Here, I thought Ms Jerssye Norman would not be able to sing this song. In fact, I had never heard a daramatic soprano sing "Dove Sono" before now. It is awe-inspiring...YES...YES...YES! When I say to folks that Ms. J. NORMAN is ONE OF THE WONDERS OF THE WORLD, I say so without one ounce flattery. Indeed, IT IS THE TRUTH! Incroyable. ..incredible...increible...incredibile!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!Yes!

Breathtaking, wonderful, unique, the best singer in our time - this all is Jessye Norman for me. I enjoyed her in her concert-evenings in Switzerland some times, I know almost every tone of her great voice, but its always again like magic. To give her some stars is not enough, for her I give the whole universe.
@@DieFlabbergast "Showy" wasn't the best word. More "Pop" or easy listening - the way I would expect Sarah Brightman to sing it. Quite different to Kiri's or Elizabeth Schwarzkopf's version. I don't dislike Norman's version but prefer it sung the way Kiri sings it.

Ms. Norman was the consummate professional, as descriptions of her singing by innumerable leading conductors attest: the idea that she would "popularise" a Mozart aria is simply inconceivable. I can only suppose that you have some sort of personal agenda.
She is a phenomenon and as a dramatic soprano with one of the most powerful voices in the world and yet, whith her usual stamina, she proves everybody wrong...Like Bartoli she cares little for tradition and can sing most anything...
Mozart needs a combination of extraordinary skills of the voice and an amazing intelligence to understand his music. Jessye Norman had both. Stunning performance.
I didn't even know how blessed I was when my opera teacher classified my voice and said "It's Jessye Norman type of voice". After listening to her work I was so grateful to God for blessing me with such uniqueness and versatility.

A "true" Diva in every sense of the word. Style, Wisdom, Grace, Beauty, Class, Talent, Poise. And still a very down-to-earth woman with a heart of gold! Yes, she is a Big Woman. I have seen her walk on stage, and it's like the Titanic! She has a commanding presence. You just know you are in the company of greatness. And her speaking voice.. still music, my god, the woman could read a phone book and make it sound like Shakespeare! I am 45, and have loved Mozart all my life, she nails this!

The voice is glorious beyond measure, but what impressed me was how every nuance of sound supported the emotional sense of the aria. The same musical expression of intellectual understanding that characterises the very greatest performers, notably, of course, Maria Callas.

Search around for some of the videos actually recorded live. This does sound great, but, she overdubbed the entire video -- the vocals are not what she was doing while they were filming. Doesn't diminish her talent, but, for classical singing fans, I think something not dubbed is more interesting.

i understand it's the way most opera singers are trained but Jessye has spoiled me when hearing Opera singers gasping for breathe as they sing. Listen to Jessye sing an aria and then listen to someone else sing it. If she gasps for breathe it ma be only one time if that. I think that is what I will miss the most. Listening to a beautiful aria without the distracting gasping

No matter how many times I listen to Jessye sing this, my sentiment turns from 'like' to 'LOVE'.
I used to listen to Kiri Te Kanawa's version and only discovered this. Jessye Norman's is in a different league. Sublime, superb. Truly divine.
