Is Dragon Quest 5 the BEST Dragon Quest!? Let me know! (Yes I said BLADE at the beginning...) Support the channel and hit that LIKE button, it helps out quite a bit!
This is so weird, because I'm currently DQV for the first time and playing the PS2 version myself. The thing that sticks out to me after hitting Generation 3: _I get it._ I get why this game was so well received. For a game originally released in 1992, this would have broken so many peoples brains if they played it. Absurdly ambitious. I don't think it would have completely changed perceptions of the RPG genre outside of Japan at the time, but I could see a world where word-of-mouth back in 92 would have made this game get a ton of attention. _"So you start as a kid in the beginning and play a story that follows him into adulthood and then you get to go on an adventure with his kids?!"_
Finally! Someone else who appreciates this version of the game! Any time someone mentions Dragon Quest I say they should play the ps2 version of V because of how good it is. As much as I appreciate the era we are in with 2D-HD remakes, (I'm looking forward to 3, 1 and 2 also) I wish sometimes these older games would be recreated in 3D in this style as It worked so well for this game. I tried to play the snes version of this and couldn't get into it initially. Not sure why but it felt like an early snes title that may have begun development on nes and wasn't fully utilizing what the snes could do. When I saw this version existed I was drawn in by the graphics and especially the music! The scores to Dragon Quest sound as if they were intended to be played by an orchestra so I feel that element alone was a great reason to keep playing. The graphics also look really nice with everything feeling consistent to what the snes version was trying to achieve, but with the greater detail the 3d graphics enabled it to do on the ps2. This game ended up being my starting point to the franchise as I wasn't sure where to start but read that it was one of the developers favorite games and I can see why. A lot happens in the game and going through 3 generations was quite a novel experience. I can only imagine what that would have been like for those who played this when it initially released. I also played through the first game in a day after this and have been holding out for the new remakes but I will be interested to see if they can beat the impression this game left me with so thanks for playing it and making this video! I hope other people find this game and this version as It's quite the special experience.
Glad you enjoyed this! This's my favorite Dragon Quest game, it's also pretty high up on my favorite Jrpg's list. I've only ever played the DS version of it though, hoping it gets a rerelease eventually more people need to play it!
Surprisingly, my favorite of the DQ series is Builders 2. Endless outlet for creativity, has that DQ charm, monster taming elements, etc. Even though I love 8 and 11, Builders beats them when it comes to pure fun imo.
Bold of you to oomph that statement that far My i introduce you to art DQ swords yeah now this is a legendary title that spans Sands of time and rewinds to a time where no slime could ever gaze at its masterful craftsmenship also we have french lady who fights with only the most impresive magic in all the land bisouka it stuns and attacks with such magnifisent excelente perfection ahh who could forgotten the hero called claymore yes such great name for a great game thank you for your slime have guoo day
Hand of the Heavenly BLADE? Lol. I'm so thrilled you enjoyed this game! I think if I had played DQ games later in life as opposed to growing up with primarily access to DQIV, this may have been my favourite. But as such, IV will always be the winner to me. That being said, V is just up there with the best of the best when it comes to RPGs. I hope you enjoy VI as well! I didn't like it AS much but it wasn't bad any means!
I wish this didn’t have 1st person battles, the only thing holding it back. Same reason I might not buy the new DQ3 remake. Oh well I still have 7/8/9 and 11/12
I played it on SNES just recently and am playing VI on SNES now. After that I think I might replay the Zenethian Trilogy since I got the party chat hack for DQ IV, then I kind of want to play V on PS2 AND DS. DQV was really really good but so far DQ VI feels like such a bigger game so far. Lots of stuff to explore, doesn't feel so linear, i don't always know where to go so I just head out and explore which feels way more DQ to me. V was extremely goid though, don't get me wrong. I liked it enough to play it twice in a row and maybe three times. I wish the PS2 DQIV was translated.
I only played the DS version. Shame the PS2 one didn't release in English officially lol. I love PS2 graphics! I absolutely loved that film by the way. I don't understand how u can dislike it, it was sooooo good and proper made me feel like a kid again lol. Took me way back to so many memories
11:32 metal babbles actually. It is a good idea to farm as much acorns of life so that the metal babble can actually survive a critical hit. imagine a metal babble with 200 hp.
I think,, in my opinion, when it comes to story, 6 is the best from 1-6. Its pretty long gameplay, 2 worlds and some plot twists too. dq4 and 2 were kind boring tbh and dq3 was not only hard but too much punitive you know. Im currintily playin dq11 right now and its perfect. 50 hours and level 42 so far.
The DS version didn't make our 15 Must-Play RPGs. Was expecting more, but apart from the superb prison segment and impressive (for the time) monster taming, I was underwhelmed. FFV and VI were miles better (they made the 15 Must-Play RPGs 🫡)

