There's a method where you only tie it to one strand of hair, you can brush through it no issue. You have to use a small tool to do it, I prefer it over this method ^_^
It will and should come out on its own as the knots kind of gradually loosen and slide down anyway, since it's a very smooth synthetic material. If you want to, you can very easily find and slide the knots down the length of the hair until they're off. The more you brush through and play with the tinsel, the faster they will loosen and slide off the hair strands. In fact I would say it's a downside of this method of application. If you want stronger hold, I find extension beads and pliers to be a longer-term option.
