I can’t help but to laugh and just shake my head when I look around at some of the drivers now days. Driving around with their feet up on the dash, poking along in their company truck in the middle lane going 60mph. I was in Baltimore yesterday and the shipper told a driver to remove a piece of wood from his trailer. He had no clue what he said. Just gave him a blank stare. At the very least, a basic understanding of the English language should be required to drive. But hey... you say that and you’re automatically a racist.
Can't speak for the US, but in Canada some years ago new regulation passed that required all drivers go through a much stricter (and more expensive) training and licensing program. If that means safer, smarter roads, then I'm all for it! I myself am looking for a career change, and want to move to trucking. But I am kind of scared to make the move!
Rusty Climber thank you for not getting a CDL. Between your language and your attitude you really don’t belong in the profession. I wish you safe trips and an early career change.
Rusty Climber I had no idea we were hearing from a man of such greatness. Please accept my apologies if I have besmirched any of your great accomplishments. Yup! Everybody loves to talk smack in the radio pretending they're god's gift to trucking as they pass me because I am watching the speed limit. Just remember, none of these loud mouth SOBs will be there when you crash, get a ticket or loose your job. So, let them talk smack and I'll just laugh at them when they crash, getting a ticket or hitching a ride. Safe travels to you Sir!
Corn Fed Believe what you want and if you even mumble about the guy holding you up because he's going not fast enough for you, I hope you eat crow! Have a great day and safe travels.
This is why I don't have a cb. I have logging channels on company radio. I'll let a log truck know if I spot a problem on their truck. (Guy was dragging a chain yesterday and I keyed him up) I don't care what speed other drivers do as long as they don't yo-yo speed. That drives me nuts. I let others pass when they want to run faster, can't stand when drivers slow excessively for every mild curve then drop the hammer when I have the chance to pass. I drive at consistent speed as much as possible.
Julio Gonzo Julio Gonzo.......Yes Sir! And you get better fuel mileage doing it your way as well. Some of these rookies probably have no idea how much more fuel they are burning from yo yo'ing their speed.
Good Ol' Monteagle!! Run it at least TWICE weekly on my way to Nashville. Seen many a truck burn up their brakes. Plenty of Tennessee Troopers waiting at the bottom as of late!
Another scenario on that burn down is he got so hot that he melted the inner oil seal and the oil caught fire and then you have a big fire that no extinguisher on a truck will put out. Love the headcam action!
Hmmm, 17-18years; 14 long haul, 2 line, and a year of miscellaneous. Grossing out with weights of 125,000+lbs. Hauled; vans, flat bed, drop decks, heavy equipment, cans and for a little fun drove dump with a pup or haul heavy equipment. I’ve been from coast to coast to coast, north and south...expect Mexico...well that’s a fib, I had a couple of days to get Munro La, had a few days and was at a truck stop off of the 10 in El Paso, to a cab to boarders day walked across for the day...other than that my experiences have been all US and Canada. I’ve driven pretty much every piece of equipment in one form or another...my first truck being an 85 GMC General with the old Hendrix suspension, hard mounted cab to the frame...so basically just the air seat. I estimate that I’ve put over 1.5 million miles accident free, which includes my dump and heavy equipment hauling. I think I can speak on the subject matter quite confidently. ;) Cheers
Almost 40 years up to 500,000. dollies, 19 axles, 13 axles, dual lanes. Go down south pass in Wyoming, big cedar in Oklahoma, monarch, you can never go too slow but anything go wrong going too fast and your screwed.
Great job going down Mt Eagle. The last 3 times i went down I was maxed out in weight. Like you i went the speed limit 25mph in the correct gear, engine break on and kept it in the zone all the way down. I usually have 2 other big trucks follow me down, we keep our proper distance. All is good and i have gone up and down Mt Eagle since my COE days back in 1975. :-)
Speckled Perch it only take a few extra seconds to do it the right way, plus you get to live longer in the process, thanks for the compliment and for watching 👍
Troopers do sometimes patrol this area like 6 times a year! The rest of the year, trucks cars exceed the posted speeds.Hundreds ot times also.Lack of enforcement is the primary cause of most accidents. There are all kinds of drivers, good, medium, horrible so hence the result is accidents.State of Wyoming has signs at a certain point in construction zones which read,MERGE into this lane, and anyone who does not merge is written a citation by Troopers posted down the road. This prevents road rage from the aggressive drivers who go to the very last point where the lane is closed and expect to wedge their vehicles ahead of someone who is in the correct lane.
