At the age of 70 I thought I had heard everything,but I've never heard Mickey Raphael sing ! Lots of fun !
Mickey gave me my first harp lesson after having selling him his wedding rings. Then told me what books to buy. He got me started!!!
What a great harmonica player Mickey has always been....... and a fun-loving character!
All the times I've seen Willie I aint NEVER seen Mickey sing solo!! What a character!

Actually, the name of the song is "Fishin' Blues", written by Henry Thomas in 1928... Awesome to hear Mickey singing it and playing some harp on it... I first heard this song at a SPAH convention in the very early 1980s, played live by Peter "Madcat" Ruth... it became one of my favorite songs to play... many others have done it, Taj Mahal, Loving Spoonful (John Sebastian Jr), Tom Ball & Kenny Sultan, JJ Milteau, Carlos del Junco, Nitty Gritty Dirt Band, and... I always love hearing others' versions !

so... I'm singing the fishin blues.. for all the years I have been married... and that other old time favorite... the diving duck blues... all the time.. sing with my cat.. the words get changed a considerable amount.. but hey . but.. heh heh heh.. my lovely wife doesn't know all the words by reading them.. she heard me... Taj Mahal.. Keb Mo... but the words were not written in front of her...
a few months ago I pointed out some ducks in the local lake... diving... she said... I thought it was the "dying duck blues" ... might be right if the river was whiskey .. fer sure
so next time you sing that song... you can know the real name... Jo knows all the words to just about any song you can think of... she's awesome... probably one pretty good reason to marry her... I always forget them...
