Fuck you.... But in a good way! Jealous as hell! I would give anything to see that show. I wish I had the opportunities back when I was younger that I do now. I would travel anywhere to see emperor.
If this video if your first exposure to the band, please check out some of the studio albums. This footage really doesn't do them justice. At all. And check out 'Bal-Sagoth: Live at Brutal Assault Festival (The Empyreal Lexicon)' - it's superior in every way.
To those criticizing how this band are dressed at this gig, you might prefer their other live videos where they are dressed in battle vests, hoods, and warpaint. For instance their shows in Finland, Norway, Brutal Assault festival and others.
After hearing the soundboard recording of The Empyreal Lexicon on the Armageddon Over Wacken 2004 CD (you can also find it on the official Bal-Sagoth YT channel), I'm astonished Chris was able to cram in all of his parts and play them as tight as he did. Raised my estimation of his playing even more. He was one of my main influences as a young teen learning my way around guitar. Wish I had gotten to witness him ripping out those Sagoth riffs live... Perhaps one day with Kull! Also, I wonder if the audio recordings from the rest of the set still exist... the mix is much better uncompressed on that CD. (Recommend the 1st disc for a fun assortment of now-vintage 2004 live songs!)
These guys are my favorite band of all time. I saw them live in Bradford in 2001 supporting Marduk. They were fucking magnificent! But this bad sound quality really doesn't do them justice.
Sunglasses, t-shirts and baseball caps isn't a good look for them, it's better in their other shows when they have warpaint, swords, cowls and stuff. Fits the lyrics and music far better.
@ fair play mate and thanks for the reply. My comment is coming more from a place of thinking how this is one of my absolute best black metal/symphonic songs ever created, so to hear it performed suboptimally gives me conniptions. I didn't mean to insult the drummer who certainly does well considering the late notice conscription. And yes, you do keep up very well.
yeah cool band, but still their shows with the facepaint and costumes are way better, just better fitting to the bands concepts. They should have played at a night slot, too!
Who gives a crap who doesnt like a freakin 12 year old gig, there are way better Bal Sagoth videos out there where they have swords and warpaint and look like Braveheart and sht... and that sound way better. Go watch those. :/
TheUndescribableMan yes on this show it wasnt that great. Finland show was amazing according my friend who was there. Records are very well done, very good musicianship especially with levels of symphonic parts of the records. Byron is a bit more unique with his spoken word, which he didnt use in this song. Hey not saying you have to like them. I listen to the whole story at lest once a year. its spread over 6 albums. Wish they released 7,8 and 9 but the hexalogy is complete.
TheIndescribableMan not really, listen to scourge of the fourth celestial host.. That's mixed rather brilliantly for its complexity. It seems none of their good live material is able to be found.
The music is excellent but ...I am quite dissapointed with the frontman...his appearance doesn't fit with the epic music at all!! he sometimes reminds me to Eminem grabbing the microphone in that way...wtf!!!
You're a metal musician and you dress like a rapper? Um, yeah! 😒NO! 😡 I'm so ashamed that I can't even watch the rest of this video. I'm an old-school female metalhead and, even though I'm poor and don't have the money to dress how I envision Myself...I WOULDN'T WEAR MY BALLCAP BACKWARDS AND WESR A BOMBER/SKINHEAD JACKET! 😒 No offense to the real Skins out there. 😉😙
@ with that tempo? No offence to drummer, especially giving the circumstances, but you really nailed it at that speed. I saw live of Arcturus with annoyed Hellhammer who rushed through Shipwrecked... song, with out-of-breath vocalist. THAT was horrible, here is another story.
@ thanks for reply, love Bal-Sagoth works. At first I didn't get it at all than 10 years later on second listening I was hooked to it. Good luck to all your beginnings.
This is NOT how I imagined Bal Sagoth singer would look like.
You would never expect the vocalist to look like this lol
"A TALE, FROM THE DEEP-A, WOODS-A!"
That is indeed how it's pronounced.
Triple H vibes
I saw them with Emperor back in 1997 and they were excellent! I've been a fan since the "Starfire..." album.
+Bermondseybob I was at that gig :P
+Bermondseybob Yo. You guys are pretty tigheeet. Yo.
Fuck you.... But in a good way! Jealous as hell! I would give anything to see that show. I wish I had the opportunities back when I was younger that I do now. I would travel anywhere to see emperor.
Love how Byron looks like a frontman of nu-metal band. XD
Sympho-Rap Metal
Yep, I thought it was Fred Durst in the thumbnail!
what? you thought that he was like Gandalf?
He left his cape at home :(
A Taaaale-aa From The Deep-aa Woods-aaaaa!!!
Wow, a Dark Funeral Schott jacket and a Punisher cap. Must be how you dress properly IN THE DEEPAAAAA WOODSAAAAAAAA
And a BC Rich to boot!
This band was so ahead of its time....
For sure it sounds like they had a huge influence on bands like Nightwish & Children of Bodom
@@PeaceDwelleryou can also hear a really strong influence in certain Moonsorrow songs, as well as some Wintersun
One of the best bands ever so underrated

