Some genius somewhere in Europe once said "Let's strap a gun to a plane."
In America someone said "Let's strap a plane to a gun". (And got the A-10 for it).
The A-10 Warthog is the closest thing to a living dragon.
True
That thing would make a dragon shit itself.
no but the ac-130 is
It's a bloody flying tank
Congratulations on the best RUclips comment I have ever read.
Love the Warthog as well! It’s been said, “If you hear the Bbbrrrrahhhp of the A10, you were not the target”! It’s an infantryman’s Warbird! Love it!
I love it too
i was a tanker....much love !!!!
Idk who you are or why you're being recommended but if we're gonna watch A-10s together I'm in.
@@seanbailey1901 😂Thanks
They always say it's ugly, but any machine that is so perfectly matched to it's intended purpose and performs just about flawlessly is stunningly beautiful in my book.
I agree
Absolutely agree
F-15 pilot "That's an ugly plane!"
A-10 pilot "It wasn't built to do pretty things."
Exactly
Infantry Lance Corporal: It's the most beautiful plane I've ever heard
Our ground troops love these things. Brings new meaning to ground support. The flying machine gun. Fires 30mm uranium depleted rounds the size of coke bottles .
I love the A-10. I first fell in love with when reading, "The Hunt for Red October" In the book the A-10 is used to let the Soviet navy know that US reservists had the equipment and skill to sink them. A group of Warthog did a very close fly over and dropped flares on top of the Soviet ships. I recommend anyone who hasn't should read the novel.
On a personal note, one day I was standing in a rural parking lot. An A-10 was on maneuvers. I cannot say for certain the next was centered on me but it sure felt like it. The plane pivoted in a circle around me. The nose of the plane never wavered from the center of the circle. I have no doubt that anything in the path of that cannon would have been hamburger at best.
#No more talkin lets go.
The Warthog has got to be one of if not the coolest plane ever
A little info on the A-10. The last A-10 was built in 1984. That means that it is over 40 years old and still none replaceable plane. For those of us that were on the ground, we will fight for it to never be retired by the junk they try to say can replace it.
The A-10 has 3 systems to control the aircraft. 2 hydraulic systems that are cross connected and a manual back up cable wire system ala WW2 planes. If one of the hydraulic systems gets shot out the second can still provide basic control of the flight surfaces. If the entire hydraulic system is gone the plane can still be manually controlled, difficult and hard work but do able.
If the elctrics are gone there still is the basic 4 instruments to use: magnetic compass, altimeter, airspeed indicator and clock.
Thanks for the information
I have been told by my uncle who was a lifer in the air force from I want to say from the Korean war, they built they ammo, then they built the gun, then they built the plane around the gun. I want to say they limit the gun to 150 rounds because if they shot everything in the stores the plane would stall and move backwards then fall to the ground.
If you are forced to revert to cable control you are pretty much limping it home.
Actually it’s 2 hydroelectric systems per engine. 4 systems total. 2 for each side.
@@TheDonsChannel It was also built around the gun
Living near Hershey Pa for most of my life the sight and sounds of the A-10s are almost as normal as crickets lol. Every time I hear them it makes me feel safe!
BRRRT is the only real reason to love that sexy beast. Still love hearing the impacts of the rounds before the report of the gun.
Those on the ground will always need support. This plane has proven it is the best we ever had in that capacity. This is one plane that should never be retired. It needs to be put back into full production.
The Apache is disgusting too 🔥
Let's give it to the Marines
I watched (Southern Indiana) a squad of A-10's do a strafing run and then F-16's doing the same. The A-10's were tree top lever and there was only a few seconds between the first aircraft and then the next one. The F-16's had to use more airspace to complete their turns before releasing ordinance. The brat-tat-tat-tat was unmistakable even if I could not see it. I will never forget sitting on the porch and looking straight up to see an F-16 in a hard turn. I could clearly see the pilot!
I really enjoyed your enthusiasm for the A10 warthog. I live in Maryland of the U.S and my wife’s uncle worked for Fairchild Republic and specifically the Prototype and early A10’s until Fairchild was bought out. He was really proud of that aircraft.