Had a guy from "W***E***" pass me yesterday in the rain because apparently 60mph isn't fast enough. There were two SUVs ahead of me. The semi truck jumped right in front of me and rearended both of those SUVs. He was running close to 70 on wet roads with moderate traffic.
I spent just over 15 years driving a truck, and there is nothing worse than getting stuck in super slow moving stop and go traffic. I have spent several hours at once in it, never got out of first gear, and damn near killed my left knee pumping the clutch. I still hate it in my automatic trans pickup. As for brakes, I was a codriver once with another driver who tended to rid the brakes. Once I thought for sure we were going to die. The brakes faded so bad we had no brakes. We finally wound up stopped against the side of a mountain. Both the truck and trailer were pretty much destroyed. But we survived. I never saw that guy again.
You drunk man??? It's a 6% grade and I run it 2 times a day running line haul and was at 72,000 just the other day in 8th gear with the jake brake on the lowest setting which sets my speed at 45 all the way down!!!! Clown!
I've run Mt. Eagle quite a lot, and truth be told once you learn the rhythm of the mountain and know your truck's rhythm, you can move swiftly. Staying off the brakes and using your jakes is the secret, keeping following distances high and running at night in cooler ambient temperatures saves the vehicle
Black mountain on of the most dangerous in East Coast. Always respect the mountain. I watch other trucks run way to fast and smoke there breaks. Run right and arrive safe.
James Dewey I don't think I've ever seen anything more steeper than Lolo pass in northern Idaho, definitely not for anybody but the extreme professional driver.
Thanks for bringing us along. I drove over the road as an owner operator back in the 80's-90's with my 1988 Freightliner conventional with 425 Cat, 15 speed. I miss those days dearly, some of the best experiences of my life.
Kathlyn Terry that or the only one that cares about his job and not willing to risk everything over a few minutes of my life, and thanks for the medal 🏅👍
Drove to Lookout Mountain GA, from Two Harobrs MN Memorial day wknd, could not believe how many inconsiderate drivers we came accross between Nashville and Chattanooga! Stay CLASSY!
WHERE'S the I.17 INTERSTATE 17 THAT'S FROM FLAG STAFF TO PHOENIX. WHAT ABOUT INTERSTATE 90 AT BETWEEN IDAHO AND MONTANA WHAT'S ABOUT TENNESSEE TO NORTH CAROLINA INTERSTATE 40 THAT'S IS CLEARLY TO ME THAT'S I .40 BETWEEN TENNESSEE AND NORTH CAROLINA. THX FOR THE VIDEO.
My better half owns land right there at the bottom on Monteagle on the right. She talks about back in the old days on the old road how many trucks wrecked coming down & they would hire out to clean up the loads. The old road was a whole lot different that that nice road they have today. I have run them both & the new road is a whole lot better. No comparison.
Eddie Hubbard I remember when I was a kid my mother's best friend was the Jasper police dispatcher, and she told my mother about a driver who went off the old road with a load of steel pipe, and they had to wait until the wreckers pulled all the pipe out so they could find which ones his head was in.
Is the old road over Monteagle still around? Sounds like it would be a good drive for a normal car, I'm always interested to find the highways and byways that people used to drive on before the newer roads were built.
Times have changed so much.... back in 92-98 we would run monteagle, sandstone, fancy gap, or grape vine out west 90-100 with a big cam 400 with 0 Jakes and run past the scales in Texas with lights out for hundreds of miles in a convoy with bull wagons and blowing scales! Those were the days....