@@BlackSailPass_GuitarCovers Thanks. I worshipped their albums back in the day :).
Love the drummer´s easy style , astounding.. great Performance by Byron as well
Best band to ever exist, genius musicians making sonic landscapes way beyond normal comprehension but enjoyable by all now that is artistry
Nice definition. Those dudes are on the road since early 2000s maybe the new generation of metal fans can get their sonority properly.
To those criticizing how this band are dressed at this gig, you might prefer their other live videos where they are dressed in battle vests, hoods, and warpaint. For instance their shows in Finland, Norway, Brutal Assault festival and others.
People actually care about how a band dresses? Cringe. There's no need to look "metal."
There is also no problem to look like Limp Bizkit when playing this folk metal.
Just leave the Limp Bizkit alone :D
@@danielfurr7356 The guitarist seems to care. That look at 0:37 says it all.
SPLENDID
So underrated, love Bal Sagoth!
I still miss these guys so much. Damn.
Bal Sagoth rules!!
BEST liveband in history!
"I want what he's having!"
Limpbal-Sabizkit
Best comment.
They don't have the same sound live...but they're still damn good.
I like that they're wearing normal stuff.
1997, first show I went to. Byron was painted and swinging an axe about !
underated band !! love them
Gotta love Too-Cool Jones on drums
1:01 "We had an album that we brought out in 1998 called Ford Model Magic Johnson" thank you captions for confirming this is true
Still the same captions after two years. hahaha
Hilarious

lads off his tits on whiz
can't believe this is real, fucking hilarious
I love the punisher hat and bomber jacket combo
COME BACK, BAL-SAGOTH...!! 🤘🤘🖤
that is a Dark Funeral tour jacket. I think Bal sagoth once toured with Dark funeral in the 90s.
These guys are my favorite band of all time.
I saw them live in Bradford in 2001 supporting Marduk. They were fucking magnificent!
But this bad sound quality really doesn't do them justice.
While I'll be listening to bands that play metal that actually look metal, so, um, I'm going to go listen to Venom now. BY-IE! 😋
Balimp-Bisagoth
very nice, do u have the rest of the show?????????'
I love Bal-Sagoth, but I am disappointed to see he doesn't have that narrator voice from the albums. Was his throat just tired that week?
That's entirely possible.
Better quality? THAN WHAT?!
Enable captions at 1:00 LMAO.
Holy doody I didn't know the lead vocalist of Bal Sagoth was a fuggin canoe!
Yup, they also toured with Emperor apparently
All!
Hail!
Bal

Go
Th-a!!!
...Is that a Dark Funeral patch on his jacket?
I've just started listening to them. Yeah the singer dressed like Durst, but he already doesn't sound like a douchebag👍🏽
Sunglasses, t-shirts and baseball caps isn't a good look for them, it's better in their other shows when they have warpaint, swords, cowls and stuff. Fits the lyrics and music far better.
wait, i thought metal wasn't about appearance :D
I didn't know Fred Durst was the lead singer.
Bal-Sagoth gone hooligan.
Vandal Sagoth
His mic was super low, unfortunately.
So underrated band..
best band on earth, period
Limp Bizkit?
+Winston Balafre Hahahaa
I thought so too!
Soggy Brisket?
don't do speed, kids.
They really should have played to a metronome. Drummer sped up WAY too fast and made it impossible for the guitarist to play it properly.
@ fair play mate and thanks for the reply. @@douglas2437 What did he say?
@Black Sail Pass - Guitar Covers hmm sorry I forgot. I think it was about how the sound was atrocious on stage.
Amazing band and incredible live. Regardless, this is poor...
yeah cool band, but still their shows with the facepaint and costumes are way better, just better fitting to the bands concepts. They should have played at a night slot, too!
Mackintosh in a drums?
I love their shows from Turku in Finland and also Portugal. Full war gear and battle paint and much better atmosphere than this wacken show.
Fred durst on the mic
DJ Byron xD no offense :3 I love Bal-Sagoth ^^
Fuck n awesome
I wonder why then they didnt do too much live events

Turku, Finland. Helsinki, Finland. Brutal assault festival, Czech Republic. Bradford Rio, UK. Heathen Crusade 2 festival, USA. There are others.
Bal sagoth 🇬🇷🤟🔥
Bro this vocal sucks live, its better in the record
Fred durst!!
Bratwurst!
Not a good show. their footage from Finland is way better and more atmospheric.
Too much cocaine
Really bad sound @ that show sounds like.
これステージに上がる格好なの?
こりゃダメだわ
Their image, vocalist, is so poor.
lol sweet
not impressed by the outlook...
wow this is fuckin horrendous
+TheUndescribableMan Bal Sagoth rules. To sound good they probably need another 3 keyboard players. Also this is not a properly mixed video file.
I dunno their stuff is a bit of a symphonic mess. Their vocalist is just soo terrible, really embarrassing to listen to.
TheUndescribableMan yes on this show it wasnt that great. Finland show was amazing according my friend who was there.

he's british
I am happy to see at least this.
ubili. eto.
What a shitty atmosphere... well, at least they sound fucking great on their albums.
This sucks. Definitely not a live performance quality band
I love bal sagoth but this is complete trash

@@rarogoff Hell yeah Chris Maudling from Bal -Sagoth answered you!!!!!!!! Shame that he didn't left his comment, I was curious.
Are they playing shit metal?
No they're playing symphonic barbaric metal.
Why Clueless people insist to expose their unawareness..?
Correction: it's Scottish symphonic folk Celtic melodic rap regeton nu blackened death core baseball California dark metal
Vocal's having a bad outfit for the gig. He should wear the wizard robe while holding the wand, instead