It is a brilliant example that good form should always reflect function
👍🏻
I was once driving on I-10 on my way back from LA to Phoenix, when 4 A-10s passed over me, from my right rear to my left front, no more than 500’ above me.
When I realized what planes they were, I quickly said a small prayer:
Thank you God, I’m not a target
Thank you God, I’m not a target
Thank you God, I’m not a target
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I am SO happy they finally upgraded all of the A-10’s getting the digital display/heads up helmets with all their targeting info, no mor black markers needed for the Gun, link into the sensor fusion network , ability to fire and direct laser guided. Awesome! One of my top 3 jets for sure if not my favorite.
It will be unbelievable
Not to mention the slight redesign in appearance. Makes it far more angular, but that's for radar reasons. The updated versions kind of look a lot 'sleeky' and somehow 'slender' than the older versions.
Best guy on the net...no more talking....lets go!!
😄. Thank you Peter
What a coincidence. Strange as it sounds this "A-10" video just popped up in my recommendations. When it did I thought of you. It's a good thing I ignored it and waited a few minutes. Now you get the 👍 instead of the other guy.
😄. Thank you very much
I gave both a thumbs up. And let the original play in a separate tab muted. Everybody wins!
I remember at some point the Air force wanted to retire it. The Army then said we want it. I never heard what happened but the infantryman's best friend is still in service.
What an admirable ugly duckling. It almost wasn't built because a certain General didn't like the look of the design. The most feared airplane in the world. I think I heard it's undefeated. The God of the skies.
It is undefeated😎
7 were shot down during Desert Storm.
It's not for dog fighting. It's been shot down plenty.
It’s been shot down. But it can take a beating
@@cojoe99 Actually only 4 were shot down in Desert Storm and they were all hit by SAMs.
That baby is a tank with wings and I approve.
Love it
"As time goes on, the Warthog probably will be phased out because it is an older aircraft..."
B-52: What, that young whippersnapper?
🤣🤣
🤣🤣🤣🤣
Nice seeing these again! We were stationed at Eielson, A. F. B. in 1985 and the A-10 quickly became my favorite military jet due to its high maneuvering abilities. Sort of like watching a bumblebee fly. It was alot of fun to watch during Yukon Lightning!
😄
Best plane ever! It is truly amazing the damage it can take & still be deadly.
Love this plane. My late husband said this was the best sound you could ever hear.
#VeteransBattleStillRages
He's not wrong
Daddy was Air Force I was Army. Daddy always said " you hear brrrrrrrr, it's to late to kiss your a** goodbye if you are on the wrong side"
Very interesting! What ever tickles your pickles🤣🤣🤣 Let’s go
We have a National Guard unit of A-10's stationed at my town. Love these jets, and love having them here. Great to see them flying around, love the intimidating badass beauty of them.
They are brilliant
I worked on them in the Air Force Reserves at Barksdale AFB in Louisiana. I worked on the navigation, targeting, and heads-up display systems. My second favorite plane to work on. My favorite being it's bigger cousin the KC-10. I also had the pleasure of working for five years in the Air Force Reserve's only B-52 unit at the same base. They were all part of the 917th Wing.
Want to know how valuable the A-10 is? It's a plane designed and built in the 1970s that the US military won't let any other country fly. In contrast, there are 16 nations besides the US that fly the AH-64 Apache helicopter, and 15 that fly or will fly the F-35 Lightning II.
As an aside, despite what the video suggests, the A-10 isn't supposed to be using depleted Uranium ammo anymore. It may be depleted but it's still radioactive and will cause serious environmental issues. *Please note that I said "isn't SUPPOSED to be."
Those rounds aren't just piercing the target they rip through everything and continue chewing meters into the ground.
im so glad i got the opportunity to work on parts for the A10 a few years ago. working in Aerospace is amazing.
#veteransbattlestillrages military/police family here, I’ll # this all day long! Ever since your emotional reaction to “the first ever recorded Medal of Honor” video I gained a lot of respect for you and also learning your a Vet as well so from an American , Thankyou for your service serving as one of our top allies.