Had the opportunity to run this a few times back in 2003-04. Nothing too stressful when you’re aware and in control. 80,000 isn’t scary for a driver who is respectful of the conditions. Up here in Canada we run 63,500 kg (140,000 lb) on a SuperB, so it pays to have the equipment in top condition and always be ready for the fools (in 4 wheelers and the big trucks).
I have done that before but not on Monteagle. It was on a hill in Virginia, 2 lane 10% grade with road construction. Grossed out & was at a dead stop due to the construction. Had to take off at that angle like that. The damn truck started backwards cause the truck didn't have enough power to pull the grade from a start loaded heavy. I will scare you enough to make you mess your drawers, lol. Thank GOD the car behind me was smart enough he had stopped about 30 to 40 yards behind me. Must have happened to him before. Ah the good ole days.
You said it rookies. They don't know that if you put it in he right gear with jakes you can cruz that speed of 45 and never have to touch your breaks all you do if need be is work the jakes. Thanks driver great vid.
Do Monteagle all the time. Fancy gap and grapevine are nothing compared to i24 Both ways. See no need to speed or be reckless No load is life saving. It all can wait.
There are much worse roads. Those are all paved. Gravel and mud, snow and Ice and if you aren’t turning you are climbing or descending. With names like Oh Shit Corner, the Cut, the Shelf.
LOL How do you even try to compare Monteagle with Grapevine? Fully loaded you can just kick it down to 8th and let the Jake brake do its job. I cross this mountain regularly with 40,000 of steel on, and almost never even hit the brakes.
I’m glad you talked about all that. In the past 3 months I’ve got real serious about watchin my speed. Several times I’ve hit 80 going down that hill and a couple hills coming back on 40 and no tickets but I’ve just finally started getting serious. You can partly think yourself for some ramblings but I just started realizing it ain’t worth it. You can think yourself and I can thank you.
It is ironic that his truck driver is talking so much about not going over ten miles a hour going down hill because it is considered reckless driving. But while he is talking about this, CMVs are going by him at least 10 mph faster then the posted speed limit.
jparker12004 I've seen so many drivers just do crazy shit all day, every day. Shouldnt be a surprise. I saw a guy with a long dump running 100 through the hills and mountains of W.Va and that damn thing somehow didn't slide or tip. It made me cringe. I've seen some trucks end up in the worst way. Lots of dead people. Those bodies will make you think. If they don't, jump off a bridge and save others from your stupidity.
Mt Eagle is nasty on the East side. Back in the 70's I lost my brakes half way down. An air line decided it was a good time to develop a hole. Was empty but still a crazy ride. Hardly ever came down without seeing a truck with smoking brakes. Those were the days before Jake brakes. When truckers had to rely on their brains.
Very few trucks had them and no company trucks. They were expensive. Yes they were around. I meant they weren't many trucks equipped with them like now.
I am an "old-time" trucker...that hill is a nothing.... I always ran that hill at 55 m.p.h. and was off of it in minutes.....that way your brakes dont heat up at all.....these new regulations make driving DANGEROUS.....I ran 48 states everywhere with no Jake, no cruise, no nothing,240 cummins for many years.....5,000 miles per week..... trust me that the new regulations are DANGEROUS
You gotta be kidding.. Yes its 45 mph going down mt eagle .. But in reality its not anywhere near a crazy steep hill as several others across the country. Ive gone empty and loaded down that hill .. Have always held the speed limit and never smoked my brakes. .. Almost never even have to hit my brakes .. Have been passed by the hellbents plenty times .. At the end of the day .. I dont really care what they do. as long as they dont hit me.. They can fly down hills all they want.. They may make it . they may not..
Brandy Hunsucker modern day Trucks makes a huge difference in what we drove years ago, even with today’s technology, drivers are still smoking the brakes on this little hill.
