Kilts for Goths & Steampunks? How can you add a traditional kilt to subculture fashion?

We were asked…
“I know you all covered monochrome outfit stylings before, however I use some advice on a low key "Goth" vibe outfit. I'm thinking Black Shadow kilt, black waistcoat and jacket as the base. Probably a black shirt too. The "splash of color" is what I'm debating. Should the contrasting accessories be as simple as a tie and flashes, more prominent such as the shirt and hose, or all black with the shirt being the only contrasting color?”

“What would be a good tartan for a steampunk look? And are there any other highland wear or accessories to go with a steampunk look?”
