t have an afterlife. I love Sindri and hope he finds peace… but I KNOW he is the most dangerous being in all the realms as of right now. Kratos having the same responsibility to lead these realms means that he and Zeus may now have more in common than ever before.
Christopher Judge definetly deserved winning an award for his performance. But Sindri's actor should have gotten some recognition as well. He nailed his emotional turmoil. Incredibly powerful and tangible performance.

@@tranvinhnhat1289 Well said, brother

@@dannyyoroi1955 totally agree
I love that the riddle they chose reflects sindris personal grief right now. "What gets bigger the more you take away?". he feels empty, or has a "hole" in his heart, but chooses to close himself, or "take away" the found family he has which will only make his grief worse or, "make the hole bigger". Absolutely masterful writing
Man that part where mimir realizes the answer.. the feels...

He will be healed in time. His behaviour is normal for someone who had just lost someone he loved all too well.
His armor on his chest is actually broks dried blood
You can also notice that his gloves are specifically missing from his armor.
He changed his forging style to be like Brok. He feels the metal with his hands, swings his hammer with more force, and doesn’t worry about cleanliness anymore. It’s a way to honor his memory.
@th3ra83 Some people never get over it. However, it would be a good side story to see him overcome his grief.
"Stop it.
I know what you did.
And I forgives ya.
But y'gotta stop.
Y'gotta let go."
That's his mistake, he held on knowing he'd lose him one day.

Brokk wants him to be free, but Sindri has never known a world without him.
he doesn’t want to blame, he already does blame them, he just doesn’t care anymore and just wants to be alone, the whole game is about how fate shouldn’t defy your choices, Kratos killed Heimdall to keep Atreus safe and not because of the prophecy, prophecy also said that it was Tyr that would them against Odin, we know how that went, also in giant panels in Jotunheim it was prophesied that Kratos would die and Atreus goes to Odin, though technically that happened since Thor killed and revived him, hell even at the end you get the Fate Breaker armor, fate didn’t kill Brok, Odin did, also Sindri wore the gloves and was germphobic because of the souls that was dragging him in the lake of souls when he saved Brok, he stopped wearing the gloves because he doesn’t care anymore, all that it mattered in his life was Brok, his only family and now he is gone

The saddest part is that, because Brok is missing a part of his soul, his soul can’t reach the light of Alfheim and he is forever stuck wandering without an afterlife. I really, REALLY hope we have a quest in the next game where we find the missing piece of his soul and help him find peace. I wouldn't say detail, I mean it is his brother dying so I suppose out of respect they stepped back or in shock they stepped back. But yeah I agree it was a very sad moment with just the two of them
It's also the same music as his funeral.
Like we are watching a live performance at the theatre
@@A1Gz_This game was very play-like. Especially the scene with the fates.
@A1Bangz couldn't say better...
That last line from Mimir is too good. Incredible setup, I had totally forgotten about the riddle at that point
The worst thing about this is since brok was resurrected, the way they did only 3/4 bits of his souls survived so he can’t go to an afterlife he’s stuck in limbo and there’s nothing we can do
Is this said in after dialogue or something?
@@NoirRaven its said when Atreus asks Kratos if theres something they could do to bring Brok back.
I just realised that the answer to Brok's riddle being a hole is bigger than I first thought because Sindri already had a hole in his heart from lying about his brother dying to him for many years and then the hole in his heart just got bigger when Brok was taken away from him
"Gets bigger the more you take away"
It also seems to me they set up the perfect little quip for the very end of Brok's story.
when Kratos goes to tell Sindri something he says, "Brok was.." then he is cut off it then picks up with Mimir saying, "A hole" or asshole, like how most people in lore would refer to him jokingly or not. To me thats the cherry on top of Brok's story and just what he would've wanted.
That riddle Brok came up with is about him and Sindri.
Also Mimirs original answer of love getting bigger when taken away fits because his love for Brok only grew once he passed away.
Hearing Mimir solving the riddle and seeing Sindri suffer from his loss, really made this moment much more sadder for me.
NO ITS FUNNY CAUSE BROK WAS ALSO KIND OF AN AHOLE
After this, I used Draupnir as my main weapon.
May every enemy slain bring him peace.
May every tear closed and tortured soul laid to rest be in his memory.
May his legendary skills echo through this realm and all those yet to be.