Life is Good. I know .. Technology is alot more advanced.. Jake brakes have been around for a long time.. But when skill is lacking , technology is useless. Theres a reason u down shift . theres a reason for the jakes. For some reason some ppl dont know how to use them. Mabey cause their the super truckers that think they got it and dont need assistance
Lots of steering wheel holders don't set their jakes right and end up riding the brake at speed pulling right up on people's rears. Basically drive like 80% of the people drive a car these days. Heck, I wouldn't be surprised if CWEB systems ever become the norm with distance keeping like cars have if some holders don't just rely on that to ride down hills on people's backsides. Today's drivers are so reliant on technology doing the job for them on today's better roads. Gives you a lot of respect for the old truckers that had to handle things like 62W out of Eureka Springs, AR. or the 550 in Colorado because the interstates to avoid them didn't exist yet or there wasn't access from A to B. And did it without ABS and modern adjustable jakes.
I never understood why people get there breaks hot and smoking and then stop to let them cool off. All that does is get them hotter and then it goes into the tires and then the tires explode. When you keep going the air will cool them off faster and better
Yellow signs are recommend speed. They are suggested speeds so you don’t burn up your brakes on the down hill grade. Speed “limit” signs are white and black (federal law).
Trucking in Canada full of "new" drivers who don't know a thing about the business they got into. Sad, this is going to kick us in the a$% someday. I do a lot of mountain and none of those people know what a speed limit is.
peterincgy I swear, just watching "highway thru hell" about the BC hills and they act like the road is somehow stupidly dangerous... It ain't, it's the retarded fucking drivers that don't know shit ruining it for everyone. 99% of the wrecks are totally avoidable by just slowing down, but they're paid per trip and think hauling ass is a good idea. The only place they're hurrying to is an early grave.
I remember running down that hill plenty of times loaded heavy. Had to use every bit of jakes to keep her under 35. She's a tough hill for sure. Good show man.
My truck has no Jake and I can manage that decent loaded at 25 mph without smoking the brakes. Been doing it for years. Always scares the hell out of me when the wheel holders come flying down it.
dm j I learned mountain driving 16 years ago without a jake. Done it on a learners and when I finally got to driving school I done it better with the jake than the trainers did.
Do Swift drivers even know how to drive properly? My dad used to drive trucks before he passed away and he had all kinds of stories about Swift drivers being stupid.
My first time down that hill was my first time learning about a brake check station. Just watching some of the drivers fly past me down that hill made me nervous that a rookie mega company driver was gonna run over someone.
I had a simular experience going down Donner pass. Right lane ends ahead, I'm in the right lane holding traffic to the squeeze. But when it came time for me to merge,, the asshole car hauler in the left lane tried to close the gap to not let me merge. But I cut the fucker off, and that really pissed him off. It amazed me to think that even though I kept 50 cars behind us, he didn't appreciate it enough to return the favor.
Those of us who drive smaller vehicles thank you for your professional driving. I've been tailgated nine ways to Sunday pulling a flatbed gooseneck with a deuce-and-a-half Ford in the mountains around Eureka Springs, Ark. By sand trucks, usually... Oy... Nice to have a trucker who runs the speed limit. Swift, Maverick, and FedEx, I'm lookin' at you ! Take notes!
Professionalism is paramount in situations like this. Most of the reckless drivers are coming out of Canada...lots of Arabic decent who can't speak Jack of English. I watched a driver spend 45 minutes to back into a dock on flat ground with an open space in front 3/4 the length of the truck. Canadian driver...see above. In addition, ALWAYS TALKING WITH A HANDHELD DEVICE!
I love that mountain. Its actually one of the most manageable mountains out there. The only obstacle is two sharp turns but other than that, it's not bad.
Mount Eagle is the first Mountain that I ever drove a tractor trailer down and I almost lost my life on this mountain because no one never taught me how to drive in the mountains in a tractor trailer because when I first went with Warner Enterprises they gave me a trainer that was on a dedicated Home Depot account where we never left Florida so I never had training in the mountains I had to teach myself and it's very scary doing this by yourself as a rookie on the way down I rode my brakes until they started smoking then I pulled over to let my brakes cool down it was very scary so yes this mountain can and will take your life if you don't know what you're doing
Some drivers just shouldn't drive. They drive there trucks like they drive there cars plus they think that CDL gives them the right to drive however they want. Btw. I've blown a steer tire going down the west side of that mountain. It was an interesting experience!!
