- Title screens might seem like nothing more than a simple menu system, but they can be one of the most memorable and impactful parts of a good video game. In this video I'll be going over some of my favorite examples of title screens and discussing why they can be so powerful. Thanks for Watching!

So happy you gave Xenoblade's title screen the praise it deserves. If I may share another stand out title screen, Final Fantasy VI's is ingrained in my memory for being so different from most of the other classic FF games. The slow build of the music while the camera pans down on a stormy purple sky, then the loud and ominous choir kicks in as the flaming logo stretches out and reveals itself. And without spoiling anything for people who haven't played the game, hearing that song again later in the adventure is goosebumps-worthy. Makes the title screen all the more memorable.
XC1 title screen ❤
When you mentioned Mario games where the title screen transitions directly into gameplay, I am surprised you did not mention SMB1. They had to put a lot of effort into that huge sprite, considering the NES hardware ;) Animal Crossing does that too with your actual village, which is nice.
The Fire Emblem series has a few cool title screens too. I like Fates', how it transitions from the end of the opening movie. Shadows of Valencia is also very nice, especially if you finish the game.
Another one that I really enjoyed, but mostly for the music and atmosphere: The Pathless. The song "None have returned" foreshadows the sinister setting of the game and is very unique. The lyrics are in a Mongolian dialect, or something like that, but I don't have the lyrics sadly.
Xenoblade has to have my favourite title screen of all time. Every time I pick up the game, I’m incapable of starting until I’ve heard the main theme all the way through. It’s the definition of beautify in simplicity.
Great video!
What an original idea for a video! Really look forward to watch
Yeah, I agree. He always has so creative and cool video ideas!
My favorite types of title screens are where it shows characters doing something in the background. Like how Bug Fables has the main characters talking to each other in it's title screen, or how Kirby Star Allies shows various characters walking across the screen and doing little poses. I don't if this makes any sense but that's the best I can explain it.
I LOVE Outer Wilds and I really appreciate that more people than just me have played it. An absolutely underrated and underplayed game.
what? did you think you were the only person to have ever played it?
There's just something iconic about Ocarina of Times Title Screen it sets up the adventure before it begins not to mention the music sets the mood for it to which is why I love Ocarina of Time.
Fun fact about Ocarina of Time's title screen: It's actually possible to PLAY as that Link by messing around with the game's code a bit. Title Screen Link has every adult item in the game but none of them are upgraded and he didn't collect any of the spiritual stones so he can't put the Master Sword back. SwankyBox did a video on this.
I’ve never really noticed how intricate the title screens were.
One that always stands out to me is the Spyro 1 intro and title screen. Love how it kind of introduces us to the world and enemies as they run across the screen while you're choosing your save file. I was so upset that they didn't remake it for the Reignited Trilogy!
Great video as always, love your love and respect for the parts of games that aren't often talked about!
I would say my favorite title screens would be from the Mega Man Zero games with Zero 4 being my favorite. Seeing small images of the plot important characters before the number 4 spins around and 3 orange slashes that form a Z to open up to the game's logo all while the music goes from being suspenseful to rocking out near the end really sets up the most important and epic adventure this franchise has ever seen. And it's on Game Boy Advance of all things. But my favorite from Nintendo might just be Kirby's Return to Dreamland. Starting it out with the camera focused on the Nintendo and HAL logos before panning out to see Kirby flying on a warp star and catching his friends and ending with that really nice logo animation. Also it has personality with Dedede making funny faces at Kirby and Waddle Dee laughing as well as Meta Knight's disappointment.
Three years ago, while I was playing other games my brother was playing Xenoblade Chronicles 2, but I would see him play some times. I always liked the title screen, the music, but it was for me just a mere tramit to the game. To be honest, somehow, I didn't even realise it was changing the picture with every chapter. However, the day he finished the story, after all the chills of the last scenes and the credits, it came back to the title screen. At that time I realised the wonder I had had before my eyes. The beauty I'd been listening to all the time. "Where We Used To Be". Chills... Spectacular.
9:22 Wow, that is put so well. Gaming is such a large part of our life that literally enriches us with awesome experiences.
Here are a few of my personal favorite title screens:
I looooove Daemon X Machina's title screen. The music is so epic. The slow start with piano and then exciting rise as the orchestra creeps in and eventually burst out into something that sounds like it'd be in a movie. And footage they show behind the X is perfect. Perfectly showing off what's in store for you without spoiling too much (all though the story isn't the best, it's still appreciate)
Pokemon X and Y just had this incredible theme that made it feel so whimsical. Same with Sun and Moon and Black and White. It captured the magical essence of the pokemon series most out of all the games imo.
Xenoblade X was my favorite of the xeno games because of the leviathans flying over as Elma, Lin, and Cross look over NLA with a skell standing over them. That, accompanied by Hiroyuki Sawano's unforgettable style of music, brought me to tears.
Sonic colors is my favorite, once again for the music. Also seeing the wisp play around as they follow sonic. THAT made my childhood.
All animal crossing games have good title screens. Period.
Miitopia is very memorable and cheery. I love that vibe and that the scenery and music changes based on where you were last.
Twilight princess is my absolute favorite from the zelda series.
