One of my absolute favorite things about this channel is how Greg treats every video as someone's first when he talks about the candy making process. "It's Amber now but it'll become white later and I'll show you how" I just love that you can come in at any video and know the process and why they're doing whatever steps they're doing.
To be fair, people watching these types of videos probably already have some idea on how it's done. There are SO MANY of these types of videos on RUclips. And most of this is "just watch the video and find out" type stuff (like how amber candy becomes white).
I was thinking early on in this video, you play "Mamma Mia" and I was like, oh...because Mother's Day. Then I realized you were playing all Abba. UGH! I see what you did there.
i always love watching greg work. the others are good at their work and are fun to watch as well but greg just has the nice calm flowing movements of a master of his craft. it really shows how far you can go with any skill you choose.
A master of the craft wouldn't have to worry about if the M is upside down because they weren't paying attention. A master would also have evenly shaped rods of candy to break.
You know I really thought it was going to be easy and fun. This may have been one of the more difficult things and I'm still not completely happy with how it came out, but it came out. And it came out before mother's Day
@@LoftyPursuits I never in this world would have thought it would be _easy_ to work that many appropriate palindromes in! I salute your efforts, and even though it doesn't match your aspirations to perfection, it's pretty darned good.

Since brexit we've been unable to ship to the uk. That may actually be changing soon so please keep your eyes open. We got approved for a new system just today and it will probably be a few weeks before we see if it can work or not.
Is it sad that my favorite palindrome is "racecar"? XD Also, my mom bought the Forgotten Flavors assortment and we can't figure out what the flavors are actually supposed to be. What are they?
It's wild to hear you say an apple being crisp is the same thing as being tart. Crisp has always described texture, not flavor, how I've heard it used.
@@Dyanosis who makes a vanilla hard candy?? People have different likes and dislikes. I like vanilla. Cherry is just as basic as a flavor. People like different things
@@LoftyPursuitsI hate brexit... I don't even know what it was... I suppose it was a mess. I guess its going to be harder to get hold of some of your sweets then. Its fine.
Being the internet expert on all things that I am... I would think malic acid would be more appropriate for an apple flavored candy. I'm sure there is a reason that would not work though.
If you were an internet expert as you claim to be, you would know that malic acid, due to its low melting point, is a terrible acid to use with hard candy. That candy is literally 310 degrees F. Even when it "cools", it still wouldn't be cool enough to add in the malic acid. Therefore, you need an acid that is more sturdy/has a higher melting point so it doesn't do more harm than good. It's like figuring out when to add milk to a dish - if you add it while the dish is hot, your milk can curdle. But if you add it later (or add it before you heat everything up) then it'll incorporate better.
I think it is a massive waste of potential that the word palindrome isnt itself a palindrome, like if you had to name a specific phenemon in the english language a word why wouldnt you want that word to exemplify that very phenomenon?
palindrome (n.) "line that reads the same backward and forward," 1620s, from Greek palindromos "a recurrence," literally "a running back," from palin "again, back" (from PIE *kwle-i-, from root *kwel- (1) "move round," with notion of "revolving;" see cycle (n.)) + dromos "a running" (see dromedary). Related: Palindromic. It's a massive waste of potential when people try to make something it's not.
You always say about the air making the candy white and I'am sure your not wrong but it starts to go pale as soon as starts to stretch, There must be something else going on. I feel like there's a great collaboration with a science channel here that I'd love to see.
No need for a science channel. He literally explains it in the simplest form in the video. As the candy stretches, it incorporates and traps air inside, which causes it to turn white. After they remove it from the hook, you can see how much more "airy" the candy looks. This same technique, because of the effect of air, is how you can turn red into pink, blue into cyan, etc.
@@Dyanosis Yes he explains that every time he does it but as I said the color change starts on the very first stretch, before any air is folded in. Further the candy develops chatoyance as it stretches' which doesn't seem to be explained by air.
What swings? The swings to actually break the candy rope? Why would he need a lot of weight? The candy, when it gets pulled like that, is very brittle and breaks pretty easily.
@@seadffsa it has too ends, a thin one that can stir tiny amounts of food coloring in and a big one for large areas. The traditional tool is a tongue depressor or a new, clean Popsicle stick.
