My experience with them had a similar feel. I did return a watch that was described as “new”. It was a Rolex OP 36 blue 3 6 9 dial. The winding action had a concerning unrolex feel to it. Not what I expected a Rolex to feel and sound like. Took it to a watch maker who said they could fix it but the watch was definitely not new. I had to get a return authorization from them to return it. After they received the watch they tried that same restocking fee tactic. They claimed I marked the case and sent me a grainy picture to “prove” it. They would wave the fee if I bought another watch. I had previously purchased a Tudor black bay 41 from them which seemingly went smooth. I reminded them of that and they ultimately did not charge me. The whole experience left a terrible taste in my mouth and I am now and forever done with them. Your story parallels my own experience with them.

I just had an unpleasant experience with these creeps today but in my case it was a bait-&-switch situation. I got the model watch I wanted but it's a pre-owned Rolex and quite pricey - $28,995, but the particular model year I wanted had a tiny difference in the dial from other years. No big deal, just a little quirk that's hard to see without a magnifying glass but they showed that exact watch on their website and to make certain, I emailed them and asked them to confirm it which they did. So I wired them the money (no credit cards above $10K) and got the watch overnight. Beautiful watch! Looks brand new! But it isn't the one with the tiny difference that I was looking for. So, I called them on it and their reply was that "the girl" who answered my email doesn't know what she's talking about and that the picture didn't show what I saw. So, I went back into my history and found the listing but now it has another watch of the same model for $2,000 more but this picture doesn't show the tiny quirk that I was expecting. So, I told them I wanted them to send me the watch I bought or I want a full refund. After all, they misrepresented it and won't stand behind their own employee's written word so why should I eat $2,899 for their sleaziness? Bottom line: stay away from AuthenticWatches because the only thing authentic about them is they are genuine slime buckets.

They screwed me over with the restocking fee last year. This was on a discontinued Seiko they said they had in stock. After the purchase it was no longer in stock and they would order it for me. They said it could take months for it to arrive which would have surpassed the return time allowed by my credit card so I asked for a refund. I was charged the restocking fee and disputed the charge. My card sided with them and allowed the restocking fee. I fought with them for weeks but it was never resolved in my favor. Apparently they are geared up to screw as many customers as they can so please don’t do business with them.

Meaning, if something fails to arrive, or is not as described, or fails and the seller refuses to resolve, then the CC company has to refund👍. I understand that they refund quite quickly too👍, however this means the seller may have to foot the bill for an unscrupulous buyer. 🤨

An additional layer of protection on ebay is a joke, that entire site is a hive of scammers and ebay is happy to let them scam.
one insanely common one ebay is well aware of but does nothing about is the the scam where people will mail a package iwth something with a similar weight to an address near you because they know usps shipping receipts only show area codes and cities, when you don't get your package they just show ebay the receipt that was never addressed to you i the first place and will side with the scammer.
I bought a seiko off ebay not too long ago, it said delivered, never got the package. When i went to the post office and opened a case they gave me all sorts of info, the weight and various other stuff. I asked the seller to provide me with the full shipping invoice receipt which WOULD have my address and he made a fake one with the wrong weight and wrong tracking number. I told him to show me the real invoice or i would dispute it. He stopped responding and opened a case with ebay claiming i was trying to scam him and showed them "proof" he sent the watch. When i attempted to start a dispute case they wouldn't let me and said he had already proved to them he sent me the watch and the case was closed. I disputed it with paypal and they just said "Ebay says he proved he sent it so you're denied.". I asked ebay to show me wha the sent them and showed them how he had sent me a fake invoice and they just said this case is closed and there's nothing i can do.
Meanwhile i got the watch bug again and was looking at old grand seikos on there just the other day and almost every single one was fake. What do you wanna wager that if you bought one of those very convincing fakes ebay wouldn't be able to tell or care that you got scammed.

Others have said this but contact your credit card company for sure. I work for Visa (here in Canada so the rules may be slightly different), but you can dispute this as item not received. The business will argue that they charge a 10% restocking fee so they are entitled to this, but their website clearly says different. I would ensure you take a screen shot of the website so you can show it to your credit card company if necessary. I would also start the dispute now so they can see the website showing the no restocking fee before it expires on Jan. 31. Any way you should be able to get all your money back. Even if they credit you back your money minus the 10% you can still dispute the 10%.