1armedgal I work security (in the process of going into trucking)and I swear to god the amount of truck drivers i get that speak NO english is ridiculous. I had one guy speak ZERO english, couldnt/didn't read signs and did over 1 million+ in damage to a BP refiner in NJ when he made a wring turn. He showed up at my gate lost, needed to turn around. I got permission from the terminal mng to let him in to turn around. I explain to him what to do, literally walked next to his truck (like holding his hand) i told him to u-turn and instead he sees an open road and goes to drive to it (idk maybe his gps was telling him that was the road he wanted, but you cant exit the facility that way) well thank god the huge holding tank was empty because he ripped all the piping out of it and wedge the truck under other pipes. Cops, fire dept, ems, coast guard (because it was twic facility) show up and guess what? He couldn't speak a lick of english to any of them. Now of course they are all trying to figure out if it was on purpose or a dry run to attack the facility. Total chaos. My favorite line is "Im not from here" so they don't have stop signs or traffic lights where your from? I get getting lost and not knowing the area, but to totally disregard the markers to baffling. I feel its because they actually dont know what the sign means or is saying.
To many schools ride students up and down interstate highway and not many have any idea how to go down a mountain without a jake brake and all these asphalt cowboys scare the hell out of these rookies and don’t bother to show them how it’s down.
"Alot of them are foreigners...I probably shouldn't say that" Hahaha, "Lord I apologize, I probably shouldn't have said that" (Larry the Cable Guy) They dont know better that's usually why they are at the bottom charred. Thanks for keeping it safe out there.
VOOODOOO that's why they are steering wheel holders and not truck drivers..same one's that take their 30 minute break at the fuel island's because they don't know how to park or are to lazy and inconsiderate to park.
I live in Chattanooga and I’ve done that hill countless times over the last 18 years. Thankfully I’ve been smart enough to not be the first to the bottom.
Love it, man. I enjoy your commentary and the tips. I love driving my lil ole semi all over this country. Your Monteagle is truly a beautiful place, I also like the pretty fishing hole at the bottom of the hill. Yeah, I'm always getting passed by our "super trucker" friends going down any of these mountains, but I was taught a long time ago that brakes are for stopping my truck, not controlling downhill speed. The correct gear setup, a good jake, and some of God's greatest scenery.....and I'm getting paid to have a front row seat. All of you road warriors, be safe and take time to enjoy!
It's good to see a trucker that obeys the driving laws, I wish the dump trucks in NJ would obey them also they are always over weight and constantly get into accidents and maim and kill innocent drivers because of their haste to make a few extra dollars. Safe trucking my fine feathered friend!!!
Yea I live in New York right next to you and let me tell you. You drivers in NJ are no picknick. I came here from Houston and by far you are the rudest most discourteous drivers that I have ever met and from what I have seen it is not the Dump trucks that are the problem!!
Trash haulers (walking floor), the dump guys who haul the ash from trash to steam plants, and rolloff guys are some of the worst I have seen I'm from the tri state area in PA I was a rolloff driver hahahaha!
John M. Evangelis 78 West bound Nj every day there’s a crash over jugtown mountain people drive way to fast out here even truck drives pass you doing 80-85 Miles an hour some times even faster
vance hensala Depends on the company to how youre paid. I know dump truck drivers that get paid per hour. Talk about the slowest MF. Then the guys who want the money as its per load. They wil break every law there to make that 1 extra run. Not really the per mile or per hour type deal that makes it bad. Its the people that are the problem. Why companies want self driving trucks. Elminate the person, you eliminate half the issues. Afterall, they already came out with a facilities that are 100% autopilot 24/7. That includes loading the trucks. Only techs to fix the issues that arise. The issues with those companies happen to be the very thing they replaced. The person aspect as now they wait on trailers and containers to load and product to come in.
I go down Mt Eagle everytime I head for home in FL, not once have I ever gone any faster than 45mph just on the off chance there's a TN Highway patrolman just waiting for me to be over in my black Freight. Newish driver, btw.
