My Altima has been making this sound when coming to a stop, and it's just gotten worse. No other videos on RUclips talk about how to rectify this issue. This sound started after replaced the pads .. I did everything right ...the only thing i didn't do is to clean the old grease ....for now i just spray with WD 40 all the moving parts of the caliper and the sound is gone. Thank you so much.
thanks man!!!! couldn't find a video with the same sound, sound of a couch with bad springs 🤣🤣🤣 I'm getting this sound on my 05 Golf, front driver side. I'll be working on it this week
Thanks ! For the video !!! I did my front pads and rotors on my 2011 outlander sport, and used spray silicone wd40 for the pins and every time since when I go to the drive thru for my coffee I hear that god dammnnn creaking 😤😂lol, and I have pulled that wheel off about 4 times too look again and again! But this time I pulled the calliper bracket off used brake clean for the slide pin holes then lubed it up with silicone grease made sure they slid good-they did like butter 😉at first upon removal they were really tight because I think the spray wd40 evaporated from the braking heat, but I went for a test drive stopped like 30 times and gone just like magic well not really… I should have used the proper grease… but at last quiet brakes ahhhhh 🤗 so again thanks for the video and I wish you to never have brake noise again AMEN. 😉😂
I'll add a quick tip of my own straight from the shop. I usually use a soft nylon pipe cleaner, about a 1/4 inch in diameter, to clean out all the crap that accumulates inside the "bore" where the caliper pins do there work. Do this with brake cleaner and compressed air a few times while looking inside after each pass just to check your progress. NEVER use a drill bit to do this! I've seen a lot of guys do it. It might be faster but your also chewing up the steel and boring out the bore even further. You do not want the pins slapping around inside easily. If it can be compared to throwing a hot dog down a hallway ( kind of like your ex) then this is bad. The soft nylon, rounded brush, will not damage the internal part of the bracket and can actually bring it back to a polished shine. Have fun!! Be careful!
bronze brush chucked up in a drill is fine. anything that it will remove is already going to just contribute to further corrosion and gunk build up anyhow. pack the bore with grease while you have the boot off, push the pin down in and clean off the excess replace boot and put it back together.
This noise messed me up because I was literally a tech. So, one day, I put my car up on a lift, checked all four corners, cleaned the crap out of everything I could touch at the wheels, as far as brakes were concerned. I soaked the slide pins, replaced the pad clips, greased all points to the best of my ability, aaaand... then it started happening again, after a few days. To be clear, I'm quite certain the video's solution is the correct one, I think I just have a gremlin or two. Edit: your caliper piston can produce this shitty sound if it needs a rebuild.
Yes.. come to think of it, this sounds like it could be my problem when I am parked and applying brake I can here it creaking...I will certainly clean and relube the slide pins. Great job 👌👍
dunno if anyone gives a shit but if you're bored like me atm then you can watch pretty much all of the new movies and series on Instaflixxer. I've been streaming with my brother for the last few weeks :)
My car started making that creaking noise really bad at low speeds when I applied and unapplied the brakes. I wasn't sure what would cause that. I'll try lubing up the slide pins over Christmas weekend and see if it fixes the issue. Thanks for the video!
I've been having a creaking issue for months now on my Civic. I've tried 2 different calipers and everything is lubed up but creaking comes back when brakes warm up. Any suggestions? Car is sold old no mechanics will work on it.
My Hyundai accent 2012 makes similar noise on ingress and exit with hand brake engaged. It also does the same when on an inclined surface while breaking and turning.
I think this is probably what's wrong with my brakes. I had new pads and rotors installed and then started noticing this creaking/squeaking sound when braking hard at low speeds
I had similar creaking brake pedal noise but this extra info might help viewers. My signs included more brake dust on the front driver side than the other. At highway speed, between 50 and 55 mph (I never was able to do 60 mph - I stayed at 40 mph max), the front driver side wheel would vibrate under my foot as if the rotor was loose and/or bent. Most times I felt the vibration in the steering wheel. Vibration stopped when I slowed down. When I took out the tire, my slide pins were fine but the caliper piston was stuck stiff like hell. I started the car and pumped the brake pedal a little to push out the piston some 1.5 - 2 inches to expose the piston. There was heavy build-up rust on the piston sliding surface. As a temporary measure (ultimate solution is replace or repair if you can), I parted the piston boot with a flathead screwdriver, Cleaned off as much rust as I could and instilled generous amount of WD40 into the space. After returning the piston with a C-clamp (not an easy task), I pumped the braked pedal to push the piston out again. The WD40 that came out was also rusty. Finally, I compressed the piston and put everything back. I wish to report that the creaking noise has disappeared. And for the first time in over 3 weeks, the handling was smooth. I was able to do 70 mph + without vibrations. It is interesting how, in other videos with similar noise, spraying the moving parts/joints of the brake pedal with some lubricant solved the problem. My thought is that if there is a combo of the creaking pedal noise, excessive one-sided brake dust, and vibration at highway speed, the culprit would most like be a stuck piston.
