If someone made a server with a vanity url that's my legal name, that doesn't give me rights to the server url, that's idiotic. I will be thoroughly disappointed if Discord goes through with it.

I was actually at risk of this happening. A fairly large crypto company wanted my url, despite me holding the url for a whole year before they even existed. Fortunately like most crypto operations, they shut down a few months ago this year. I feel in an alternate time line where discord did add NFT integrations and gave into the money and favoritism I may have been screwed over.
I mean, i respect the hustle and in reality it would be cool if he forced Porche to pay up a tiny fraction of a percentage of their networth to him... but he probably knew how Discord treats cases like this, so he is probably not getting any money and discord will 100% side with a global brand who will spend potentially tons of money on discord and potentially even bribe them to take the link (who knows what goes on behind closed doors).
update: furkan's server still holds the vanity link, but the server is read-only and the only readable message is an invite link to the Official Porsche server.

I once had someone take our vanity through botting for a month when the game our server was for had released & we fell under the boost requirements for a minute. We looked at it, laughed used the other vanity our server had, & still gained 10 times the members that other server got lol.

This happened to a VRChat avatar creator by the name of Godfall. This person very much has a business, and made big money selling avatars for VRChat. He was (and still is) *the* Godfall. Yet some game of the same name (which came after) got Discord to steal his vanity link.
This video was a rollercoaster. For once, I do not like the whole NFT idea, but I will not be defending that random guy who took the URL hostage. First and foremost, he didn't even get the boosts through normal means (such as paying for all the boosts yourself), he had to use third-parties to boost his server. My assumption is that those third-parties definitely have something sketchy going on, such as compromised accounts, which is why they probably offer better prices that Discord (else why use third-parties in the first place?). Secondly, he had literally no use for that name. It is not like he had some server that actually required it, he literally just claimed it to earn money off of it, which is very cheap. Third, I absolutely hate people that do stuff like that. They have nothing to do with the company, yet because they are a successful company, they think they can earn money off of them by doing such stunts. I've seen similar things happen to small companies and groups, and it is very cheap. Overall, we have the NFT trash vs the trash person. Yes, I know that calling a person trash isn't nice, but holding something for a ransom is truly a scummy move. Overall, pretty interesting development, and although I don't support NFTs, I truly hope Discord gives the name to Porsche.
Tbh in porches defence it sucks having some random guy steal ur vanity (intentionally). Ive had something similar happen once. I own a minecraft server with alot of members and some guy took the vanity intentionally trying to make alot of money. I did offer him 200$ but he ghosted me. I know shouldve offered more. but ehh after 1month it was gone and now that guy is a staff member in my server. I do give him nitro.
at this point if i were Krunch or whoever handles Porsche's stuff, i would have just made a different server with the invite being eth_porsche, instead of having to even like.....tease the notion of having to pay someone to give them back a vanity link that uses your company name or whatever......

When I'm speaking German I'll say porsch*e*, but when I'm speaking English I usually just drop the E.