Monteagle scares me. going eastbound is much scarier then going west bound. gotta watch your speed and posted speed. have seen trucks smokin their brakes way too hard. Thank bud this is informative.
Been there done that, always annoyed me when I'm holding 25-30 loaded without braking being safe and jackasses pass me like I'm standing still. Quit OTR and am back in the ND oilfields making 4x the money and home most every night.
The cure for hot brakes... 2 liter of soda. I've pulled up on trucks with a blown chamber that have already wasted their fire extinguisher, as the flames flair back up you shake the bottle pop a hole near the bottom, and no more heat = no more fire.
i'm a newer driver (6 months I'm 21 so give me a brake we all start somewhere) and I'm starting out with Schneider i got a 2015 Frieghtliner with a manual transmission and the Detroit diesel in there, how big is the learning curve is going from a 10 speed to an 18 speed? Is it just a lot of skip shifting typically, also thanks for the video this first year for me is all about learning the safest way to operate a class 8 and that safety corridor tip you gave is really some good info, i try not to speed but i do get a little impatient as a night time driver in some of these safety corridors where the speed is 45 on a flat ground 4 lane highway but its good to know how to stay out of trouble.
What ever happened to shadowing? Stay side be side with a fellow driver who will let you in at the right time. This helps reduce the bottle neck and encourages trucker courtesy. But, of course I know the answer, those days are gone. Many truckers today do not know what flashing the lights even mean anymore..... just sad. Great video btw.
I've been going through here for almost 2 years and still don't know what purpose it serves,I just know it gives me time to set the gear I need to be in and get on down the hill.
Good ole Mont eagle went once with a 278,000 gal L.p. tank and scared the crap outta me I only did 10 mph the whole way but that Jake sounded like a Blackhawk goin all the way down
Life is Good. Immature fuckers on the radio in the mid 2000's created the backup radio. NOBODY WANTED TO HEAR THAT CRAP! Radios are making a comeback but it's still no where near as prevalent as it used to be.
Travel this many times and every time there’s guys flying down this hill, all you can smell is hot brakes. I always wondered why they designed the runaway lane so that you would have to cross the entire highway to get to them. Someday, one of these speed demons will cause a huge wreck!
On the truck that burn up, if he smoked his breaks on Monteagle, for Pete's sake, the only place I smoked mine was Loveland Pass in Colorado, didn't even accomplish that on Donner
It seems like the difference between truck drivers and professional truck drivers is getting greater and greater. Thanks for your professionalism.

There is a big difference between a truck driver and a steering wheel holder, which the majority are nowdays.
Kenneth Ransom In all fairness, I've seen some stupid things by experienced driver's too.
I have seen experienced drivers do stupid crap.I learned how to drive out west without a Jake so Monteagle is just a mole hill.
Let them jakes roar. I don’t understand why guys try to run down these mountains at 70. You just never know what could happen
Patience comes with experience. I used to do that when I first started
Young In Trucking i agree with you
You can only go down a mountain too fast one time!
Young In Trucking I actually enjoy sitting back and relaxing letting the jake take her down.
Let her have it down the hill .If she can take it..

Never go down the mountain faster than you can go up.
2 gears lower than you go up.
maxracingteam23 that’s just ridiculous
Bullshit,,, ridiculous for a race car driver to speak about something he knows nothing of

Speckled Perch not to mention the view is spectacular gorgeous.
Speckled Perch It's not Mt. Eagle, but Monteagle.
Ran I-24 thru there 100’s of times and was always amazed how many trucks would run down it doing 70+. No load is worth your life.
Roadhog49 that’s true I see it all the time I’m a driver also
Troopers do sometimes patrol this area like 6 times a year!
Glad you have all their dot number's an video of other truckers driving wreckless. Thank you,
DOT!
Had a guy from "W***E***" pass me yesterday in the rain because apparently 60mph isn't fast enough. There were two SUVs ahead of me. The semi truck jumped right in front of me and rearended both of those SUVs. He was running close to 70 on wet roads with moderate traffic.
Western Express?
