- Orange Amplifiers unleashed a 50's inspired 30 watt, 1x12 all tube guitar combo, the TremLord 30, at NAMM 2019 and Andy was able to get his hands on one. With two switchable tremolo speeds, a two spring reverb tank, and a post-trem effects loop, the Orange TremLord packs a lot of features into a small enclosure.
What do you think about this new Orange?
Andy's Gear:
Amp: Orange Tremlord 30
Guitars: Suhr Classic Antique, Jennings Voyager, Redtail Gold Top & Custom T
Interface: UA Apollo 8 QUAD
Mic: Royer R-121, Sennheiser E609
Strings: Ernie Ball Slinky 10-46
Orange is smashing it out of the park these days, that amp sounds terrific
It actually gives me a huge sense of relief to know that there are other players that play without picks, even ones that are as talented as Andy.
Why? Was thinking you were the only person to play guitar without a pick really stressing you out and keeping you up every night?
More or less imagine that you learned how to ride a bike effectively with the steering wheel flipped around. And then imagine growing up and seeing everyone riding their bicycle differently. It makes you wonder if even though you're achieving the same outcome, if you're wrong for how you got there to begin with because you're doing it differently. It's rare to see someone else go pickless, so it's nice to see someone as talented as Andy without one is all.
@@christwilson3267 I didn't think there was a wrong way to make strings vibrate. You've got dudes like Tosin Abasi slapping his guitar like it's a bass. Andy is a phenomenal guitar player and one of my favorite reviewers, but playing without a pick is hardly uncharted territory. You made it sound like you were one of the first dudes to ever play a guitar without a pick and I just had to bust your balls man. No big deal. There is nothing new under the sun.
@@McSaggerson lol it's all good. Not like I was playing guitar with my fuckin feet or something lmao
The vast majority of old school black bluesmen played with their fingers, or used a thumb pick. Robby Krieger of the Doors plays with his fingers. Who else? Ry Cooder. Mark Knopfler. Lindsey Buckingham of Fleetwood Mac. If KEXP is any indication, it seems like a fair number of younger guitarists play with their fingers nowadays.
Andy is one the best demonstrators ever. Everything he uses sounds great.
Its does a pretty good Supro impression. From what I can hear in the video, it's the nicest sounding Orange I've heard. Doesn't sound like it's trying to rip itself apart.
thejoshbtv I agree. Nicest sounding I have heard from Orange, too.
For the money, I'd rather get a Supro Black Magick.
I mean, there's a lot of amps I'd get before this one, but for a Supro sound, I'll get the BM.
CorbCorbin oh believe me, I'd get the Supro before this as well. I have one of the reissues. I'll get another at some point. This is still Orange's best effort though.
The ad30 is pretty nice
thejoshbtv
I agree.
And this is the first Orange Amp, that I've had any interest in.
If it was priced about $300 less, it would be more enticing.
I like the different output options, but I use a 25watt for "bedroom" volume already. It did sound good dimed at 1watt though.
The look towards camera while quoting Say It Ain't So... I see you Andy.
Never realised this amp existed.
And it’s essentially the amp would have bought had known. Classic sounds.
I just got one and you should too! Just fantastic
I’ve had mine for like 2 years. It’s a GREAT AMP! I’ve had everything Marshall Vox fender etc and this is right up there with the best stuff I’ve had
Just bought this in excellent condition from Reverb for about 50% of retail. These are amazing for the right price.
Thanks for the review. I've always been interested in Orange amps. I finally settled on a Fender Super-Sonic 22. I'm immensely happy with it.
The Super-Sonic is a kickin' amp!
@@mark7166 I got the head. I run it through a Bassman bottom with Altec speakers. I only have one of the speakers hooked up though because the Super-Sonic only takes an 8 ohm load. I was a little concerned that the Altec wouldn't sound as good as the Eminence speaker that comes with the combo. I need not have worried. It sounds great.
