Going back for the money is also a good thing to do. The money IS for John and his family. So either way, the last thing Arthur does is a good deed. Though, I believe if Arthur did get that money back to John, it would be worse for John and his family. In the epilogue, John struggles to not get in trouble every week or so. If John had the kind of money the gang had, he would too easily have been able to go live somewhere else with his family. If he had money to settle down, he wouldn't be running around a bunch, stirring up trouble. Without the struggle of seeing Abigail and Jack leave because of his constant trouble-making, I don't think he would have changed as a person. So maybe it's better Arthur didn't get that money back to John.

I can certainly see that for the high honor version! I think the low honor one is specifically supposed to be Arthur making a selfish choice, and I personally believe that high honor go for the money is Arthur going to kill Micah and confront Dutch for what they did to the gang and using the money as an excuse so John doesn't try to help, but I can totally see how high honor Arthur would want for John to have the money. I also fully agree with what you said about John needing Abigail and Jack to leave him so he can grow as a person, and I do agree that the money would have probably prevented that from happening.