I always come down that hill at max weight in neutral and hang my bare ass out the window while drinking a cold one;))))
Joe Smith lol really
Hell yeah brother!!!!!!
dam, must be a chicken hauler, cluck cluck
Yeah yeah yeah. How many times you used that escape ram , bullshit lair
Been down it a few times aways slow and carefull.
Whitebird on us.95 is worse than Lolo pass in id/mt line
Thanks for bringing us along. I drove over the road as an owner operator back in the 80's-90's with my 1988 Freightliner conventional with 425 Cat, 15 speed. I miss those days dearly, some of the best experiences of my life.
Apparently you’re the only truck driver who knows that. 🏅
Kathlyn Terry that or the only one that cares about his job and not willing to risk everything over a few minutes of my life, and thanks for the medal 🏅👍
smart drivers always have nice trucks like yours for a reason
Drove to Lookout Mountain GA, from Two Harobrs MN Memorial day wknd, could not believe how many inconsiderate drivers we came accross between Nashville and Chattanooga! Stay CLASSY!
Slow, low, and easy. I was going down SB I-17 the other day GVW@ 79,200. I was holding at 45.
Peresam Sami Monteagle is on I-24.
Part of it is still there.
Scary grade. Hat's off to those who can handle it. Good job!
Anyone remember Jerry Reeds song?
Smokey and the Bandit.
Comin down backwards at the speed of sound.
Glad I'm not the only one that thought of that song
I believe that one is entitled "The Legend."
Oh yes the song name is the legend of the bandit from Atlanta GA
Everybody that seen him thought the bandit was gone
You said it rookies. They don't know that if you put it in he right gear with jakes you can cruz that speed of 45 and never have to touch your breaks all you do if need be is work the jakes. Thanks driver great vid.
Do Monteagle all the time. Fancy gap and grapevine are nothing compared to i24 Both ways. See no need to speed or be reckless No load is life saving. It all can wait.
mudcrutched1 yup! Just sit back maintain the proper speed and enjoy the view
Bugsy Barboza Good job, become the professional and protect your livelihood
Safety first driver. Thanks.
Hate to tell you but they had Jake breaks in the 70s
Very few trucks had them and no company trucks. They were expensive. Yes they were around. I meant they weren't many trucks equipped with them like now.
Thanks for the ride along there driver. The pleasure was all mine. Maybe catch you on the rebound. Safe trip.!
I always space myself when going down a big hill like this that has brake checks. That way we aren’t on top of each other.
What a quiet cab!
Best trucking video ive seen never wamted to do it but im more interested in it now
Thanks for your advice. Also, this is a good in-cab camera. It's a great view to help me feel like I'm in the pilot's seat.
The only place they're hurrying to is an early grave.
peterincgy tell me where the mountains are,i didn't see it jet,and i drive All 48 and i am a new Canadian
I remember running down that hill plenty of times loaded heavy. Had to use every bit of jakes to keep her under 35. She's a tough hill for sure. Good show man.
Good insight. I appreciate it. Learning something here.
I drove that hill in a small SUV and it freaked me out. I can't imagine that in a big rig 😳
Monteagle Mountain is BEAUTIFUL! Every time I drive thru there, I am amazed!
When i drive my truck loaded i just use the gears and exhaust brake, i use the brakes more when its empty . To many people are in a rush
It also depends on if you know the mountain. I go down Fancy Gap regularly and I go about 70-75 no problem.
I was told by a state trooper to always use the availiable lanes to the end.
Lol I remember that video.
*over cb*- lights green big truck!
Tim - shut up stupid, can I tell him to shut up? 😂
Do Swift drivers even know how to drive properly? My dad used to drive trucks before he passed away and he had all kinds of stories about Swift drivers being stupid.
Brother trucker, you kinda makin me miss runnin OTR. If I didn't have my mother, sister, and niece to look after, I'd probably be doing it again.
Enjoy riding along with you.
Riding that right lane passing all that you can knowing that its closed up ahead. a true professional!