My pleasure. Thank you for yours too
Looooove the Warthog!!!
Thunderbolt II
Unfriendly field capability....nice way of puttin that, that was well said... 🤘🏻🇺🇸
Holy CRAP!!!!!! You go girl!!!!! Don, hope, the girls and your wife enjoy your vacation!!!!!!
Thank you Debbie
We called it the tank killer when I was in. She is the ground pounders friend. By the time you heard it coming, it was too late. Almost always accompanied by a pair of f4 phantoms, not that they were needed.
Awesome! I am learning so much from these videos!! Thank you Don! You’re the best!❤️🙏🏻✌🏻🇺🇸😄
It's my pleasure Cindy. More educational and historical stuff to come also
I worked with the a10 the last 2 years of active duty. It is an awsome aircraft.
Aside from that I really enjoy your reactions. Keep up the good work.
I love your enthusiasm 👍😄. To say the Warthog is amazing is a vast understatement!! Great video. 🛩🛩🛩. Thank you!!!
I got to watch A-10’s doing strafing runs at White Sands Missile Range in 1985 while I was in the Army, we absolutely loved that aircraft
👍🏻
I enjoy your comments
Thanks Dennis
The sexiest looking plane ever made. I loved hearing that bird overhead as an infantryman in the army
I love it
F-16 pilot "My plane has a gun."
A-10 pilot, "My gun has a plane"
Seriously, My state A.N.G. unit flies the Warthog. I enjoy more than to hear them up on maneuvers. No other bird sounds like it. For a time the suits were trying to force the A-10 into retirement and wrote new mission orders. Which would have turned the unit into basically a flying bus route.
I was so glad when it was nixed and the Hog came back.
😀👍🏻
That is the meanest flying tank ever developed!
Definitely
We Marines have a saying; "The Death Angel is coming".
Probably my favorite jet of all time. Ever since growing up with G.i. Joe cartoons and comics in the 1980's. The cobra rattler with wild weasel was my favorite aircraft. Especially with the gunner bubble on top behind pilot lol. Not real functional in real life but a cool toy design.
The gun will actually stop the forward momentum of the plane if not done in short bursts
Wow. That makes sense though
I love the A-10, and I reckon it is a good looking plane. It is absolutely unbeatable in its realm. So much technology for what it does, and so many reliability features built in. Oh, and the GAU-8 of course - that is just the baddest of the bunch. 30mm depleted uranium, armour piercing, incendiary rounds at 3900 per minute - that'll do it.
Absolutely outstanding
One great feature never discussed is the flight controls are interchangeable from left to right, decelerons, elevators, slats, rudders, etc. Even the engines and main gears can be swapped. Good video, I spent many epic days in Edinburgh while I was stationed at RAF Woodbridge/Bentwaters!
"Use a calendar " is actually a compliment. Eagle drivers understand the need and valuable support for ground troops.
Just remember, our enemies fear this plane.
It's outstanding
Give the A-10 to the USMC along with the funding to maintain and operate them if the Chair Force doesn't want it anymore.
Our service is the only one that sends it officers into combat first. Yes they are sitting down (chair force). We also have nukes jarhead.
"No more talking, lets go" My favorite plane!
Thanks Richard
I love watching these films about the Warthog. Thanks. Keep up the good work.
Back when I was in HS, 85 or 86, there was and Air Show in Concord NH. They had an A-10 there, got to get up close an personal with it. I actually looked down the barrel of THE GUN! Biggest damned rifling I could ever imagine. They fired it up while I was 50 feet or so behind it, almost knocked me on my ass. I have been in love that plane ever since.
I love it
Favorite aircraft in the AF inventory, it’s a killing machine, period.
Unbelievable
I've watched your videos over and over love your reactions. Thanks for your service...FREEDOM
Another thing to remember is that basically the pilot and crew are sitting in a titanium bathtub real hard to hit them with a bullet it's a fantastic fantastic closer support vehicle.
I used to work on this beautiful aircraft. Maintained and repaired the ejection seats.
