Crazy to think it’s been ten years since you introduced me to such an amazing artist. Ten years ago I was listening to this song strung out on whatever I could afford to shove up my nose and Canadian club. Thanks Anthony! And of course to Benjamin, Ashley and the rest of the band.
all love to you. my dad is at death's door. aged 80. no one dies well. please be making beautiful music like this at least until you are 80!! don't give up!!!!
He just writes the most amazing songs...I thought he said "choose" but ya.. There's a pair of dice, a loaded gun, baby me and you And you're sawing on a fiddle and I'm wondering which to shoot
Yep! Much better than all the radio country music out there. True and real stories sang by the people who experienced them. I am someone who absolutely cannot relate to his songs but just hearing him tell his story(s) is purely amazing.
Thanks to Gems we get to see these very great folk artists...thanks a lot ! A freakin real life washtub bass, wow! How many hats do Ashley and Ben have anyways ?
I absolutely love this band and I have been looking for this particular song off and on for over a week and couldn't think of the name. So I found a lot more musical artistry and mezmerizing melodic melancholy merriment along the way to this gem. Can't wait to see them in April.
I'm forever grateful for yall havin them on here and them playing music. I saw them on here and started plying harmonica and it's done wonders for my sanity, cheers to consistently great tunes guys- daniel smith
You two are really great. I heard your version of the mountain and have been listening to you all night through cooking dinner and now eating. Please keep it up .

Thinking of my brother who lost his mind because of drugs. He was going to be locked up yet again and chose to take that one last big hit, and that was it for him. For all the things he did to his family, I still miss him.
I think GemsOnVHS is a great way to discover new music. Much easier way too. Plus you get to watch cool videos. ;] We just posted a NEW Lost Dog video on the front page - check it out.
Man you guys are so good lol just so homesome ya know? Love this song... Been clean 2 years and I still see that needle and spoon in my dreams ... Y'all take care now
Good song, cool to see them when they were younger. I'm a bit distracted by the "wall of sound" quality of this arrangement, though there are some very sweet moments. Also, the one in the black dress is such a beauty!
Ben & His Lady’s music along with any accompanying musicians have gotten me through some rugged times. Clean for years now, but this shit brings back all the emotions of a reckless youth.
So happy you guys are getting the recognition your deserve finally. I hope to see you in St Louis on your tour with Devil Makes Three. Always will be one of my all time favorite bands.
This song physically hurts but I come around to it every so often. There was a time I was a junkie. It was as good as it was bad. I don't romanticize anymore. This song really captures a feeling few know.
im digging the new stuff. i know ben from eau claire area around 2010 or so. i still have a barefoot surrender cd floating around. i'd like to get able to get some recordings of you guys. hit me up if you can. travel well.
I was homeless in Boulder when I was 14(I'm 38 now) and I feel Like I met these guys. Maybe not. Kinda hazy. Sleeping atop Ben and Jerry's. Then. Or in the wonder bread truck.
Ben and Ashley are amazing people. Back in the day I met them and intuitive Compass way back in the day when they were still hitch hiking. I bought a CD from them and lost it during the show, went to go buy another and they refused to take my money even in a time I’m sure they could use it. Plus they’re cool as shit.
I been listening to this for years now and I just got the part he says wondering witch to shoot is referring to the gun or needle. Ha. Rich. Originally I assumed it was a debate between two substances lol
A good way to discover new music is the website reverb nation just search for lost dog. They got some songs on there and there is a bunch of other good bands on there i'm sure you'll like.
The first time I heard the words needle and spoon together in a song was “Dead Flowers” by The Rolling Stones. I've been following you ever since I accidentally saw the video for the TVZ version of “Waitin' Around To Die”. Excellent songs and excellent fiddle arrangements and great voice by Benjamin. Congratulations and best wishes from Barcelona.
@@forshitsandgiggles7523 Dead Flowers was written by Jagger and Richards, probably under the influence of Gram Parsons and Keith's love for Hank Williams from a young age. They had written country music before (Country Honk) and later also (Sweet Virginia, Far Away Eyes) always with a Bakersfield sound. It was written in 1969 and released in 1971, and it wasn't until 1991 that TVZ performed it brilliantly on their album "Roadsongs." ” It is curious that a British band has written, in my humble opinion, some of the best country songs in history, as it is that a British guitarist like Ron Wood plays the pedal steel as he does, or as another like Albert Lee has been named best country guitarist five times at Guitar Player Magazine, or for a fan from Barcelona like me to get to know TVZ's discography and even perform some of their songs.

From a dopefiend to a desperate hope fiend, Ben's songs always hit.

