If any Houston region person mentions they don’t mind DFW they get crapped on by everyone for even saying that. @@JTMont21I’d beg to differ. At Ok State there is a lot of DFW people there and I mean a lot. This last year with the Astros vs Rangers ALCS I wore my Astro stuff around and I got a lot of people chirping at me. So the DFW area does hate Houston but definitely not to the same extent that Houston hates Dallas.

BYU VS TCU and Utah VS TCU is a rivalry that will become a rivalry again. BYU, Utah, and TCU were great rivals during the Mountain West Era because we were always competing for the Mountain West title. As a WVU fan, I want it to become something, but I honestly get more hate online when I say I want it to become something than I think actual hatred from our fanbase that goes the way of Cincy. As more games are played some hatred will definitely grow, but I will also say that for a lot of our fanbase there's almost so much hatred thrown the way of pitt/Virginia Tech that a lot don't have much room in their heart for another. I think if UC was added in around 2016 that would of been a time where our fanbase would of been more okay with calling it a rivalry, we weren't even back to playing the Brawl in Basketball yet at that point and the football series at that point in time was still years away.

The ASU/Arizona rivalry is called the Territorial Cup because it started in the 1890s before Arizona became a state in 1912. It's not the oldest rivalry, but it is the oldest rivalry trophy. It is one nasty rivalry. It goes beyond athletics and academics. It is political, it is civic, it is, literally, territorial. Now the Cincy rivalry is the total opposite. We really have nothing in common, we just naturally formed a rivalry since we always competed for American Championships. Still though, I do miss the War on I-4 between USF the most, is was always a close game no matter how bad or good each team was. It feels like the years where we can truly be in the national conversation, Iowa State ruins it (See: 2011, 2021, and an argument can be made for 2023 and 2018 as well). However, this is probably a one sided rivalry. ISU fans I imagine find it funny that they can upset a team that needed wins like air when it really matters for OSU. However when the game means nothing, OSU dominates.

Most of the animosity (in my memory) came from 70-point shootout in 2019. I also think there tends to be a mini rivalry between any schools of bordering states regardless of history. The Big "can't count past" 12 is screwing things up with the yearly rivalry thing by only keeping four!
Somebody should remind them what happened to the Western Athletic Conference when they were 16 teams, tampering with rivalries.
The lack of Leastern Time Zone schools is also hurting this conference. Central Florida being an "island" (like what West Virginia went through) is unacceptable!
What needs to be done is simple.
    1. Three yearly rivalries per school.
    2. Rotate with remaining 12. Keep it at 9 conference games so it only takes two years to play the remaining 12. 4 years for home and home.
    3. Here is the list of rivalries that need to be yearly:

Holy War is considered one of the top best names to ever exist but BYU and Utah go back and forth of not playing each other at times but only usually a yr or two years off and then they go at it. BYU fans will claim they own the full series as well as Utah fans claim they own the series. Its a never ending fight! Utah leads 59-32-4 in the Holy War. Utah heavily dominated for so many years when it first was around. Byu dominated when Lavell Edwards came in and help it gain back some of the blue claim. Utah Byu will forever be a massive rivalry for the state of Utah.

Also the Houston Rivalry should at least be “D” tier or maybe even “C”. It has got some potential. Lastly, the TCU game has recently spiked and had potential to become “A” soon.

Revivalry was huge in 2014/15. Other than that, it’s going to be difficult to see which rivalries grow in this conference. Part of why so many of these traditional rivalries occurred was because of regional location of the two schools and just absolute hate. Hard to have a rivalry be born if everyone’s ‘meh’ with each other

As a Houston fan, I disagree with putting UH-TTU in F-tier. Tech is the one old SWC school (besides Rice) who has acknowledged our existence, so there is a large amount of familiarity. Not to mention a lot of games have been feisty (especially the last 3 football games), increasing any general dislike the fanbases had for each other. Personally, I would have put it in C-tier.
For UCF, I agree that it is F-tier but there is more animosity on the UCF side than us (but not on Civil Conflict level). I can't speak for everyone but a lot of UH fans just find UCF fans annoying and loud, so this has felt more like a game you don't want to lose than one you need to win for "bragging rights".
Now one "newly-formed" rivalry involving UH that I think is most likely to happen is UH-Baylor. As you already covered, many UH fans still hold a grudge against them for being snubbed in the original Big 12, not to mention Art Briles, RG3, the 2020 FB game cancellation, etc. Not to mention the incredibly opposite, contrasting styles of both schools with BU being more traditional in a small town, while UH is more urban literally right next to downtown of the 4th most-populous city in the country. Doesn't hurt that both teams are incredibly good at basketball and incredibly inconsistent at football with seasons of overperformances and just flat stinkers.
Overall, I think Houston's best "new rivalries" in the new Big 12 are against the in-state schools just based on regionallism, familiarity, and the fact that everything is just bigger in the state of Texas.

From the BYU side, we like Baylor and have called it "the friendliest rivalry in sports" and enjoy it as juxtaposed to how much vitriol there is in the Holy War. The BYU - Baylor game should be known as the "Bible Bash Bowl" in my opinion, or the "Church Picnic Bowl." Definitely no hate, but bragging rights are there, plus RGIII has become a fan favorite among BYU fans for how he commentates during BYU games and when he came to Provo and hung out with BYU fans.
TCU is one as an old/former conference rivalry. I think that one will develop stronger as the years go on and become an A list. From the MWC days, it was A list, at least from the BYU side (can't speak for TCU), so shouldn't take too long to get back there again.

Texas Tech is tied with Colorado in feats. Both are passionate, rowdy fanbases that know how to party. Deion Sanders and Joey McGuire love to brag, but also view the field in two opposing mindsets (offense/defense). These schools can now recruit at a high level. Their future games are going to be ugly with a high powered Buffalo offense taking on a fast, violent Red Raider defense. Lubbock and Boulder are extremely hostile environments to play in. Expect gloating and hard feelings from these two. It's either that or Texas Tech will jab at a natural villain like Utah.
