The Temple of Doom being my favorite Indiana Jones film, I was devastated when I heard the rumors (now facts) that they were cancelling the set. The Mola Ram minifigure was gonna look spot on to how it did in the Lego game, and I was so excited to add him to my collection, but I sadly never will. Thank you for making this video.

Truly… it was the set from the new Indy line I was looking forward to the most so I’ve never been more disappointed in a set being cancelled. I’m gonna have to build this MOC to the go with the other3 new sets.
I lost my original ToD set and the Mola Ram head and headdress to the bin years ago but otherwise I still have all the figures. I was really looking forward to adding more thuggees to my modest pair, especially that Maharaja fig.

Assuming they choose not to re-explore this particular set for whatever reasons (and I can only speculate on what they are), I do hope TLG does return to Temple of Doom perhaps with say a rope bridge set or maybe a new version of the Club Obi Wan car chase.
Honestly think it was Disney and not Lego. The simple fact is that other toys that came out for the new film also had canceled temple of doom things
@@thegreatpiginthesky3904 I hope Disney is not trying to erase Temple of Doom. I really don't trust Disney, much like I don't trust corporate monopolies and monoculturalism in general. Anyone who is *genuinely* of the left, as I am, should not welcome Disney's approach. One can, and arguably should, criticise films like Temple of Doom for some of their outdated values, but they exist and it's not right for the company that purchased these films (but didn't actually make them) to now seek to effectively erase them out of cultural embarrassment.
I'm not sure who it comes from, but it's probably best to avoid making too many toys from a movie absolutely teeming with racist caricatures

Why are you even commenting on this video if you hate the film so much, you sanctimonious bore? Hasbro already makes toys based on the set. The film continues to be shown on TV on supposedly 'woke' channels like Channel 4 and BBC1, so what's the issue with TLG making toys out of them? Maybe TLG shouldnt make a set based on Snow White cos it causes offence to dwarves, or "Friends" cos is causes offence to trans people, or "Seinfeld" cos Michael Richards shouted racist words during a stand-up gig at a heckler, or Home Alone cos Trump was in the sequel and in the first film a kid commits all sorts of abuses towards a pair of working-class criminals, or Raiders cos it features white men playing Egyptian and South American characters etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc. See where I'm coming from? You wanna ban one thing cos it offends *you* we can all play that fucking stupid game and ban *everything* that causes 'offence' until we're left with nothing. I’m pretty sure it had to do with the heart scene from the movie. Because that scene literally made the PG 13 raiting. Or it was because of the India stereotypes they showed in the movie. Great film though it’s one of my favourites

Based on the one image we got I honestly wasn't a big fan of the design. Still very sad that it was cancelled. However seeing it in full physical form completely changes my mind on it. I would have loved it

Thank you for that photo. I love the minifigs. I don't know whether I would have bought the entire set, but I would have liked to have gotten my hands on those particular minifigs via the secondary market.

Probably because the structure that the set is based on depicts the major Hindu goddess Kali and appropriates her image to have a scary black magic human sacrificial cult for a movie that was not directed, written, nor produced by a Hindu nor an Indian.

@@fuzzbutt_averyCouldn’t they just have hired a Hindu to release the set? If a lack of a Hindu working on the film dictated that it wasn’t okay, as opposed to the content in and of itself, getting a Hindu to work on the model (can’t be hard, Lego is a big company) would make it okay.
So the seemingly "official" reason is lego wanted to be sensitive to other cultures and were concerned the usage of Hindu imagery in the set would be offensive to people of that faith. However there are rumors that came out (from people claiming to work at lego) that it could also be a similar case to the Osprey set that was cancelled right before it was supposed to release, where the set had a serious design flaw that wasn't picked up on until it was too late, forcing lego to cancel it

Great review! What minifigs did you use? Your amazing review convinced me to buy the MOC and will be ordering the parts shortly! I love the Indiana Jones theme and wish that we had gotten more waves.
I used Mola ram, Indiana jones, and the Temple guard from the of temple of doom set (7199) the short round is a custom figure that i made myself and the Willie Scott is also a custom using the torso and head piece from Willie Scott

Im just guessing its too violent of a setting for it to be a lego set. And yea that may seem trivial if we got the Mustafar-based lego star wars sets, but theres a difference between that and human sacrifice

I'm still puzzled as to why we haven’t gotten any sets from the 5th movie yet. Hopefully we do at some point, along with more sets from the other films, and maybe even a Young Indy set... but that's just wishful thinking at this point.
They probably won't, considering it bombed at the box office. Most likely.
Because the movie was terrible. Who would buy it? Besides what sets could you even make based on the movie? Not many scenes I can think of that would work for a good set.
@abov_snakes Well that's a very subjective statement. Not many people liked the 4th movie, and yet we got tons of sets from that one when the movie came out. It doesn’t make sense why they wouldn't make at least one set for the 5th one.

Honestly while the set is definitely great, i feel like its the weakest one for me, other sets managed to be way more accurate to the movies while implementing play features, here i feel like they sacrificed a lot of the accuracy

Gotta be honest, this was such a disappointing theme compared to 2008/2009. Only two movies got representation and there were literally no sets for the new movie. No matter your opinions on it, they should've given at least a few builds featuring the new characters.

It was cancelled because Disney decided it was racist.
They said they would review it. Anyways, it was considered too offensive.
Lego said that the set wasn't stable so that's why they canceled it. Goofy reason but that's why they canceled it.
