So so glad you were able to get something out of it! I live for comments like this. If you were able to follow along with this video, you should take a gander at my most recent video, it’s a long tutorial like this about how to animate logos in Fusion!
One of the greatest tutorials! Other tutorials just say: "This is node try connecting other nodes and then you get this." *shows ultra smooth footage* This really made me think that I am not that stupid for fusion tab :D THANK YOU
I’m honestly so glad to hear that. It’s very common that RUclipsrs won’t demonstrate the philosophy behind nodes, but once you understand how they work the way they do…they’re SO easy. I promise you can use the fusion tab! It’s my favorite part of Resolve! I hope you consider subscribing!!
Thank you, brother! This is damn good stuff and you made it so easy to understand and even implement the simple things that I was struggling to achieve using Fusion. Keep going!
I really love the way you teach lessons with no extra cheese on the pizza. You just get to the point and get on with it. You don't try to be funny or cute. You just teach. You are so much easier to learn from because your lessons are organized to the point. You show how and why things connect which is the key to learning Fusion. Only sonduckfilms comes close. They are also great.
I really appreciate your kind words, Reid! I’m honestly just trying to explain things the way I wish they had been explained to me. Perhaps consider saving this video if you think you’ll be referring back to it later. And I hope you consider subscribing!!
Join me aboard the Adobe hate train lol. I got out of that system a few years ago and I’ve not only kept a lot more money in my pocket but finally been able to see what else the creative world has to offer. I hope you subscribe, I have new content coming daily!
Hey Ethan - Great tutorial. I find your teaching method really easy to follow. Can u please make more tutorials specifically for animation and motion graphics in Fusion. Would really appreciate it. Thank you so much.
This is probably the best tutorial of basics of nodes. My only personal issue is I am red-green colourblind so I fail to distinguish that triangle which is green, so I always have to hover the cursor over it to figure out.
Aw man I’m sorry to hear about your challenges with the triangles but what I can say is that I’m so so stoked you feel like you were able to take away something from my teaching. It’s always good to keep learning and I hope you consider subscribing!
So right now I’m in the process of scripting and planning new videos. I will definitely include some more advanced motion graphics tutorials in there. With the schedule currently, you can expect new videos from inception to release around mid-end of November. Lots of new content is already scheduled and planned!
@@EthanRobbins Resolve? Of course. Adobe is a shit company. I am an "edit page" advanced beginner. I am a scared shitless noob about Fusion. You´ve given me hope🤗. I am looking forward to your tutorial. Gracias
Adobe is a garbage company- I agree. Their dirty business practices and how they refuse to improve their products at the baseline level is crazy to me. I’m so stoked you’re going to stick around, there’s a new tutorial coming in just 2 hours!
"you should at least know this much" Pretty much ends the "EASY" right out of the box. Now I need to find the video titled "YOU SHOULD AT LEAST KNOW THIS MUCH"
Okay, I watched to the end and after the bumpy start I see where you were going. I am glad I just decided to watch and not try to follow along. The information flow is too fasted paced for me but I have found this to be an issue in all the Davinci tutorials I have watched. I do think I will be able to start using FUSION with the aid of your video. Thanks for encouraging me to revisit the video.
Hey man, everyone’s learning style is different so it’s okay if it felt a little fast paced. I think I’m still learning how to balance teaching w the fast delivery of info that people typically come to expect from YT, and I also record and edit with Shorts in mind, so the info being fast paced is on purpose to a degree. If you ever have any specific questions, please feel free to drop them in a comment on any of my videos and I promise I’ll get back to them fast. I’ll be as much help as I can, I’ve made it my mission to get as many people on Resolve and away from Adobe as possible. Here’s to learning! 🥂
Hi Ethan - Great tutorial 👍 The only thing I would suggest is to either lower the background music or just eliminate it altogether. I found myself having to go back and rewatch certain sections of the video because the music was, at least to my ears, louder than what you were explaining in the video and it seemed somewhat distracting. Other than that, very informative video!
Constructive criticism is always welcome! This actually isn’t the first comment I’ve received suggesting this. I already have a few more videos with music ready to go live in the coming weeks, but for the new ones I record I won’t do music! Thanks. And I’m glad you were able to learn something from the video, I hope you consider subscribing and sticking around!
I'm glad that I was able to contribute some valuable feedback for you and I subscribed to your channel right after watching this video. I look forward to future videos!
Hi there! I want to make sure I’m understanding your question correctly, and if I’m not mistaken, it seems you’re inquiring about offsetting the position of the text rather than the timing of the text’s animation. And in that case, if you wanted to preserve the settings designated in the existing nodes, then you are correct, all it would take is just another transform node. You can stack however many instances of whatever node you want to achieve your desired effect. And it’s nice to be able to see all of said nodes laid out in front of you. As for the comparison to AE, I definitely think that this is probably faster than AE (or at least for myself, anyways). I can’t speak for everybody, but I think that if speed was my goal, I could probably set up this animation from scratch in under 45 seconds. But I would consider myself expert level, so I would hope I could get it done that fast. Ease of use might be different for other people. One of the other reasons I prefer Fusion to AE is what I had touched on before: you can see all of your nodes laid out in front of you rather than buried away in different pre-comps and layer groups. Everything flows visually, literally speaking. Hope this helps! :)
@@EthanRobbins thanks for responding, I've been using AE for some time and I think it's just a matter of getting my head around a node-based workflow, but it's a worthy journey :)
@flyingfishdesign62 I would definitely agree. Definitely would recommend learning it. I hope you consider subscribing if you think you can learn anything from my videos! :)
22:20 This isn't necessarily true. You can place your nodes however you want. What determines the order or stack of your nodes is the sequence of in/out connections, not where they live physically on your node plane.
This is Definitely one of the Best Videos on Fusion that hits the Fundamentals of the Node system very well. Thank you so much for this. I am a Brand Identity Designer and I work with Logos a lot and this is my major issue with Fusion, being able to import and animate svg's in a simple way, do you possibly have a system or work around for this?

@Ethan, this tutorial was amazing and so easy to follow. How, or where would I add a keyframe stretcher to this in case the text was longer than simply Subscribe?
Hey! I’m stoked to hear you found the tutorial helpful! In terms of a key frame stretcher (and by that I assume you mean extending the amount of time that it takes to go from one key frame to another), you would open the keyframes editor in Fusion and move the second keyframe further away from the first than it originally was. This way, they become stretched. Is this what you meant?
@@EthanRobbins I was actually thinking about how to use the Keyframe stretcher node. So, instead of writing the text Subscribe, what if I want, Happy Holidays. Without having to go into fusion and adjust the rectangles, does the keyframe stretcher do this for me?
I understand your question better now. You want to make the length of the shapes that contain the text dynamic so that they fit different lengths of text the same. To achieve this would require some complex Fusion work. To simplify that process, you could create a macro that allows you to change the text and length of the rectangle shapes all from within the edit page. For more insight as to how to accomplish that specific task, you can check out my Glitch Text fusion tutorial, and the tutorial for how to parent layers in Fusion. Observe the parts where I go over how to link different properties to each other, and how to create macros so that you can make these adjustments straight from the Edit page.