Wish i can drive some equipment like that one day
His voice made me try to clear my throat 7 times
I drive one of those new cascadias. That bumper is a pain to keep undamaged. The wrong truck stop dirt lot will break it quick.
ahh man!! i passed through that commercial brake inspection today! with a 26,000 load. made it to Virginia
Don't worry about calling them foreigners! I wonder how in the hell some of them get any license, let alone a cdl!
1armedgal, amen!!!
Yep, half of them don't even speak English!
1armedgal so are ale foreigners that way you think or are there US drivers to that can't drive
I'm not sure what an "ale foreigner" is??
Used to run Mt. Eagle quite a bit. Steep is one thing, but when it iced up...a killer.
He said (other than swift)...lol
oilburner389 thunder you caught that, 👍
oilburner389 thunder thats the only reason he watched this
oilburner389 thunder I swear Swift drivers can't drive...
1st time I went down that mountain I was 80,000, at night, and in the rain. Very worrisome. Made it down but the brakes where "warm" at the bottom.
To many schools ride students up and down interstate highway and not many have any idea how to go down a mountain without a jake brake and all these asphalt cowboys scare the hell out of these rookies and don’t bother to show them how it’s down.
"Alot of them are foreigners...I probably shouldn't say that" Hahaha, "Lord I apologize, I probably shouldn't have said that" (Larry the Cable Guy)
They dont know better that's usually why they are at the bottom charred. Thanks for keeping it safe out there.
He couldn’t pull over going down hill when he knew something was wrong.
There's usually a bear sitting at that inspection area
Dam Tim !! You caught up with them keep teaching !!
I've driven down that road, that's cool seeing it from a truck perspective.
thank you
those guys are crazy to pass that fast, nuts
VOOODOOO that's why they are steering wheel holders and not truck drivers..same one's that take their 30 minute break at the fuel island's because they don't know how to park or are to lazy and inconsiderate to park.
Great teacher
Good video I run out west all the time and for me anyhow wolf creek pass is the worst . Good to see a professional driver that lives up to the name.
All drivers should be paid by the hour, companies use per mile to push drivers.
vance hensala Depends on the company to how youre paid. The person aspect as now they wait on trailers and containers to load and product to come in.
very professional
I go down Mt Eagle everytime I head for home in FL, not once have I ever gone any faster than 45mph just on the off chance there's a TN Highway patrolman just waiting for me to be over in my black Freight. Newish driver, btw.
Good he know that a mistake can cost him his life...keep on keeping on
Monteagle scares me. going eastbound is much scarier then going west bound. gotta watch your speed and posted speed. have seen trucks smokin their brakes way too hard.
Awesome video thanks have a great day be safe and love the truck she is a sharp ride.
2fast65 Thank you
I've been going through here for almost 2 years and still don't know what purpose it serves,I just know it gives me time to set the gear I need to be in and get on down the hill.
I seen the hogan truck pulling dollar general...they still have the contract....they used to say were gonna lose it.....
Good ole Mont eagle went once with a 278,000 gal L.p. tank and scared the crap outta me I only did 10 mph the whole way but that Jake sounded like a Blackhawk goin all the way down
Thank Tim.
Didn't have their radios on eh? Or they didn't have one at all.
Billy Ray typical probably running a backup radio, those only work in backups
Life is Good. Immature fuckers on the radio in the mid 2000's created the backup radio. NOBODY WANTED TO HEAR THAT CRAP! Radios are making a comeback but it's still no where near as prevalent as it used to be.
Travel this many times and every time there’s guys flying down this hill, all you can smell is hot brakes. I always wondered why they designed the runaway lane so that you would have to cross the entire highway to get to them. Someday, one of these speed demons will cause a huge wreck!
Dave Bullock I agree put the trucks in the left lane with the ramps, keep the cars out of the way
You wouldn’t believe what we have to drive on in British Columbia in Canada, Mont Eagle is child’s play.
On the truck that burn up, if he smoked his breaks on Monteagle, for Pete's sake, the only place I smoked mine was Loveland Pass in Colorado, didn't even accomplish that on Donner
Nice hill to use that 3 stage Jake...