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I got back from work and started to hear this noise at 9pm and it took me until 1am in the morning to find your video, I added some grease in the pins and coated everything in WD40 hahaha CREAKING GONE!! i can sleep now 😴

Hey there, thanks for your video it’s very good to watch as someone doesn’t know much about the car… just wondering if it makes sense if my mechanician said the noise might due to the issue of my vaccine pump? Unfortunately it didn't resolve the issue for me. The slides looked brand new with no corrosion. I replaced them and used the same lube as you. Once they heated up the creaking came back. Any other suggestions?
Hey man thanks for the video. I just had rear rotors and pads replaced as well as a fluid flush. The creaking noise when releasing the brake pedal began immediately after. Would you recommend greasing all of the pins on each tire or just the rear ones that just got replaced?
Couldn't hurt to do them all. But if the fronts are quiet you could probably just wait till it's time to do the front pads unless they start getting noisy before then.
I have a problem where I hear a loud creaking sound when braking even when the car has completely stopped I press on the brakes and hear a loud creaking sound it sounds like a door hinge that needs to lubed any recommendations ? Also the brake pads and rotors are completely fine I just can't find what's wrong with it
Lubing the pins should help. What you're describing sounds exactly like what mine were doing. Also make sure there's not stuff built up between the pads and caliper. Been told that can cause the noise as well.
Exactly my problem now If cleaning and lubbing does not help maybe the piston inside of the caliper is the blame. Besides if the car is old everything is worn down and there may be a lot of play between all parts and they are not moving like they supposed to. May I ask what solved your problem?

@the budget minded motorist hi I have a question Iam having a creaking noise when the car is stationary and I turned the wheels I thought is was only from one side but it do it in both side only when is stationary I did changed the strut and strut mounts fews months ago all other suspensions parts are new like end link , bar bushing outer tie rod and brake I almost check everything and I can’t find where the noise is coming from if you have any suggestions will be very appreciated.
I have the same issue on my car, when stationary and I turn the steering, when it gets at max right or max left I hear a creaking noise at the back wheels
!!!Please help!!! My break have the similar noise but it doesn't make the noise when press/release break pedal, it make the noise when the car start to move(louder) or come to a stop(not so loud)! I went to shop to have my break checked, cleaned, lubricated and still have the same noise! It make me want to get rid of the car!!! please help!!! Thank you!!!
It happens. If it makes you feel better, I didn't think to do it either when I installed the lift kit on my Ram. Additional things like that can be easy to forget when you're focused on getting the bigger task done right. Kiddos on doing the lift yourself!
Think I may have this problem. Creaking noise when gently applying brake. Also sometimes get a repetitive squeak sound when driving, especially when turning left.
How could this happen when we purchased a new car and took it from the dealer with an initial km reading of 20km and there's a creaking sound when break is applied when the car was on shop's exit ramp..
Thanks for sharing this video. My Mitsubishi Outlander 2011 creaks ( a bit deeper sound) when depressing breaks on fullstop and truning left. Do you think it's the same case?
My case was creaking at a dead stop when pressing and releasing the brakes. Turning didn't seem to create any noise though. It likely could be the same case, but I'd also hate for you to go through the trouble and it not fix it. Up to you if you want to give it a shot, I just can't promise anything regarding the noise when turning.
Im getting same with my suzuki aerio/liana estate. Creaks when turning and braking at same time coming to a stop. Does it occasionaly when braking to a straight stop. Im going to grease the back of the brake pad that sits in front of the piston and re grease my slider pins see how it goes.
ruclips.net/video/8qCWckDLXi4/видео.html does your issue sound like the video above? if so could be rotors (warpage), hub/barrings via this video ruclips.net/video/AgBmFCH8rgA/видео.html
My truck sounds like this when I drive it and when I turn at lower speeds. Could it be the brakes or wheel bearings? It’s very noticeable after the 3rd day
Generally from what I understand wheel bearings tend to be more of a rumble, but I so suppose anything is possible. If it's making creaking noises when turning I would take a look at the tie rod ends and possibly the ball joints. Sometimes moisture can find it's way into the joints and begin to corrode the bearing surfaces inside causing the noise, or sometimes the grease in them just doesn't lubricate any more leading to creaks and such. Hopefully this helps get you started in the right direction. Thanks for watching.