"Some days I get so thirsty I drink til I'm blind
I gave up on tomorrow, tonight"
Been there
Lol I already liked your comment and I tried liking it again.
Some of the best fiddle playin I've ever heard🙂
His voice cuts like a knife. Straight to your soul.
Rip nick
Unfortunatly; drugs, addiction and depression are the price we pay for great music.
Even worse is Many people go through these issues and don't even get great music out of it.
He's in recovery for quite some time though now thank goodness!
The hunger in my belly ain't quenched by fancy things, it's knowing that I'm free
Amazing talent that needs replace this new age crap music on radio, Steve you'r stories are true and meaningful god bless brother
Some memories lay heavy down on my mind
Some days I've cared and some days I'd rather die
Sometimes I get so thirsty that I drink 'til I'm blind
I gave up on tomorrow tonight
In my dreams there's a needle and a spoon
There's a pair of dice, a loaded gun, baby me and you
And you're sawing on a fiddle and I'm wondering which to shoot
Everything's so complicated now I am coming down
Looking for a means to a new end
All my friends are falling out or packing in
Yesterday I prayed that the sun would shine for you
As I watched the sky fade to blue
(Chorus)
Money never meant much to me
It came and it went and it never changed a thing
'Cause the hunger in my belly it ain't quenched by fancy things
It's knowing that I am free
(ChorusX2)
I can't tell you how many times I've listened to this song strung out hoping for better days, thank god today I have peace of mind.
I'm proud of you, friend.
And the same here.
It gets better.
Crazy to think it’s been ten years since you introduced me to such an amazing artist. Ten years ago I was listening to this song strung out on whatever I could afford to shove up my nose and Canadian club. Thanks Anthony! And of course to Benjamin, Ashley and the rest of the band.
Best version of this song, wish this one would be added to spotify as well
money never ment much to me, it came and went and didn't change a thing
wow after a year of listening to this, I realize they are with 13 strings and a 2 dollar bill. that's pretty awesome. two of the best together as one.
all love to you. my dad is at death's door. aged 80. no one dies well. please be making beautiful music like this at least until you are 80!! don't give up!!!!
the person who hit the unlike button must be comin' down.
No shit. Though this music will carry you through the worst times of gettin' clean. err...so a friend told me. Yeah.

A needle, pair of dice, loaded gun. All things you shoot. Clever
I honestly never picked up in this. Nice catch.
He just writes the most amazing songs...I thought he said "choose" but ya..
There's a pair of dice, a loaded gun, baby me and you
And you're sawing on a fiddle and I'm wondering which to shoot
Rae Bies fuck Yeah finally I understand this line. Thanks buds
I think we’re forgetting that “baby, me and you” are two other things that we could possibly shoot.
Yep! Much better than all the radio country music out there. True and real stories sang by the people who experienced them. I am someone who absolutely cannot relate to his songs but just hearing him tell his story(s) is purely amazing.
A mans life story is just as important as the songs
he writes, and yall have a good one.
I fucking love you guys, you've seriously brought me thru so much in life through your songs. Thank you
That dog at the beginning is living his best life.

This is how I found gems and will be forever my favorite version of this song
I'm more than a little fascinated by the waves on the fiddle strings during Ashley's solo.
It's like the shutter rate was just right to catch the tune of each string mutch like a oscilloscope
This song got me through some real tough times. Very relatable. I adore lost dog
Wow how young were ashley and ben
19 or 20 or
My buddy Dillion played with them like 10 years ago
He passed last year, but every time I hear this
I think of him
Love this music
@@Isogrnrgrass Sorry about your friend. RIP DILLON
@@Isogrnrgrass your buddy must’ve been a pretty damn good musician to have been plucking with Ben! Hope your friend is resting easy 🙏
Brings me back, to really good and bad memories... "In my dreams, theres a needle and a spoon, a pair of dice, a loaded gun and baby me and you.."
Pure genius, the lyrics, the gritty arrangements and the overall look of the band...WELL DONE!!!
Its cool seeing Ben and Ashley with Wyatt and Nora Jean but i wish he would have recognized them in his intro. They deserve more recognition
check out his new stuff. look for LOST DOG on facebook. we also just posted a new video of LOST DOG on youtube here.

This song certainly eases the agony of coming down.
What happened to the girl with mando and the banjo guy. Are they still rockin on
Sitting on the corner
Playing away the blues
I'll bring the washboard
You bring the booze
I'll join that group
Pay me in jabs and booze
Another lost dog
With nothing to lose
Ketamine
Has her gun to my head
Boys you know the end I'd choose
Sobriety
I've lost me
Standing in an ocean
Waves overtaken me
Find the bottle
It's running on empty
I'm drowning
standing on my own two feet
I wanna fold
Break at the seams
Ms ketamine
What have you done to me
I can't sleep
I can't eat
Your just a part of me
Ms ketamine
Let me go
I need sleep
Another drink
The days blur
Into one nightmare
I can't find my feet
Sobriety
Is a joke
I just want my keep
Days melt together
Sitting losing sleep
What is this from?
please tell us !
The Patient View are these lyrics you wrote?
His songwriting is like a punch to the gut. Every time. God I love this.
Looks like this was a few tattoos ago. Love the music, keep up the good work!
You helped me more then words can describe. Everyone has their story of suck, this no pitty party. I just feel the need to repay you. Ill build whatever you want for free. Just give me a place to sleep, something to eat and drink while i do it for you two. The least i can do. Whenever wherever!!
Gems on VHS, this is the best recording of this brilliant song
Thinking of my brother who lost his mind because of drugs. He was going to be locked up yet again and chose to take that one last big hit, and that was it for him. For all the things he did to his family, I still miss him.

Brilliant. I would have loved harmonies on the chorus.
Appreciate the comment. We try to showcase many independent and new artists. Feel free to subscribe and check in for new ones all the time.
Nothing like a good old fashioned string band
Good song, cool to see them when they were younger. I'm a bit distracted by the "wall of sound" quality of this arrangement, though there are some very sweet moments. Also, the one in the black dress is such a beauty!
Like the way the camera picks up the fiddle strings vibration @2:00
I would say this is my favourite lost dog song but then I say that for most of their songs.
I'm requesting a new video. This song would be amazing to listen to, hear, feel in 2020.
I've been listening to these guys for two weeks straight.
Did you ever end up buying their records?
i'm at 3 months straight

I wish his vocals were stronger in this one. The music kind of overpowers his voice.
These will be the folk songs of the next generation someday.
You are an amazing song writer. Dude I listen to you like maybe I'm an addict too maybe.........😎