I am an Air Force veteran, and I was fortunate enough to be able to have worked on the A-10 WORTHOG while stationed in England.
Thank you
They're based out of Davis Monthan air force base in Arizona. Not far from where I live.
Cool
I have several of them fly over my house every day. They have a very distinct sound, but you only hear it after they have passed by. It is a beautiful weapon I would never challenge. I feel very safe here in the U.S.A.
Thanks Jeff
I fell in love with the A-10 Warthog the first time I saw one. Not only did it remind me of the Cobra Raptor (from the 80's G.I. Joe cartoon), but its' armament is quite formidable. The sound of the Crowd Pleaser is fierce, to say the least.
#VeteransBattleStillRages
#Nomoretalkin! #veteransbattlestillrages
I love that you watch the videos straight through. Stunning plane and amazing capabilities. I always learn from your channel!
I appreciate that Laura. Thank you
For the record I love the footage even when the video maker wasn’t talking the last little bit is great enjoy it all. 👍👍
It's brilliant
Awesome video! As a civilian, its hard for me to understand all the capabilities, but wow, seeing that one plane so damaged and yet home from battle is incredible! #Nomoretalkin!
#veteransbattlestillrages
Thank you
The troops on the ground, Americans and it allies absolutely love it, and our enemies fear it by name. I was in the army in the early 80's and I was astonished with it during our training exercises. You always knew it was an A-10 flying above with it's distinctive brrrrrrrrrrrr!!! sound from it's gun.
Had 2 of these suckers fly right over the trees here at my house one day. Bout blew my ears out. But man it was awesome!! Merica! 🇺🇸
😄😄
The only plane built around a gun, rather than the other way around! Used to see them flying low over Haverhill in Suffolk, UK on their way to their base when I lived there.
Really. I would love to see that
Brrrrrrrrrt! When boots on the ground need help... That's a beautiful sound.
The Warthog is a total beast and the ground troops love it! Hopefully the Air Force will up grade it and keep it going for longer.
Check out the AC 130, Puff the Magic Dragon...
Sounds good
It's official name is the Thunderbolt 2, which pays respect to the P-47 Thunderbolt piston engine American aircraft WW2. I'm very familiar with them as my WW2 veteran father took me to airshows ever since I could walk. 8 .50 caliber Browning Machine guns in the wings destroyed air and ground targets brutally. Watch info online about them!
Thanks Tim
Great ground support plane..in Vietnam our equivalent wS the Douglas A1 Skyraider..the answer to a Marines prayers on many occasions
The Skyraider was designed as a dive bomber late in WWII for the Navy, all the skyraiders the Air Force used were Navy aircraft brought out of retirement from the boneyard. The sidearm entire war missile the apache used to carry were originally Aim-9C sidewinder which were a one off radar guided version of the IR sidewinder for the Navy F-8 crusader that were retired, then brought back into service and modified by the Army.
A-10s with the snake heads painted on them are the 122nd fighter wing Indiana air Guard, based at Ft. Wayne.
Ok. Thank you
Love this channel ❤. Keep it coming!
It was the mechanical control system that allowed the Captain to gain control back from all the damage. I was born in 1979 and that tank killer is 2 years older than me. Also the entire gun assembly is the size of a small car like a VW beetle. They basically built the aircraft around the cannon making the GAU-8 Avenger a literal spine of the A-10 Warthog.
#No more talkin, # Let's gooo! I'm glad this plane is in our side ! I'd run for the hills if I saw this thing coming. 😫 GO Warthog! Told ya. Don't poke the bear! P.S. you have the best laugh! It's infectious 🤣🤣
😄😄😄
They literally built the aircraft around the gun. The gun was built first, and then they designed the aircraft to carry and fire it. They had to redesign the main structure several times due to the massive kickback from the gun cracking the early designs. You'll also notice the gun is slightly offset from center line of the aircraft. This is because the gun fires the rounds from the right side of the barrel assembly. They had to line this up with the exact center line of the aircraft to prevent it from going into a flat spin when firing the gun. The kickback is also so strong that is capable of causing the aircraft to stall if fired for too long. For this reason, they built it so the gun will only fire for a few seconds for each squeeze of the trigger.