I have the combo version of the Super-Sonic and it really is a great amp. The burn channel gets some pretty awesome high-gain tones if you stack an overdrive into it, it’s hard to believe that kind of sound comes from a Fender
@@nickvirnelson9994 This is the first amp I've ever played through that I don't need any effects with the possible exception of echo. For that I have a Roland RE-301 Chorus Echo. The Super-Sonic has a natural compression. I'm going to try to cultivate a straight-to-amp, no effects, policy. I know stomp boxes have been getting exceptional, I have a few old MXRs and a fairly new Ibanez Tube Screamer that I'm quite satisfied with. But something bothers me to see the signal passing through all that circuitry. I've seen setups like The Edge has and my mind sort of has a melt down.
Matchrocket Haha, I totally understand that. Personally I like having a lot of pedals at my disposal, just because I like experimenting and finding cool tones that you wouldn’t get otherwise (without pedals). I’ve got about 7 or 8 pedals on my board right now, and the Super-Sonic handles all of them beautifully. Maybe I don’t need all of them, but it’s nice to be able to shape my sound EXACTLY the way I want it. But hey, simplicity is never a bad policy!
Flipping amazing amp! Thanks for the demo Andy
Thanks Andy! Great demonstration as always. It’s like a DRR and an OR15 had a baby. I just preordered me one, can’t wait till it ships!
love thesound of the amp..i like amps with no master volume circuit and this is great..and andy does great descriptive reviews
just so beautiful
I love when they use open tunings while reviewing gear
Background playing during the spoken intro part was sweet!
Your tone Andy is just amazing! Your fingers sing -I absolutely love it!!!! 😍
Why, oh, why do people refuse to demo the dirt on this amp? Except you of course. Thanks.
Why wouldnt they make this in a head format... sounds good regardless.
Great little amp 👍🏻
"Tone tone tone!" - Andy Salamanca
Wonder what it would sound like with a 2x12 cab attached
I don't know why they didn't issue this as a 2x12 combo. They seem fascinated with tiny combos lately, I much prefer their older 2x12 combos
rocking a great tune there Andy
Sold!!!
maybe i'm out of the loop but i've never heard of or seen any of the guitars used in this demo
I love oranges
This is the best amp I’ve ever heard. Where are the free ones?
Did Orange just out-Supro Supro? Cuz hooooly moly.
15 watt TremTerror!?!?!? Nice tones!
Ben Logan it can be switched to half power
I agree it would be nice to see this in a 15/7 watt deal. Keep the 2/1 watt settings tho too please!!!
I love my Tiny Terror combo, but would def upgrade for a Tremlord 15!!!
That guitar… killer! What is it?!?!
Because we can't turn the knobs to discover for ourselves, we really needed you to spell out what each of the knob functions are. My guess: Volume, Bass, Treble, Trem Speed 1, Trem Speed 2, Shark Level???, Reverb mix?
EBEEP the shark is most likely depth of the trem
@@joweetheraposa2430 You are absolutely right.
Nice playing as always Andy.. will you ever do an AMA on reddit?
He did one a couple years ago.
liamcoso Hey thanks, I’d love to do another one!
How would you compare this to a Fender ‘65 Deluxe Reverb?
Andy Bonamassa!
How does Orange TremLord 30 amp compare to the Vox AC30?
There is video comparison vs AC15 on YT. VOX has more brilliance. I would love to sqeeze a little more X-factor juice from this Orange TremLord, becasue it is almost PERFECT!
I have had a dark terror and now have a tiny terror. I think the trem lord 30 might be the best choice for my future rig?!?!? Boost for dirt perhaps?
The Tremlord fills a very different niche than the dark or tiny terror amps; it's going for the really old school sounds of Fender and Vox. It sounds awesome to me. But yea, since it lacks a master volume, if you want dirt you'll either have to crank the volume or use an overdrive pedal or something.
Andy didn't start this review by showing me his clean tone so I had to turn it off
I like orange more crunch on sound
Love that amp! #wishgranted
What is the brand of Telly?
Hi anny!
Where do Orange amps fit within the Fender/Vox/Marshall tone range?
Alex McMillan : my opinion, they’re close to Marshall, but less spike and warmer minds
@@bobbillnolan7644 This specific Orange amp is American voiced though. Closer to a Fender.
Cabinet is birch or is this MDF being a made in china orange?
Anybody know the song Andy's playing at 4:18
gdawgs101 All these examples are just ideas that came up after playing the amp! Thanks:)
@@AndyDemos Sounds fantastic man, keep it up!