This sounds like fraud on their part and let them know you will tell your credit company the same

That seems like A LOT for a watch the was going for barely $3k a few years ago. So many better options at that price point.

I bought a Deep Blue Master 1000 a few years ago and last year the crown would no longer screw down. It was out of warranty, so I sent the watch in to have this fixed with repair estimate and return shipping cost (about $100) last March. I called for updates after about 60 days, then 90 or so…now they don’t even answer calls or emails! So unnecessary! They could have replaced the entire movement for half the repair cost (NH35)

Hey Jory! sorry if I am being a bit dense here, but they said the watch was in California, correct? Looks like they are a brick & mortar store. Did they never encouraged a face-to-face transaction? I feel like they are advertising a piece that they never had to begin with which I feel is a bad business move.

As others have said, you should dispute the charge with your credit card company. (You did pay with a credit card, right?) They will always side with the buyer in a case like this.

At UPS there is a very stringent policy for handling high value packages. They also track every delivery with GPS to make sure it gets to the right address. Might cost $17 more than the competition, but it's worth every penny.

I had a minor issue recently.
I'm a fan of oris watches I brought my first oris abut 3 years ago which was the green aquis and was interested in a the big crown pro pilot black and big crown bronze. So over the new year period i had a look and saw that the place I got my first oris had both in stock for a discounted price. I go ahead and order them both and waited for delivery. The big crown bronze arrived and was fine and a stunning watch, The big crown Pro pilot was delayed by a day which is no issue. However when I opened it I realised there was no protective stickers and no tag which both my other 2 oris watches arrived with I then check the watch over and released it was most likely a display piece as it hadn't been cleaned very well.

This watch is not available anymore so it’s a bit tough BUT if it’s still in production and you would like a new one PLEASE for the love of god buy from an authorized dealer. The savings going grey nowadays just isn’t all that significant anymore, if you have a relationship with an AD it’s even better as they will offer some sort of discount to close the gap. You’re buying an incredibly expensive watch, spend that few hundred bucks and get that quality brand experience, support and peace of mind. Not to mention you can walk out of the store with it. If you buy from brand boutiques, there is no discount but they will usually “throw in” some cool giveaways and or send you off with an extra alligator strap and deployant buckle. Those gifts alone will run you $800, not to mention you’ll be on their VIP list and a glass of Scotch to enjoy while you’re there! 😂 BUY FROM ADs and support legitimate business.

Also, I bought a Hamilton Khaki Day Date a year and half ago and sold it on EBay a couple weeks ago to find it was probably fake. I never bothered to Authenticate a $450 dollar watch, and the buyer is not making a big deal about it, but did make sure to tell me what his watchmaker said. I will definitely be more careful going forward.

I often check out their site when on the trail of a particular watch. Of the 100 watches I've bought in the past 4 years, I have never actually pulled the trigger on one of their listings. I always found their prices to be much higher than the market would seem to support.

They lose a sale and possibly future sales of many from wanting to squeeze an extra $40. Really ridiculous.

This company seems to be all about the money and nothing else. I run a small business and customer satisfaction and positive word of mouth is very important to us, as there is a lot of competition out there. If they think the watch community doesn't communicate with each other they are none too bright. I don't see you owe them a red cent.

Your not liable to pay a restocking fee on an item they failed to deliver. Delivery is their responsibility. Your responsibility is to pay for the product, which you did. I’d tell them that they need to either deliver the product or give you a full refund, or they’ll be hearing from your lawyer!

10% for exactly nothing. Completely unacceptable. Keeping your cool is a superpower I wish I had. I would travel there and not leave without the watch.
They should be offering you FREE stuff , straps, cases for the inconvenience - not asking for 40 bucks.
Sidenote: I bought a G.S from an AD, by the time I got home I realized I had let my wife influence my buying decision and I was miserable!
The AD let me go back the next day to pick another watch which happened to be cheaper, and they gave me cash back for the difference. I was overwhelmed at the amazing courtesy so I went back 6 months later and bought another watch. Treating customers with respect IS good business.

I know this was a year ago, but if this happens to anyone what you need to do is threaten a credit card chargeback. Generally, that should get them to give you a full refund because they won't want to pay the chargeback fee. But if they don't, call up your bank and explain the situation. This situation would definitely warrant one.
