Going to pull the pin on one over here in Oz. Had a couple of years out of water because of back problems and been riding mid lengths last 18 months. Want to go smaller. I’m 63, 5’ 10 and 81 kg. I’m thinking of the 6’ just to keep the volume up, as I need the paddle power. 🤔
So funny, you did almost the exact same thing I did. I got a 5'11 Firewire Baked Potato (also Helium construction), and absolutely fell in love with it. It's loose, lively, paddles great, and catches pretty much anything. After having the baked potato I went and bought a 5'6 Tomo Evo (Helium) which has about 33-34L. Haven't surfed it yet but I look forward to trying it out. I swear the helium tech adds 5L of volume to the board because it blew me away how well these boards paddle, it almost feels like I'm cheating. I think the written volume on the board is calculated from the boards dimensions but doesn't take into account the construction of the board, who knows. I surf at a spot that's pretty much considered a longboarding spot since the waves are mushy, so it's always hi larious when I have priority paddling for a wave and someone in front of me doesn't think I'll catch it because I'm on a shortboard but end up catching it with no issue.
I bought the table on 5'11 this Friday. Can’t wait to take it to the sea!! I’m 38 years old also beginner, instead of a longboard I decided for the seaside!! I hope I can stand up!! I was 3 years trying to paddle against current and didn’t stand up with a Patterson 6’1 with 20 liters a real rocket, as if I were Italo Ferreira!! Good review I hope the board help me!! Regards from Caracas Venezuela!!
I'm 51 this year and have the 5'3 seaside. I'm only 5'8 and 150lb though. I had a middle plug put in mine to try as a twin + trailer or thruster but it definitely feels happier as a quad. Although the 2+1 fanning twins went well in the wave pool. Fin wise, the Machado fins seemed a bit big for my weight so I run JW med in the front and carver small rears. But your right, its a comfortable board when you ain't the best paddler.
amazing that you ride the 5'3, i am 145 lbs and almost 49, i can get a hold of a 5'5 seaside, do you think that would hinder manueverability as it is a bit on the big side, volume wise i use shortboards between 26-29 litres, but my paddling is not getting better with age hehe
Great review cheers! I'm a novice surfer, currently on a 6'8" 54L board but considering a change to something more manoeuvrable/skatey. Would it be a good move switching to this board at my current skill level or best to hold off till I'm a solid intermediate? cheers
If you know how to pump down the line and ride a wave all the way through, then this is a great board to grab. I wouldn’t say this board is skatey though. It glides in typical fish style. Hope that helps
You’re like my surf twin. Same height, same weight, but I just turned 50. Have you ever tried a Puddle Jumper? I just busted mine, but it was really fun. It caught waves easily, turned well, etc. Btw- when it gets choppy, I prefer to be on PU. How would you say the Seaside handles choppy conditions? Thanks for the vid.
Never tried the puddle jumper. I like the shape tho. The seaside is pretty good for all conditions. I did struggle on steep sections with the seaside but it might’ve been user error and not the board. 😜
Thanks for sharing man! Hey I am about your age, but what is your weight and height? I am seriously thinking on getting one, and i am thinking about the volume. I was thinking 35 liters or so.
Just like you in my 40’s and need as much help I can get with paddle power. After a 13 year break from surfing I’m picking it back up again and feel like I’m starting all over. I’m thinking of getting the seaside, I’m 5’8 177 lbs. and moderately fit. I’m riding between a 7’6” long fish funboard and a 6’2” sweet potato that is 52 L. Recommendations on size?
Thanks for subscribing. We are about the same size. To be safe I would go with the 6’0 seaside. Maybe 5’11 might work also but if you’ve never ridden a board in the 5 foot range, the 6’0 is a safe bet. Hope that helps.
Hey man I’m a a beginner (2 years or so). Riding on a 6’6 graham smith (around 44.5 litres). For year + I’m 1.80cm and around 67/68 kg. And wannna progress to something more small and maneuvery. Wondering what size should i take take the seaside
Thanks for watching. It was challenging on bigger days but for the most part it was not a problem to duck dive. All depends on your weight and strength.
I'm 67 and ride a 5 4 rnf poly and a 5 4 cymantic. Also have a 5 6 dominator 2. 40 is way too young to be riding boards with more liters unless your abilities aren't good enough for a normal every day high performance short board.
I have 5’10” retro fish. 36l. I luv it. Catch everything. I also have 6’ shortboard. Had hard time catching waves and felt slow. Can I catch overhead with this seaside 5’10” fatter waves?
I’m floating 81\82 kg, so 180 lb(I guess). I’m coming off a mid length of 52ltrs, so I’m thinking I need the 6’ to keep my volume up. At least for a while.
I'm in my 50's, still works
Awesome! I’m right behind you and will be joining the 50’s ranks in a few years. Keep shredding in your 50’s
Nice!! Almost 40 and I have the 5'8 and 5'9 Seaside also. Love them bro, all the way from NZ 🤙
It really is the best board I’ve ever ridden. 🤙🏾

You got a cool firewrire quiver.🤙🏾. Yea my seaside is pretty much my longboard as well. It catches anything and loves the mushy spots.
All that seaweed had me thinking I knew where you must be at, cliffs confirmed it.
Always love the hook to crowded tho
Awesome review. Well done 👍
Go get your seaside. 🤙🏾

I’m pretty confident you will have a better experience on the seaside. 5’11 is a wave catching machine 🔥

Getting close to 40 and ride a 5'7 and 5'6....and on days when you'd grab a LB I grab a SS&B :)
Seaside beyond looks 🔥. I just can’t afford one 😩

@@surfininmy40s OK great thanks mate appreciate the help! 👍
Can you ride any quad setup on this and would it work well since it’s out of stock at my store
I’ve seen people put other fins on the seaside. For myself I’ve never used anything but the Machado quad fins and they work amazing 🤩

How well can you ride the 6’6? I would get the biggest seaside and work your way down. I think it comes in a 6’1.
@@surfininmy40s
I’m catching wave pretty easily.
I thought actually to take 5’9/5’8…
And own some good 7’ semi softop for the small small days.
@@TheSheetrit I ride a 5’10 but that’s just me. Try the 5’8 if you like 👍 but that’s a big drop from a 6’6 to a 5’8
beautiful surfboards .. 33 liters?
The 5’8 is 35L
Helpful video🤙 Are you to duck dive the 5’11?
Thanks for watching. It was challenging on bigger days but for the most part it was not a problem to duck dive. All depends on your weight and strength.
Would u recommend this board to an intermediate surfer that’s used to riding a 9’0” and a 7’0” ?
I would say yes 👍. Seaside could work but I’d go with the 6’0 length 🤙🏾
This is ageism! I’m 56 rippin on my Seaside😁!
So awesome. 🤙🏾🤩. I hope to be doing the same. Sadly had to sell my seaside but hope to get another soon

I have 5’10” retro fish. 36l. I luv it. Catch everything. I also have 6’ shortboard. Had hard time catching waves and felt slow. Can I catch overhead with this seaside 5’10” fatter waves?
I found that you can catch an over head mushy wave on it but if it’s steep and punchy the rail tends to catch a lot because of the width.
@@surfininmy40s is it easy to catch fatter waves
@@Soloriderpowder yes definitely
@@surfininmy40s how tall and how much weight
