      I would say depends what you need them for. As my 2nd car for traveling and cruising on highways I would take Toyota and also save money. Certainly it's a preference. Spending more than 100 miles in both cars I can say that if luxury is the main attribute then Lexus certainly wins as materials are way nicer than Rav4. Also Rav4 exterior/interior looks are more controversial, so many people will not like the styling of Rav4. Ride wise Lexus feels a bit firmer and more responsive, Rav4 is more of a calm cruiser.

I found seats in Rav4 to be on the firm side, however they felt supportive, so yes if you want plush comfortable seats then Rav4 would not be the right choice. I had Camrys for 10 years, they are great cars, but Rav4 could be more practical to many people especially in snow. Also I started liking crossovers because of their height it’s simply easier to move around town. Again the choice would be to anyone’s taste and preference

    Both vehicles are quality built. My son owns a Rav4 and a Tacoma. I never owned a Toyota product and did a lot of research on the web. I decided to go with the NX 350H and it's clearly a far more luxurious design. The Rav4 has the infotainment center sticking out of the dash which is old school. On the Lexus, I went with the 14 inch screen - built into the dash - and the heads-up display. The power is smooth, and there are a lot of other features too numerous to mention. I didn't price the Rav4, but the NX350H I bought was $50,600.

    I've seen so many Rav4 owners claim the ride is uncomfortable and noisy. But not true with the 2023 Rav4 XSE Hybrid, which I picked up a few weeks ago. It's surprisingly comfortable, quiet, and the 10.5" infotainment screen is miles better than previous year's hideous 8" or lesser screen size (A real reason why I didn't buy it sooner). Only downside to the NX350h is it has a mediocre JBL sound system, not Mark Levinson. Few biggest reasons for choosing Rav4 are it has spare tire(A must for me as I enjoy long road trips. Can't take my chances with 50mile range run flats out in nowhere), more aftermarket accessories(I enjoy modding), cheaper to maintain than Lexus(I know this because I switched from Lexus IS350). Uses same Toyota parts and work but Lexus magically charges almost double. For that reason, they can give you a loaner car and snacks for free(with your money). Lol. Anyhow, beyond satisfied with 36 to 55mpg (Yes, hit 55 three times without pissing off other drivers. =b
    Buy whichever you want if you can afford either, or change cars every few years. Buy Rav4 if you are like me who keeps the same cars for more than 10+ years. Btw, I still own 300K+ mile old Tacoma DC Sport 4x4, which I bought it brand new back in 2007 for $26K before taxes and fees.

    have you test driven the NX 450 H+ plugin hybrid? If you have did you have the same issue with the suspension? I think part of the problem with the lexus is actually the runflat tires. Lexus has received strong criticism for fitting them as standard because they degrade ride quality/comfort, they create additional road noise, and they are expensive to replace.

    • @100miledrive
      @100miledrive  Год назад

      No haven’t driven the plugin NX yet. I really don’t like this run flat tire scheme across all auto makers. I will be changing out run flats on our X3 in few months and will share feedback on how really different it is wifh the regular tires

    • @pyrodon1910
      @pyrodon1910 Год назад +1

      @@100miledrive In fairness to runflat tires they seem to be evolving positively when you equate them to normal tires and I will post a youtube link at the end of this comment that qualifies that statement. HOWEVER.... I have given this a lot of thought and I don't think a compelling argument can actually be made for the existence of runflat tires. Hear me out. The ONLY 2 reasons that runflat tires currently exist are:
      1) to allow manufacturers to legally be able to meet regulation safety requirements without needing to fit a spare tire as standard thus saving manufacturers a ton of money and
      2) in the event of a puncture the driver can make it "safely" to the nearest tire repair shop.
      The thing is (and the linked youtube video below will support my claim) Runflat tires don't AVOID the actual loss of tire pressure in case of a puncture. Ultimately the pinnacle of tire safety technology would be a system that eliminates tire pressure losses EVEN if a puncture was to occur. Runflat tires cannot do this... BUT sealant tires actually can. Some would say that depending on the degree of structural damage to the tire that resulted in the deflation event, a sealant tire may experience a catastrophic failure that the runflat tire might have survived but I don't share this opinion. In 90% of cases a sealant tire will be the safer and more convenient tire to fit as standard simply due to the fact that unless the sidewall of the tire is penetrated it will not deflate or lose any pressure whatsoever.
      In the rare circumstance that the sidewall sustains enough damage to cause complete deflation of the tire there is an extremely high likelihood that the runflat technology would not be particularly helpful since this type of damage usually involves a cracked or bent rim and would require some form of roadside assistance anyway. I think if the automotive industry really thought about it runflat tires would cease to exist. (see youtube link below)

      Thanks a lot for this amazing run down on the tires and the link to the video. It is very well explained on the difference. I wonder if new cars already fitted with Gen 4 run flats, probably not yet.
      I think I am Ok with most cars have run flats except for the performance vehicles unless we see Gen5 and Gen6 of run flats that have absolutely no disadvantage to the regular tires even at higher speeds, in that case regular tires will cease to exist.

Well, my observation was based on driving both cars almost back to back and the conclusion was that NX350h had tire noise mainly because of run flats and bumpier ride, which was very susprising. Toyota certainly lags behind with it’s screen and especially quality materials but it offers a calmer smoother ride. You need to drive them side by side to experience this. NX also has better more direct steering. Again this was my observation and perception of both cars, yours might be different.

    How is seats of rav4? It’s really uncomfortable design, sides making pressure points, even after few miles ride and I’m not comparing it to Lexus. Old Prius has better seats

      From my observation seats in Rav4 are slightly firm, not plush, but it didn't bother me and we took this car on a long trip, however I can see how someone can find an issue especially if you have more sensitive back. In Lexus seats are of course way more comfortable and will cater to most people.

    RAV 4 interior is terrible. My wife has a new Camary and the “infotainment” system looks like crap. Rides great and will last forever but Toyota needs to do a better job on their interiors. They could do this and still keep the costs for down I think. If your finances only allow for the RAV 4 then you will get a great vehicle but man that interior just like the Camary blows.

    • @100miledrive

      Thanks for the feedback. I hear you. Even my Rav4 rental had already some small visible scratches. Toyota really keeps things according to the price tiers (well most automakers do). Highlander has slightly better materials than Rav4. And of course Lexus has better materials than Toyota. Well, Honda upped their game with new CRV Hybrid and better materials, hoping Toyota will do too in the future.

    Your negativity on the Lexus is weird. It’s a vastly superior vehicle in every regard. Can’t believe you actually said the Lexus is louder. The RAV is one of the noisiest SUVs, the Lexus is one of the quietest. Are you drunk 😂

    • @100miledrive
      @100miledrive  Год назад +1

      My driving experience of both the Lexus and Rav4 was based on spending the time with both cars on 3 different terrains and driving them for more than 100 miles each. The conclusion was that NX350h has tire noise, mostly due to run flats and NX350h has bumpier ride overall, again partly due to run flats and also suspension tuning. Rav4 certainly lacks the quality materials of the Lexus but does feel a smoother car to drive. This is all based on my experience driving both cars almost back to back and observation. Your perception of driving experience for both cars might be different. You are more than welcome to share some details.
