Desert Seas

- Along the east and west coasts of Saudi Arabia are two seas that contain a treasure of marine life that few knew existed -- and even fewer had ever seen. The Arabian Gulf was formed at the end of the last Ice Age, some 10,000 years ago, and the Red Sea's history goes back even further. And now, thanks to Saudi Aramco, for the first time millions of viewers across the globe are able to marvel and see up close the exotic marine life that populates these two bodies of water. Saudi Aramco teamed up with award winning British documentary makers Icon Films to produce Desert Seas, a 60 minute natural history production that took more than a year to produce. The film's objective was clear: to expose the world to the wondrous subsurface realms of the Kingdom's waters.
We never get enough nature documentaries from this particular area for obvious reasons. I learned so much from this one.
Clicked on the video then I heard David Attenborough and I was very happy.
And I, on the other hand was very pissed off.
’’Half the reefs worldwide are dying or have died. The cause: pollution and the changing climate with warmer seas!”
David Attenborough
"AIthough extinction is a naturaI phenomenon, it occurs at a natural “background” rate of about one to five species per year. Scientists estimate we're now Iosing species at 1,000 to 10,000 times the background rate, with IiteraIIy dozens going extinct every day. lt could be a scary future indeed, with as many as 30 to 50 percent of all species possibly heading toward extinction by mid-century."

Who's watching all the nature videos like this during quarantine?
Weird, this video is by "ARAMCO," the largest company in the world. The Saudi Arabian national company that sells oil to its vital ally, the USA (every time Saudi Arabia, the most powerful nation in the Middle East, wants something quelled, it asks America to come do it for them, like when Saddam Hussein sent Iraqi army to invade and pillage Kuwait in 1990 as revenge for making him fail his invasion into Iran by pulling Kuwaitian oil-money support midway during the long Iraq-Iran war that lasted between 1980 to 1988)

That's the best documentary scripting and voicing there is on the planet. David Attenborough.
Slightly amazed no one has pointed out that this is a PR piece from Aramco - one of the biggest oil companies in the world.
What I have watched so far seems excellent but I had my fingers crossed hoping not to see coral bleaching. I hope that is addressed later on. Oil -> CO2 -> sea temperature rise -> coral bleaching.
Actually it's the methane gas emitting from the excessive amount livestock/agriculture... I'm not one for conspiracy but the COWSPIRACY documentary was pretty hard to ignore...
Coral bleaching happens when a reef gets hotter too fast. But in the Persian Gulf, there are species of coral adapted to hot, very salty water. It's a matter of time, and evolutionary pressure, but eventually the areas of bleached coral will be repopulated naturally. Or the process could even be helped along by transplanting suitable kinds into place (although that might not be the best thing to do).
Fortunately, there is basically zero global warming, and CO2 is necessary for life, leading to greater yields of crops. :)