This game needs a remake. Would love to see it on modern hardware 😊
I'd love if 4, 5, and 6 got more attention. Unfortunately I feel like we're likely to see remakes of 1-3 for the rest of time.
It’s already been remade twice (PS2 and Nintendo DS)
BUT the PS2 version NEVER left Japan their WAS a PS1 version of the 4th game but it never left Japan either.

I'm glad you went with the PS2 version. Vastly superior. That petrification scene especially hits harder in the PS2 version.
In my opinion, Dragon Quest V is probably the second best Dragon Quest behind only Dragon Quest VII.
I’ll get to VII eventually!
dragon quest 11 wants a word with you
7 is the best for sure.
8 and it’s not even close 😜

played it on the DS and thought the same, took me by surprise how good it was
I also think 5 has the best battle music of all of the games.
Great review, Gen!
Dragon Quest is a series I missed out on. But with the Remake of 1-3 coming down the pipe, it seems like a solid point to jump in.
It really impressed me for being such an old game!
Hand of the Heavenly BLADE? Lol.

Yeah I noticed I said it while editing, thought I'd leave it in haha!
Oh I love this one! Definitely a banger! 😊👍🏽
that's the next DQ game I'm gonna play!! I've played DQ 1, 2,4 and 6 so far
Dude I completely forgot about 5 wow I always just remember 7 great games the both of them much love keep enjoying what ya do
I didn't even realise that V had a remake on the ps2. I've got the ds remake sitting there I'll get to it soon heard a lot of great things.
It looks so damn good
I wish this didn’t have 1st person battles, the only thing holding it back. Same reason I might not buy the new DQ3 remake. Oh well I still have 7/8/9 and 11/12
That's what the series is literally known for 😂 definitely not holding it back buddy
This was wonderful! Thanks
Glad you enjoyed it!
I loved DQ Your Story on Netflix. It got me into the series
I played it on SNES just recently and am playing VI on SNES now. After that I think I might replay the Zenethian Trilogy since I got the party chat hack for DQ IV, then I kind of want to play V on PS2 AND DS.

I wish the PS2 DQIV was translated.
Its Papaz in Japanese
Pankraz in the official English localization

Think I need to give it a watch again!
@@GenesisVII Did you not like it then?
@@keblin86 no, I did like it haha. I just seen online that most people was not a fan. I wanna watch it again now I’ve done the actual game
@@GenesisVII haha go for it!! I might have to as well
I prefer Dragon Warrior VII to this, but this story is better than VII's.
I’m curious to know how English version translates ぱふぱふ😂
I knew you were going to like this one

What are your other top 5 games?
Final Fantasy VII, Read Dead Redemption 2, Sonic 3 and Knuckles, Resident Evil 4, Persona 5 Royal
@@GenesisVII strong list!
A shame you don't see your own characters in battle..
Doesn’t really bother me

I don't feel like this could beat the 8 tho
I don’t have an opinion on 8 just yet!
@@GenesisVII hopefully soon;)
I like DS version more
The DS version didn't make our 15 Must-Play RPGs.
