  • Mass Effect: Andromeda is a science fiction action role-playing video game developed by BioWare and published by Electronic Arts. Released in March 2017, it serves as the fourth major entry in the Mass Effect series, introducing a new storyline and characters set in the Andromeda Galaxy, separate from the original trilogy.
The game's narrative unfolds 600 years after the events of the original series, centering on the Andromeda Initiative-a multi-species mission to explore and colonize new worlds. Players assume the role of either Scott or Sara Ryder, designated as Pathfinders with the primary mission of finding a new home for humanity and other Milky Way species. The plot involves exploring various planets, engaging in diplomacy, and combating alien threats, notably the antagonistic Kett race and the mysterious ancient Remnant technology.
Gameplay in Andromeda blends open-world exploration with dynamic combat. Players can traverse diverse planetary environments, each with unique ecosystems. The combat system is fast-paced, integrating gunplay, melee attacks, and special abilities, and players can customize their character’s skills and loadouts to fit their preferred playstyle. Dialogue choices are crucial, affecting relationships with other characters and the storyline’s direction. Players can recruit and command a squad of diverse characters, each offering unique abilities and personalities, contributing to the overall narrative and combat strategies.
Developed using the Frostbite engine, Andromeda boasts high-quality visuals with detailed environments and lifelike character models. However, it initially faced criticism for technical issues, particularly regarding character animations, though many of these issues were addressed in subsequent patches. The game also features a cooperative multiplayer mode, allowing players to team up for wave-based missions that tie into the single-player experience.
Mass Effect: Andromeda received mixed reviews, praised for its combat mechanics, expansive galaxy, and customization options, but criticized for technical problems, uneven writing, and certain design choices. Despite these issues, it has garnered a dedicated fan base, appreciated for its expansion of the Mass Effect universe with new lore and possibilities. Overall, Andromeda offers a rich blend of exploration, combat, and narrative-driven gameplay within a detailed science fiction setting.

You're right that scanning isn't always necessary. Important scanning will trigger a beep or vibration. Scanning other items will sometimes yield research points (but not always). For example, you can scan all the shield masts on EOS, but only the first one generally yields research points. It's worth noting, though, that the descriptions of some items will change as SAM gains more information or translation abilities throughout the game.
You can also usually call your car to you using the forward stations (with a few exceptions). There is a terminal to do this similar to the one you used to look at your loadout.