The bakugan battle brawlers game for the wii is simply very nostalgic to me
This last one isn't well known, but this dungeons and dragons game called Neverwinter Nights is one of my favorites, simply because the music always made me feel so excited to play the game again and again. The sound effects for the menu was perfect and the art in the background was always impeccable.
How could I forget Miitopia. Such a great title screen.
@@Multimonata For real, I often found myself returning to the title screen everytime I entered a new area just to hear what the song was like.
I think one of my underrated (and fairly unknown) favorites title screens is CrossCode. For such an amazing game, the screen is wonderfully simple and relaxing. Lea silently watching the horizon while the relaxing music soothes you is just wonderful. It's also really nice if you play the demo and then the full game, the action and opening of the demo interrupted by the title screen. It forces you to take a few breaths and stop to look at the beautiful artwork, which is something that you then hopefully take with you into each session: Stop and look at the game around you, listen to the music, sit back and watch the characters interact.
Other favorites include Wii Sports Resort, KSP, and for peak nostalgia Battlefield 2.
I've spent hours on mario galaxy title screen. The music is mesmerizing. And Twilight princess ! That transition between wolf link and midna's theme as an eerie chorus grows, revealing the title .... goosebumps. For non nintendo title screen, I want to mention Chicory and Omori, which both change as the story progresses. Any from soft title screen, as simple as they are, have a music that put you right into the dramatic ambiance. Skyrim and oblivion did that too.
The first Ori game has an amazing title screen too. And bindind of Isaac rebirth ! Oh, and a hat in time too ! And mario kart 8. And ... etc.
He're a fun fact about myself: even though I had heard of Xenoblade previously from friends and I had basically zero interest in knowing more about it, after I happened to watch a video of the title screen, I IMMEDIATELY went to play it the next day. It was just that impactful.
i just wanna give you props for syncing the background to the music even though you had no reason to and few would notice it
I love original splatoon's title screen a lot. I agree Wii sports title screen is fantastic.
Great video! Such an under appreciated part of video games. You covered a lot of my favourites such as Luigi's Mansion, Super Mario Galaxy and Wii Sports Resort. I think my favourite one of all time has to be Halo 3's it just gets me emotional about the glory days of Xbox Live back in like 2007
Great video man! I agree Xenoblade is one of the best, if not the best!
Dude throwing not just the Minecraft title screen, but for the WiiU?!? Mad lad.
i would love to see a video in your nostalgia rewind about mario galaxy or mario stricker wii
This is an incredibly well done video - you made me a fan of Xenoblade just by showing the title screen.
I think that the Omori title screen is pretty great. It starts by just showing white space, not revealing much. While later on it changes as you progress and really sets a tone for the gameplay.
I sat at that title screen for an actual hour. The simplicity and music just caught me and held me captive
This is a really great video, you basically hit all the examples I always show to people lol
I know Pokémon gets enough praise already but one of my personal favorite title screens is the one from Pokémon sapphire. aside from the opening movie which is also a favorite of mine, having the legendary of that game completely submerged in water is way cooler then other Pokémon games who just have the legendary as a 3-D model.
Really helpful bit of research there! Thanks
Man you're so underrated, your videos are all so interesting and your voice is great for this job! I wish you all the best!!
Finally a decent RUclips suggestion! Very interesting video!!
Shoutout to Xenoblade 2 for having my favourite menu screen of all time. The beautiful background vignettes changing with each chapter of the game is great, each one characterizes that part of the story and level design, and it has the best menu music ever.
The super metroid ones always gives me the chills
Of the ones you did not list my favoites Command and Conquer Generals, C&C Red Alert all of them, C&C Renegade and Reneagde X both multiplayer and singleplayer, Battlefield any of them but the best are 1943 and Bad company 2, Battletech(2018),Textris Gameboy, Super Mario bros deluxe, Super Mario Sunshine and Mario and Lugi partners in Time, Cross code, Ara fell,
Kerbal Space Program, The RWBY games all of them namely Grimm Eclipse, Anmity Area, Freedom wings, Acecombat all of them... And really so much more! It's some easly done badly but rarely is and devs should really think about them.
I'm SO happy to see CrossCode mentioned here. It's wonderfully simple, but perfectly nails the feel of the game. I can easily sit and listen to the music without realizing it. It's just so pretty.
And hell yes, KSP's theme blasting in with a view of Jeb and Kerbin is probably the best description of KSP ever. Immense and insane boldness that will stop for nothing, even space.
Xenoblade one title screen on the wii made me cried
I would said all the Animal Crossing tittle screens are amazing because of the music. It just welcomes you into town.
I think that this video is a sequel to the nintendo magic video.
You make S tier videos
I have all 3 of the Xenoblade games set as live backgrounds on my laptop.
Make a video about the reveal trailer of nintendo switch sports!
the nier ones (automata/replicant), while simple, get me every time they change. seeing the lunar tear on the automata screen.......
When did Xenoblade X had that title screen?
Coming soon: the importance of credits in video games
But I suppose there could also be a video titled "The importance of logos in video games" or something.
Starfield should learn
Do you actually sound like ms word is your dad and siri is your mom?? So damn robotic…