I have a 2012 cts base model. I get these sounds when going down hill slowly and brake. Sounds exactly like the beginning example sound. It doesn’t do it at idle. Can this be my problem? Idk if its my breaks or ball joints
If it's not making noise at a stand still, I'd lean more towards looking at the suspension components. Could be ball joints like you said, or another suspension component getting a little dry and creaking as the breaking load is happening. Sounds like you're on the right track 👍
Has any one have this issue with fixed calipers. My Acura RL calipers on my TSX are doing the same. They don’t have slider pins. This is starting to get super annoying. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
I have a 2009 Nitro RT 4x4 that makes a loud creaking noise when releasing the brakes. I did a complete brake job by replacing the calipers, rotors and ceramic pads all the way around the car. I used high end ceramic pads and Mopar calipers. The noise went away for about two days and now it's back as loud as ever. Anyone else ever have this problem and find a fix for it?
Hi , I have the same sound coming when either the brake(car angle depresses) or the accelerator(car angle raises) is pressed . The sound comes only when the car is moving And not on standstill. Please advise
If it doesn't make noise when stopped, it could be a bushing or something else in the suspension needs lube or replacement. That's where I'd start looking first.
The sound started coming when the vehicle was 3 months old . Since it is a new car , can it be a manufacturing defect? It has gone 3 times for rectification of the same 2 times they greased the brakes , the sound reappeared next day. 3rd time they unscrewed the lower body and rescrewed it. It was this time that the the sound disappeared for around 2 weeks but reappeared again
@@sukairo if there's plenty of fluid and the brakes have been bled to ensure there isn't any air in the lines, the master cylinder is where I'd look next for sure too. Sounds like you're on the right track!
I can hear the creaking noise from the back of my car but it only happens when the car is moving and breaking down to a hold. So I suspect suspension issues but I'm not sure. It doesn't seem to come from one specific side. Any idea?
If it's not the brakes causing your symptoms, It could be suspension related. Perhaps a worn or failing suspension bushing. I know diagnosing sounds like that can be really frustrating to locate and diagnose. But if there's anyway you can try to replicate the noise with the car parked it might help. Maybe set the parking brake and push forward and backward on the car and see if you can hear any movement or creaking in the suspension.
I was going down the road at like 45 mph I went thru a back roads inter section I hit a bump ended up in the air and in the opposite lane scared the shit on me
I'm sorry to hear that. Does it make the noise when the vehicle is sitting still and you press the brakes? Or only when the vehicle is coming to a stop?
So my car recently just made this noise . I just put new rotors and pads and cleaned and re greased everything : pins included. Sooo anyone got any other ideas lol ?

Seems like creak Noise goes away after brakes are warmed up. Only put 50 miles on new brakes, just changed brakes yesterday. I also lubed everything including pins. I did not clean out the pin hole on bracket with a rag Could Not cleaning out the slide pin hole on bracket, or using too much silicone lube on pin cause the issue ??

My breaks was making noise whenever letting off the breaks 2013 RAV4 we live in north so winter is bad on cars 😮 I believe I’m going to change the front then the back calipers,
@the budget minded motorist hi I have a question Iam having a creaking noise when the car is stationary and I turned the wheels I thought is was only from one side but it do it in both side only when is stationary I did changed the strut and strut mounts fews months ago all other suspensions parts are new like end link , bar bushing outer tie rod and brake I almost check everything and I can’t find where the noise is coming from if you have any suggestions will be very appreciated.
I have the same issue on my car, when stationary and I turn the steering, when it gets at max right or max left I hear a creaking noise at the back wheels
Pretty simple fix, I hope that's gonna be the case for my 2004 Mazda 3 that has never seen any maintenance from the previous owner...smh.
Same thing I said when I bought my highlander
I have this sound when I press the brakes and full lock the wheels. Could it be this causing it?
Does this sound happen even when not applying the breaks . Let’s say just turning the steering wheel ? Or is my problem ball joints / tie rods
Sounds like you're on the right track. If it's not happening when you press or release the break pedal, I'd guess ball joints or tie rod ends.
Having this noise on my brembo calipers, since its a fixed caliper in not sure what to do apart from greasing the pad pins
Did a lift on my Jeep and of course skipped a caliper inspection. Three months later what do ya know, creaky calipers. Live and learn I guess.
Same! Did you figure out what it was? It’s only right front side
Yes that's my issue after new pads and rotors were installed!i returned to the shop and they said everything's fine. I don't get it.