Would love to drive one of those
# no more talkin let’s go! Peace brother
Thank you very much Phil

Hi Cliff, I know you are an awesome and steadfast friend of this channel. I just learned (the hard way!) that to do the hashttag thing properly, we need to type it as all one word, no spaces at all, so it looks like this: #nomoretalkin and #veteranswarstillwages We are Doug's warriors here!
It’s funny the Air Force wants to start retiring this aircraft so resources can go towards the F35 but Congress keeps telling them no and gives them money to keep the A10 going Lol
You can see why. It's incredible
I (a taxpayer) also wants the A110 to keep flying in it's current role. It is not a job for the fragile and expensive F35 that was never designed for a close air support role. Even extensively damaged, the rugged A110 brings our pilots back in one piece. The F35 taking even a small fraction of the damage the A110 can take would have the very expensive F35 scattered all over the battlefield, and possibly the loss of the pilot. Sometimes, technology isn't the better replacement, and the low maintenance cost of the A110 is an additional bonus.
@@jreyman low cost maintenance is the killer you need greedy politicians fleeced by big co to pay 1billion dollers for a carbon coated screw as opposed to $1 one lol
Personally, I would rather see them ramp up a production line and start making new ones to add to the inventory. More ground support and can replace the ones that have to be retired due to extensive damage and age.
That would be such a massive mistake. It’s been pivotal for support for our troops since it’s inception. There’s a reason enemies fear that aircraft. I say, make more of them to maybe replace the oldest ones if necessary. If not, then just keep them in fighting shape and keep using them until the wings fall off.
The warthog can kill a tank like nothing to it mate. It's a brute with a bad attitude. I love the hog.
Same
When the warthog fires its main gun it sounds like a dragon belching to me.lol
🤣
I've always known the fire power of this beast ( gotta love the gun ) lol. Saw it at an air show 20 years ago, I had no idea how agile the warthog was, simply amazing aircraft
The Michigan Air National Guard just did some tests where they blocked off a stretch of highway and practiced landings and takeoffs of the A10.😳
😄
Whiteman AFB is just 30 miles away from where I live here in Missouri..They Fly Warhogs all the time around us and Stealth Bombers also..The Stealth Bomber can be Very quiet too..thanks..also one time cruising down a rural road..an A10 locked in on my Ford F150 and acted like it was tank to be destroyed..cool..and Warhogs are Very loud too
Thanks Mark
The A 10s. Do have a air to air capability and 1 air to air kill on a chopper the aim 9 is air to air
Way back in 1976 a pair of A10S was visiting Pacific Air force for id training. WE were curious about the Aircraft . one of our young fast mover pilots asked how fast theA10 was when he was told the young Fast mover jock said easy meat when asked if he wanted to try a head to head Gun pass the fast mover pilot declined This was at Kadena ab we had 120 F-4's . I was an aviation Weapons specialist.
The one where she got some small arms fire. There is one that got hit by SAM and he got it home! With a large part of one wing missing!
Very impressive machine, I stood next to one at a air show it's intimidating. I heard when the cannon shoots it slows the aircraft down ( WOW )
It really is
Love the A-10 and your reaction video. Keep up the good work!
Thank you
It always makes me smile that it sounds like:" No more talkin, Glasgow!" !!

Just came across this channel, really enjoyed the video from a good ol' scotsman hehe. Just been searching for A-10 reactions and this is what I needed.
The unused hanger on the wall had me scratching at my screen
🤣🤣🤣
I live in South Georgia and A-10's fly over my house almost every day the're awesome
Cool
Those "leaders" in America that wish to withdraw the A10 should do so in front of a B52 !
Watching as they've been flying overhead and down range firing at targets. Brrrrrrttt! Echoing across the lake and into the trees. Flying low enough to see the pilot sometimes.
I called in close air support during Desert Storm. A-10s came. I saw ridiculous stuff happen in 2003, well, it was either an A10 or an apache... but that was it.
Great options available there
I couldn't see it at night but I heard the rounds and saw the tracers from the AC130, too.
