    UPDTAE. If you take a glance at the comments section here you'll quickly see mixed results. Some people have had full access to this for ages, some are like myself where its a recant thing and some still cannot access this.
    SPECULATION MODE: Having chatted with some people in the comments here's what I think MAY be happening. Resolves UI has always been semi-automated, only allowing you a certain amount of control over the panels etc. and has always scaled itself in a certain way based on the hardware it detects and (new to me) it seems to also be affected by windows scaling.
    When I first opened 18.1 I noticed right away it was scaling differently. Everything was smaller and less bulky which I was glade of because it was utilizing my monitors real-estate much better than before.
    I believe this feature is a bit of a lottery and there seems to be a tipping point with how resolves UI scales based on your set up. When you cross this tipping point, you gain access to it. I believe that what ever the combination is of how 18.1 decided to scale the UI for my hardware finally crossed that tipping point and therefore I've gotten access to it and seemed like a "new" feature when really its simply new to ME.
    Anywho, please keep letting me know your experience with this and perhaps let me know your screen size and resolution as it appears as larger / higher res have more success with this. I'd like to see if a pattern emerges.
    I myself am on a UHD - 27 inch monitor.

      windows scaling definitely has an impact, when i had my 1440p monitor scaled to 125% i got no dual view button but when windows scaling is turned off the dual viewer appears. but that means having to to work with text so tiny it's hard to read at a glance. really baffling decision on blackmagic's part to insist they know better than you what UI elements you want access to based on your screen setup

    I think its based on the hardware detection along with the size of your display and resolution. I have two 1440p 27' monitors and one 1080p 24' , when I drag to the 1080p an close and relaunch it would not have the button most of the time. but the specs of my pc would allow it sometimes. has to do with the code of the veiw display not having enough space to display the other view option until this update to fix for alot of people with optimization.

  • @mzr9mm
    @mzr9mm Год назад +8

    Resolve 14 (2017) had the "feature", maybe even earlier versions, you just need a higher resolution display or shrink down the media and/or inspector tabs.

    • @FilmResolved
      @FilmResolved  Год назад

      Well I’ve had a UHD monitor for about 5 years now so what’s high resolution these days 😂 I was researching the forums before posting this and there was people unable to do it in resolve 17 with screen shots of the UI. That said you’re totally right about different people having different UI options based on hardware specs. Would it be fair to say this iteration of the feature is new, in the sense that you now decide on how it behaves rather than resolve deciding based on your hardware?

    • @mzr9mm
      @mzr9mm Год назад

      @@FilmResolved yes, its fair :) Windows DPI scaling also plays a role in the layout of Resolve, from what i can tell from your videos I think you are on 150% UI scaling, I use mine at 100% (43" UHD) to get more stuff on the screen larger and taller timeline. For me it just defaults to dual viewer. Might have come off a little rude at first, was not my intention, I`m just an old video editing nerd with ocd answering the question in the thumbnail :) Love your stuff, keep being awesome! ;)

    • @FilmResolved
      @FilmResolved  Год назад

      Not at all you haven’t come across rude. Good point raised there about windows dpi. Resolve 18.1 is definitely scaling differently over all for me. In the past the bulkiness seems excessive for how high res my monitor is. Now it’s using the space much more efficiently. For example how many node I can see clearly in the color page is far more now. Over all I’m very happy with the UI now as we are already are so limited in its customisation.

      @@FilmResolved Yep, I did have loads of bugs however I discovered that my woes were hardware issues with my graphic card not being powerful enough. My RTX 3070, which was a beast for gaming, did not have enough vRAM and that was why I kept getting GPU Memory Full error messages. Now that I have upgraded to the RTX 3090 its all "sweetness and rainbows" for my RUclips projects. Only this week I bodged together a sort of Orange and Teal look for my latest episode by blindly pushing the Spider Web/Colour Warper thingie.
      I've have also just experimented rendering that project and can happily say that my upgraded Resolve Studio is faster. Yesterday my project took 23 mins and 7 secs. Today the exact same project took 20 mins 56 secs. Its not much but it is an improvement.
      Could I pick your brains about Bit Rates please?
      If you were to render a 4k project at h.265 for RUclips, what Bit Rate would you choose?
      I'm taking a punt on 45mb/s

    • @FilmResolved
      @FilmResolved  Год назад

      RUclips recommends 35-45 Mbps for h.264. I personally use h.265 as the resulting improvements to compression artefacts after RUclips’s compression is day and night. Just ensure you choose a 10bit profile like High10 in the render settings. That’s very important. This all is based on the premise that the more you feed RUclips to process the better it’s results. I personally limit the bitrate to 16Mbps. I found that there is very little return on investment going any higher. There is gains but minor and not worth the addition storage IMO.

    Whether I open or close the inspector, the dual or single viewer option is not there.
    When I drop the file in the time line a duplicate of that file appears in the above left where the media files are in the first place wth the term timeline 1 next to it. When I place my curser on that file, I notice a single verticle line that can be moved by the curser. Not sure the meaning of it.
    Also when I drag a file in the timeline window below, the video file starts at the middle of that screen and each file is in segments instead of just showing that file. This of course translates to my having to keep scrolling there until I see the next file I had dropped and so on.