Neither Sindri nor Brok deserved this
That’s why Odin got what he deserved in the the final fight.
@@AfroXaolin2023 I still think he got of easy after all the dastardly things he's done
@@AfroXaolin2023 yea since im pretty sure brok is getting the same treatment since you know not having a soul and all

Well, Odin just surpassed Zeus in hatred for this series.
Zeus kinda had an excuse for being awful with the evils of Pandora's Box. Well, more awful than usual. Odin is just terrible because that's who he is
Odin is the real Sigma Male, will do literally anything to achieve his goal
@@justadude7598 point taken but for me that's just being greedy
@@SimonPetrikov12 zeus did shit even before the evils of pandora box got released
Brook is the first character who doesn't try to kill kratos. Seeing him go like this put me in tears
I really hope at least theres dlc or another full game where you play as atreus and help sindri move past his grief
Sindri did not deserve this. He was such a kind soul and Brok was awesome.
Mad respect to everyone here and those who stayed after the game to be at this funeral the likes show how much we all loved Brook you will be missed 😢
Yeap, I was basically done after the last mission. Can't be bothered finishing the quests and what not. But I had to go to Brok's funeral.
I’m sorry for your loss man…. Now a part of me is going to feel sad remembering that even on my birthday people are dying and others are mourning.
My grandfather died the morning of release of GoW, so the loss of him was especially fresh when I reached this part of the game. My condolences to you & your family.
Rest in Peace ❤️
RIP
I had chills hearing the score during the funeral scene and still do.
The music that starts playing at 3:33 and 4:55 that Raeb (Bear McCreary's character) plays on the Hurdy Gurdy is "Raeb's Lament". It's such a powerful piece of music that really adds to these scenes.
It's heartbreaking, honestly, especially hearing a more light-hearted take on this melody earlier in the game, in "Huldra Brothers".
That songs my favorite in the whole series because it hits the hardest
Low key want it played at my funeral
@@imchase7796 wouldn't blame you!.. I also couldn't cuz you'd be dead 🥸👍🏽
Raeb's backwards also means Bears Lament - pertaining to Kratos as the Bear of the story, 😭
This scene shattered me. I loved Brok and Sindri's humor and comedic relief, seeing this tore my heart in two and cemented Odin as a coward.
OMG BROK WAS ALSO KIND OF A HOLE
@@kinbolluck476 Unfunny joke you got there, bro
The way Sindri becomes broken. To think, This could have been Freya at some point. Sure she was emotionally broken after Bauldr died, but she didn't get reduced to Sindri's level. It's heartbreaking when a friend becomes so broken that they become detached from everyone.
Not could have been Freya it WAS Freya at the end of the 2018 game and the start of this one.
The only difference being that Sindri actually got his revenge on Odin for killing Brok, while Freya forgives Kratos for killing Baldur, once again opening her heart to a new family, while Sindri permanently closes his heart to it
@@AfroHayot sindri pretty much became Kratos at the end of GoW3.
The song at broks funeral is mesmerizing I love it
Hurdygurdies have this indescribable whimsy to that that can hardly be put unto words. Mesmerizing is definitely one of them.
It's called Raeb's Lament
i like the little touch of kratos' breathing showing he is clearly torn up about the tragedy despite remaining stoic.
It just goes to show that your life isn’t just you, it’s all those you were intertwined with who you loved and who loved you.
Kratos was the one who respected Brok the most, even if he doesn’t cry, you can see the pain in his face when he tries to comfort Sindri
I wish the game let Kratos talk to Sindri about his own brother, about how he misses him and he understands the loss.
And if he needs he'll always have a home with them. It's sad that despite multiple deaths happening at the end, everyone
gets to walk away with a resolution.
Freya lost her brother but he chose to do that and she acknowledges it.
Thor died but his wife and daughter got rid of their biggest abuser
Even the light/dark elf couple didn't lose each other.
But Sindri? He loses everything, and we can't even help him. He's the only one who gets a sad ending.
As someone who lost a brother, the death and especially the funeral really hits me hard. Still get teary eyed even now as I write this
My condolences 🙏🏽