My break calipers ten years old we changed pads and rotors and clean them but we missed this part 😢
How could this happen when we purchased a new car and took it from the dealer with an initial km reading of 20km and there's a creaking sound when break is applied when the car was on shop's exit ramp..
Hello Chris, I got new car two days ago and it makes the same cracking sound while breaking and turning, did you figure a solution? Thank you
I suppose if they still don't wanna move may need new calipers?
That's probably the next best bet if they're still sticking.
New pads, rotors, calipers.. No runout at all. Flush pad contact.. Has the creaks, unfixable even with reversing the spring hardware..
So I literally just had this problem and my too bolt was dry as a bone. Problem fixed.
Glad it's all better!
i got the same sound on a 4 piston caliper
so no pilot bolt wich could cause the cracking sound
Never thought sticking pins would cause a creak sound. Usually uneven pad wear would be the result. Where was the sound coming from?
From the pins.
What if I did this but they looked like they were rubbing so I replaced them but I’m still hearing the noise?
Im going to grease the back of the brake pad that sits in front of the piston and re grease my slider pins see how it goes.

does your issue sound like the video above?
if so could be rotors (warpage), hub/barrings via this video ruclips.net/video/AgBmFCH8rgA/видео.html
Was that the problem?
@@leethatsme1988did it work?
My mustang does this right now. Even the squeak squeak squeak while driving. Gonna address soon
Broooooo my mustang just started this month. Driving me fucking crazy
Find desert when I'm stationary also pour in the Drive-Thru line cut the brakes I get that sound
No need to press in the piston before reinstalling the pads?
usually I can slip the caliper back on without compressesing the piston if the pads aren't being changed.
@@TheBudgetMindedMotorist oh ok cool!! I really appreciate you making this video it helped me out alot because my 2018 silverado is making this noise
What it needs ? A caliper?
Hi ,
I have the same sound coming when either the brake(car angle depresses) or the accelerator(car angle raises) is pressed .
The sound comes only when the car is moving
And not on standstill.
Please advise
If it doesn't make noise when stopped, it could be a bushing or something else in the suspension needs lube or replacement. That's where I'd start looking first.
I would just have them take a look at it under warranty.
The sound started coming when the vehicle was 3 months old .
Since it is a new car , can it be a manufacturing defect?
It has gone 3 times for rectification of the same
2 times they greased the brakes , the sound reappeared next day.
3rd time they unscrewed the lower body and rescrewed it.
It was this time that the the sound disappeared for around 2 weeks but reappeared again
@@simarmendiratta7387 what was the issue?
Literally burned all my 10 fingers touching my brake parts to find the noise 😅
I'll admit, I've forgotten brakes get hot a time or two as well. 😆 Hope it's not too bad!
@@TheBudgetMindedMotorist all good! I’m glad I found this video I’ll be referring back to it soon 😂
@@TheBudgetMindedMotorist welp it was my call joints…
Would this make my brakes sink to the floor?
No, this definitely wouldn't cause that.
@@TheBudgetMindedMotorist thanks, I think it might be my master brake cylinder as well
@@sukairo if there's plenty of fluid and the brakes have been bled to ensure there isn't any air in the lines, the master cylinder is where I'd look next for sure too.
I was going down the road at like 45 mph I went thru a back roads inter section I hit a bump ended up in the air and in the opposite lane scared the shit on me
Seems like all fords sounds like this . I’m on my 3rd ford in 10 years all of them made that noise after a few years .
Sooo I did exactly the same way the noise still there I grease everything it’s so frustrating. :(
I'm sorry to hear that. Does it make the noise when the vehicle is sitting still and you press the brakes? Or only when the vehicle is coming to a stop?
@@TheBudgetMindedMotorist coming to a stop I think is the piston seal are gone. :(
So my car recently just made this noise . I just put new rotors and pads and cleaned and re greased everything : pins included. Sooo anyone got any other ideas lol ?
Have the same issue 2012 accord new akebono pads and acdelco gold rotors. The Noise occurs when *slowly letting off the brake from a compete stop. Seems like creak Noise goes away after brakes are warmed up. Only put 50 miles on new brakes, just changed brakes yesterday. I also lubed everything including pins. I did not clean out the pin hole on bracket with a rag
Could Not cleaning out the slide pin hole on bracket, or using too much silicone lube on pin cause the issue ??
Nope. I greased the slider pins and it still makes the creaking/groaning noise. 😔
one of the comments says lower control arm bushing issue.
Title should have been how to fix creaking caliper brakes. No mention of drums here at all!
In my case the problem was the lugnuts not being tight....
Simple fix but not good
