Well said Time Teller. I love Tudors, but not a fan of G-shocks. My son loves G-shocks, so I purchased one for his 18th birthday as a gift. It is good that we all love different things, people need to calm down and respect our differences.

One of my best friends was enamored with a Vincero. Instead of pushing for him to get a better watch, I bought the Vincero for him. He’s not a watch guy like me so he doesn’t need something horologically significant, and it is an admittedly attractive watch. I’m just glad he’s willing to wear a watch at all!

I recently picked up an Orient President with the presidential bracelet and I'm sure many people think it's just a crummy ripoff of the Rolex Day-Date, but I think it's dope! I've been wearing it every day for the past week 😎

I had to google orient president as I’d never seen one,, it does look pretty cool, I’d definitely wear one.
It's a pretty pricey homage too. But it's an Orient so it should have no problem lasting your entire life.
Its the look you like, its a good watch and it didn't break the bank. I feel the same way about my Steeldive Willard, if people actually notice it, I get told "nice watch" the fact that it says Steeldive instead of Seiko bothers me not at all. I love the thing.

Arguably the build quality is probably on par with the reissue which kinda makes me wonder why people are still buying Seikos.
When I found out you didn't like my Dan Henry 1970, I fell into a deep depression that lasted for weeks. I also bought the blue 1970 so I definitely recovered. Also pineapple is great on pizza and only garbage people disagree.

I agree, back packing through Australia many years ago, we stopped in a small town, my girlfriend of the time asked for a vegetarian pizza and the toppings were carrots, peas and broccoli. She was expecting peppers, mushrooms and pineapple.. so yes, pineapple is great on pizza!!
And beetroot belongs on burgers people!!!
Pineapple cuts the grease. makes it much easier to digest.
I agree, but it has to be canned pineapple (Golden Circle). Fresh pineapple just doesn't do it. It goes well with the olives, anchovies and hot pepperoni.
This is my favorite watch channel by far, even though we have very different views on date windows (i.e. I don’t like anything that draws attention to the date, but I still use it; I’m happy without a date window). Point being, a person can disagree with you and still love your channel, which I do.

A watch is a tool. It serves a specific function. I bought a Casio G-Shock because it fits my needs. Probably the last watch I will ever own.
The fact that you had to make a video about this shows how far we have fallen as a society. As long as you like it, that's all that matters. Everyone is entitled to an opinion...and you know what they say about opinions. Great video.
Recently started buying watches again. 20 yrs ago Invicta watches were like 38mm if I remember correctly. Decent timepiece. Got compliments. This time around it's not just about function and automatics are really cool 😎.

I have found that age helps. I am getting up there and care less and less what others think about my life choices. I have a BMW for example with a stupidly large grill. Lots of people says it’s ugly, ugly, ugly! They may be right, but I love it. And I can’t see the damn huge grill from behind the wheel when I am hooning down a back road with an even bigger grin on my face.

I think the problem is , it’s like saying “I don’t like your shoes “as a kid ,for example.They take it as a personal criticism of their taste and can’t divorce that from their own personality, and I guess it’s kind of tied in , and people unfortunately haven’t grown up and take it personally.

Love my Casio W800H-1BV blackout. 10 BAR, day, date, month, year. Excellent green backlight. I couldn't recommend a better starter digital watch for those who are digi-phobic.

I agree. It is so personal and subjective- what I think and feel about my watches.. I can extremely enjoy and love and admire my 165$ piece as much as my 3500$.

I personally, like, and enjoy, the things that I do, because I know, and am comfortable with who I am as a person. I don't need others affirmations to make Me feel whole, or complete. Having said that, I do realize that not everyone is fortunate enough to be as comfortable in their own skin as I am. When I was going to buy my Tag Heuer I watched your videos realised you didn’t like them and went straight out and bought it because I loved the way it looked on my wrist and that’s the only thing that matters to me. I now watch hoping to see your negative comments towards Tag Heuer because they make me smile. In fact if it wasn’t for your opinions on them I probably wouldn’t have found your channel.
I have that Invicta! Just kidding. Spot on, Jory. I have viewers bash my watches in comments semi-regularly. I usually find some witty way to reply as I brush it off. I don’t care what others think of my watches, cheap or expensive, I enjoy them for what they are to me.

This is spot on. I see this in the audio side of things as well, but not as much. It seems like some folks put a lot of their self worth in items they purchase, but as you say, in the grand scheme of things this stuff doesn’t matter, it’s just a fun distraction.

Recently at work a female colleague had her birthday and we banded together to buy her a present. It turned out to be a wrist watch. It also turned out to be a fashion watch, way overpriced for the thing it was. I kept my mouth wisely shut, because non of them is a watch nerd. So she's happy, they are happy, and i enjoy my sapphire glass and eco drives.
Also, hearing a phrase "dumpster fire on the wrist" made me laugh so much i cried...

I think the problem is not so much about watches and more about a certain type of RUclips commenters who can make live for a RUclipsr quite frustrating. I think I remember an instance when (I believe it was) Jory said he could not recommend buying a certain watch brand (because he had no experience with it), and some people mistook it for him saying he recommends not buying that brand. It's frustrating if commenters blame a RUclipsr for something he didn't do, especially if the comment may keep people from actually watching the video. Even if Jory says "This watch is trashy" (I don't know if he did), it should be clear that does not mean the watch IS trashy, but merely that Jory THINKS that watch is trashy.
If Jory doesn't love all the watches I own, how else am I going to receive all the indirect external validation I so desperately need?

You could be interested by "Les Maximes de François De La Rochefoucauld". Discredit other people tastes, at least to him (my guess is that he's not alone), is far from being harmless. Fast forward, Pierre Bourdieu, a french sociologist, wrote quite a lot on what means preferences, likes and dislikes in regards to social status. Expressing a distaste or a rejection is never neutral, at least in a social perspective. You can think about it as a way to confirm your membership to a certain social class for instance

I think people take it personally because you're a very important influencer in the watch community and if you say something sucks, that will majorly influence the opinion of "the community" and the person with that watch can't be proud of it anymore, can't post photos of it without negative comments, etc. Some people get watches to at least partly get approval from others, to boost their self esteem. So if everyone now hates their watch, they wasted their money and they gotta get a different watch that you (and the people you influence) approve of. That's not your problem of course, and those people need to stop caring about the opinions of others, but that's how i see it works.
I watch to get different points of view. Keep giving those opinions. We need variety in life, keep up the excellent content.
