What a clever way to use selvages!!! Great idea! I started saving them a while back but I have yet to make anything with them. Now you have me thinking about some projects with them. Thanks.
Love this idea to use your selvedges. I think it would be easier to fold over the out edge and sew down. Then if you want you could do a second row of stitching on the top.
Hi Kristin! I make 2 1/2" felt hearts ornaments with dangling ribbons that I donate to charity. I replaced some of the dangling ribbons with selvedges from a veteran's quilt I am making. I also add eyelash yarn. The hearts are sewn shut with embroidery floss and stuffed. They look so cute with the different colored selvedges added. You could add the hearts to packages, a Christmas tree or just as a hanging decoration. So cute. Pat in Florida.
I love this idea. Ruby star society selvages have made appearances in many of my quilts because they are just too pretty to cut. Lovely to see the janome back in action too! 😉
That's a great project but I don't save my selvedges. It just seems overwhelming to save one more thing. I do love watching all the great ideas you come up with. Thanks for your videos
Haven't thought to do that because I don't like a raw edge on each piece...and 1/4 inch seams would make mere slivers of colors and a very heavy block. Occasional narrow leftovers in crumb strips 3/4 inch wide make a nice flash of 1/4 inch... but has two good seams. Your selvedge blocks are pretty long or short ))))
Two things came to mind as I watched this video. First thought was how about folding your border over the selvages, stitching it down and then pressing it outward and topstitching it. Second thought I had was if you trimmed the blocks to be square you could rotate every other one in a rail fence fashion. I recently started saving selvages but have yet to do anything with them. Do you have a set width you trim your selvage? I’ve been doing like 2 1/2-3”.
No I don’t have a set width for the selvedges- just however they get trimmed off. And absolutely you can change up this block to make it worn for you so many different ways!
No, i don't use selvages. I used to give away all my scraps to "the church ladies", but have started keeping them two years ago. I intend to make a scrappy sampler, someday. 😂
So far, my selvedges have not yet been used for anything other than dusting off little bits of my sewing table - sounds bad i know but i pile them up as i cut them off, and as i eventually swipe the pile off the table at the end of each project, they take the dust with them 😂😂 I don't have enough for anything yet, but one day .....
How do you use your selvages?
I haven’t used selvages before but I will now! Love the look of these blocks! Thank you for sharing, Kristin!
@Loridye3605 thanks! So glad you liked it!
Love the way you tackled using selvages and the way you did the "binding" as well. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks
Love it, winging it is my genre. Thank you❤
Kristen always amazes😊
Thanks!
Well done, you never cease to amaze me with your creativity!
Thank you 💕
A great way to use something most of us throw away. Thank you for the lesson
Thanks for watching!
You're so clever! Great way to seal the raw edges. I have so many selvages from those mask mask-making days. This will be a good way to use them.
So glad you liked it!
You are so real and inspirational! Thanks!
Thanks so much!
I just started saving pretty selvages. Thanks for the fun idea for future use of them 😊
Have fun with it!

Glad you liked it! Some selvages are just so pretty - it’s a shame not to use them!
Wonderful! Love it! ❤😊
Thanks so much!

Of course you can change it up to work for you. We all have to find our own ways to do things!

Sounds fab!

Thanks! That repair hurt but it is back in action now thankfully!
I keep on collecting selvages for a bigger project. Until now I used them only in a book case quilt as titles for the books.
I’ve used selvages before but this idea of yours is awesome. Thanks!
Thanks!
Happy dance!🙌🏻🙏

Thanks! There are only so many hours - we all have to choose the projects that speak to us! Have fun with whatever you are working on!

Yes long rectangles- as long as they are all the same size they will fit together!

I have to be in a certain mood to feel like tackling the selvages - but it’s fun when I do.

😂 sounds like a fun end of project ritual you have going!
Thank you Kristen, I have been saving my selvedges and have a few projects in mind. Thank you very much for sharing.
Thanks for watching!
I save selvedges and have made a zipper pouch with them, which I use for sewing notions when I travel.
@sharonkulick7307 lovely!