Gotta love Brok, he knew something was up from the start.
Sindri is in deep grief and pain right now, he needs time to find himself and forgive those around him and himself, like Freya...like Kratos once did.
"To grieve deeply.....is to have loved fully" - Faye
I'll never forget those words. Hit too close to home.
8:31 good call back to brok's riddle. it also reflects on sindri's heart. the more he is reminded that brok has been taken away the bigger his sadness grows
"i have met many on my travels, you are one of the few i would call "friend" " From the god of war, that was a perfect dialogue
Hugged my little brother after this scene. Faye's words will always be with me. Her words we're so we'll written and perfectly explain what sindri's going through.
That resolution at the end for Brok's riddle was very well placed.
Not really
Brok's missing a piece of his soul (Direction)
Best way to break it down is the segment in GoW 3 when kratos had his neck snapped.
Form which is the being
Mind which is sentience or awareness (when his soul looks around a bit before straight ahead, bein aware it's _somewhere_)
Direction i.e. the player following the path the game set (in Brok's case if I had to assume, a vague-ish path to the afterlife)
And Luck, which is kratos coming back to life via hope (stick with me)
Now apply this with brok, when mimir said he's denied it.
Keeping the fact that brok wasn't whole, and was the other half responsible for the giants near extinction (and being contempt of the giants and framing it like the dwarves are fixin the problem, when he's using a giants flaw to even get into Gladshein, the city behind the walls)
Sindri is understandably angry since atreus just didn't know when to stop and Kratos doing little.
You can’t fix what’s broken. There’s always going to be some bitter part blaming everything for taking what you live away. I’m sorry to say it.
It's anger at himself directed outwardly. He denied Brok an afterlife because he was selfish, and now he has to live with that.
Not really, he looked hostile initially but later neutralised to see the same pain in kratos’ eyes
I don't think he'll become a villain, but it's true that he'll never find peace.
It’s a subtle detail but I love how sindri is covered in blood and filth from the war it’s really quite sad knowing how loss can you make you not care of anything else that you previously cared for
He's already covered in blood and dirt when you meet him in the temple. That's not from Ragnarök, that's Broks blood.
These scenes still hit me the same as if it were the 1st play through. It can’t be helped to feel the grief of the Huldra brothers. This game really encapsulates just how much heart and soul the actors put into these scenes 😭😭😭
Does anybody else realize that the "hole" that gets bigger is sindri as Atreus and Kratos just took more from him, it's kind of poetic actually
"I have met many on my travels. But you are one of the few I'd call friend."
When the funny character no longer makes you laugh but makes you cry. Its so heartbreaking
“Same things that make us laugh, make us cry”- Big Smoke
It was such an incredible character arc.
Reminds me of Maes Hughes from fma
Sindri was so broken he couldn't care less how much of an absolute mess he looked. He still has his brother's blood on him. I hope that eventually he'll find it in his heart to let go and forgive them, even himself, just as Freya did.
I love the detail of the fire light on Sindri's face at 7:50, it shows that a part of him is burning along with Brok
8:01 Wow what a powerful stare down you can tell kratos said a lot with that look especially since he understands his pain more than anyone.
Deimos
His wife & daughter
His loyal spartan soldier and Orkos
The boat captain
His mother and his entire homeland
"I love you Brok" got me. Immediately teared up.
RIP Brok.
Sindri has gone through four of the five stages of grief.
Denial: He cant.... You can't
Bargaining: Maybe if I go back to the lake--
Anger: blaming Atreus and Kratos, and killing Odin.
"Brok was--"
"I don't want to hear it.
His death gets much worse once you hear the conversation about his soul never reaching afterlife.
"To grieve deeply is to have loved fully"
6:30 This is such a subtle, yet touching detail to me. Kratos takes mimirs head off his belt buckle. To give him one last look at brok.
At 8:00 Sindri isn’t timid or scared anymore of Kratos, just broken
As far as he's concerned he's lost everything that mattered. He has nothing left to fear.
And just like that, Sindri was never the same again
The voice actor for sindri crushed it in this game. "I love you Brok" fuckin broke me. Sounded so genuine and hard to say.
Kratos in my little what if conversation
“I know, what you are feeling Sindri, I know your pain, I too lost my brother to a god obsessed with prophecy, I didn’t know what to do.
Except for one bit. Zeus is infected by the evil fear from the events of the original game
Christopher Judge definetly deserved winning an award for his performance. But Sindri's actor should have gotten some recognition as well. He nailed his emotional turmoil. Incredibly powerful and tangible performance.
I cried so hard when Sindri said “I love you.” He was my favourite character, and I hated losing him. 😢