Sounds ok. Isn't this what a Princeton Reverb does?
Ron R : Yes but it doesn’t have the same brightness EL84/EL34 have naturally. Fender are naturally darker vs British amps that are naturally brighter
@@markgarcia8253 Ok, I'll agree. But for $1200 it seems to do the work of a $900 amp. Or have MOJOTONE make you one custom for about the same.
Ron R : Who the hell buys amps brand new? Lol Used market is literally 40% off
@@markgarcia8253 It is true that used amps are cheaper. But still 40% off 900 ($540 final) is a better value than 40% off 1200 ($720) given they have similar features.
Not a fender guy but tried a blues junior and a ramparte and they both had a bit o the rattle? Orange definitely won’t rattle. They seem to be quality builds and sturdy. My little Greta is a tight build though and sounds aces!
To Bad Orange Dont make a 5 Watt tube Amp an imbreed between the champ and blues Jr with an 8" speaker Id jump on it I drive long haul and use a 1600 watt Inverter it would be perfect ..
If only it weren't 1300 bucks or so
and if it was $800, there'd be those that complain that it isn't $650. You can't tag a price on inspiration: it's either worth it to you or it isn't. There are THOUSANDS of amp options out there, at all different price points. People who get hung-up on the cost of something baffle me.
@@donkeydarko77 That wasn't a moralistic comment condemning a company for manufacturing a product at a certain pricepoint, it was a comment bemoaning that I like and admire the product and wish I were able to afford it. As for "can't put a price point on inspiration" or whatever, yes you can; its called an income-based budget. Most people have to deal with it.
Well….the cool thing is, these amps are still around 1300 bucks despite other companies increasing there prices. 1300 bucks doesn’t get you very far in 2023 gear world so now I think it’s a pretty fair price for what you get!
@@duderdudeedoo1984The uncool thing is that it is 'made in China, using Chinese components.' What exactly was the point of outsourcing manufacturing of products if it was not to maintain lower prices? They really couldn't make this in England, and sell it for that much?
Deluxe reverb totally destroyed
Fifty's style with a 200 watt spk ??? EL84s and weird graphics NOT....I ordered a Supro Blues King 12 myself Doesnt sound awful tho
The Tremlord sounds fucking great, probably at least as good as that Supro.
Can you play with a pick? Every time you pick by fingers it's a muddy kind of sound compared to using a pick. Your demoing in a way that most of us don't play giving it a different sound than what we would hear.
Plenty of other gear demos on RUclips if you don't like watching Andy play.
He's using one in parts, it's just see through. 😀
I've got some of the pedals Andy has demoed, and his playing has never deceived what they sounded like.
So change how he has played for the last, I don’t even know how many years, to satisfy the Stratocaster man. Makes sense.
Stratocaster Man - there are many well known guitarists that don't use a pick like Robbie Krieger, Mark Knopfler, Jeff Beck, Derek Trucks, Tommy Emmanuel to name a few. Would you ask them to use one?
Jay Harper
Yes! And, besides that excellent point, if one goes back through Andy's older demos, he's played some stuff that no one believes he isn't using a pick on.
It's a running gag, when new people find his demos.
Looks like that dude forgot his pick and had no time no go get any lol
I'm hoping you're joking yeah?
Dare you to use a pick
RhythmGrizz - there are many well known guitarists that don't use a pick like Robbie Krieger, Mark Knopfler, Jeff Beck, Derek Trucks, Tommy Emmanuel to name a few.
Tommy actually uses a thumb pick
Never has never will
So frustrating you spend 1200 euros on something and then have to guess what these knob symbol means. And apparently orange don't know how to draw a bloody spring. and what's up with the shark sign? so lame.... And orange products always look so cheap and plastic.
Got to be the dumbest comment on a gear video I've ever seen
@Ozlo Houser The two famous (and many more) amp companies use 'tremolo' 'reverb' for 'tremolo' and 'reverb'. Do you know how a counter example works? Do you know what universally means?
Autism is a hell of a drug.
@@donkeydarko77 runs in your family, so you would know.
Or you could take 30 seconds and read the manual.
