Since there isn't much out there regarding changing the 078S burrs, would love to see a video from you showing this process (including alignment) in great detail.
I have been using 078s with stock burr for about a year. I have never experienced the channeling you mentioned. Even in shots that exceed 40-50 seconds. I don't think your experience provides any comprehensive information about the general behavior of stock 078s burrs.
Hi there, we had two 078s grinders, and our results were the same. You can feel free to check Charlie's review too of the 078s : ruclips.net/video/iUTiP-Hl574/видео.htmlsi=1Rv_VZScyyPemSiD It might be slightly difference in burrs carrier, but the general feedback is the same.
What does your puck prep involve? As I'm getting channeling on most of my shots with the 078S even after seasoning with 6kg of coffee. My prep is grind into Timemore dosing cup - place portafilter over top of dosing cup then flip to empty grinds into basket - hand tap the basket to get a fairly even flat bed of grinds - tamp - place puck screen on top - brew with Lelit Bianca V3. Doing a traditional full flow vs flow profiles doesn't improve the channeling.
@ourcoffeeshelter I respect your experience but as I said these experiences are not enough to make generalizations. Forget my positive experience, I hadn't even read anything about this problem in the community until I watched this video. It has been written a lot that 6-7 kg of seasoning is needed and channeling occurs during this time, but I have never heard of a channeling problem after seasoning. There are also many videos that say the opposite of Charlie's video. So generalizing based on just 2 videos would also be wrong.
@@WushuTaz My routine is as follows. I pour the ground coffee into the basket with the dosing funnel on it. I distribute with the classic 3d printed WDT tool. After a small tap, I tamp and take a shot without using any Puck screen etc. In this way, I have never had a chronic channeling problem since the first day.
Hi there, thank you for sharing your thoughts too, apparently some friends do no share our opinion regarding the stock 078s espresso burrs, glad to hear that you agree with us. Time to go with SSP burrs 👌🤍☕️
Just what I was looking for, thanks! Can you also comment (obviously without testing as it’s not available yet), the expected difference between the SSP RS and SK burr options? Ie why might I buy the RS burrs now, or wait to see what SK coating offers?
Hey! SSP recommends SilverKnight coating for filter priority. The friction of RedSpeed coating is better for smoother espresso and might be better when it comes to heat buildup on burrs when grinding for high volume. Generally speaking, you won't see much difference, but why not! 🤍☕️😊
Hi there, that is a tricky one. Probably filter coffee will be sweeter in SSP, but 078 burrs will allow you to grind finer without getting astrengency 🤍☕️ If 100% filter, go with the 078 burrs. Personally, at sometimes we felt the 078 burrs are boring.
@@ourcoffeeshelterghost burrs might mute acidity a bit maybe that's why? But it's not completely a ghost burr so still gets some acidity brightness from what I hear but maybe not as punchy as ssp usually goes.
Hey there, planning to share review on the larger burrs after a month or two. That being said, 98mm burrs will always be the cleanest and best for clarity 🤍☕️
@@ourcoffeeshelter I was reading Home barista grinders and people stated 64 ssp mp gave you more clarity the 102 Mizens. Looking forward to your review.
Always a pleasure! It won't be ideal to use them in the 078 filter version as the thread on the grinding adjustments dial is thicker and less accurate compared to the espresso grinder (078s). That being said, we did manage to get 4 seconds of esprsso extraction time different by moving the dial very slowly. Also, retention might be slightly more in the grinding chamber with the 078 filter version when using SSP burrs. All in all, you can definitely use it, it is just not ideal 🤍☕️
@@ourcoffeeshelter thanks! Timemore was never clear enough about compatibility between the two. They promised to release some kind of adapter, but it didn't happen, AFAIK.
hi thanks for this beautiful videos, I owned Timemore 078s, and my question is does the 078s the stock burr come pre-alligned? or should I re-alligned them ? please kindly let me know.. very informative video as ever, keep doing the good work buddy! Cheers~☕
Hi there, thank you for your kind words, it means a lot! That is the tricky question as some are having even espresso extraction, others are not. You can check by using the marker test, start by brushing the burrs very well to ensure all powder coffee is out, then mark the final edges with white board removable marker pen. After that put everything back inside and keep going finer until burrs touch. Then go 8 numbers coarser, then turn the grinder on and start going finer until you hear the burrs are touching. Then remove all the burrs and check if the wipe was even. That's it ☕️🤍👏
If it ain't broken don't try to fix it. From what I heard they should have good alignment out of the box but I'm skeptical about their quality control so it might not always be the case.

Hi there, thanks for the nice review. Don't have a Sculptor 078s because there are too many reports of the channeling issues ( own a 078 for filter). Thus, this is really interesting here.
