    Fuel filter in the engine bay?!? Ooooh controversial! Lol
    I was taught to and always do run them under the bus, in the engine bay there is a risk they could split and cause a fire. Always massive debates on this on the forums.

      As long as you change them yearly, they're perfectly fine in the engine area. Do your due diligence, "ounce of prevention... :)

      Here in Brazil, is very common, the only other person who give the ideia to put it down the bus was our trusted mechanic, but it is very rear to hear someone else talk about it!

    I'd like to add do not use the Bosh clear fuel filters with unflared ends if you are using conventional rubber fuel lines with worm clamps. Without flared ends the clamps won't hold the fuel lines on the filter no matter how tight you get them. 👍

    I bought my first '71 VW Super Beetle about few months ago, and I am so glad I came across this video. It reminded me to check my air cleaner. I literally paused this video, went to my garage to open up the air cleaner... and what do you know... very little oil inside and gunk 😕. Do I use the same oil that I used for the engine (GTX conventional 20w - 50) to put in the air cleaners? Thanks! Love your channel. ❤

    Thanks guys. Hey, I just got a new 1776 for the HiBearN8R and was curious what weight oil you like to run. In the old days vw's called for straight 30W, but now with the Advent of technology, there's all these multi-vis oils out there . What do you like?

    • @VWLifeVW
      @VWLifeVW  4 года назад +2

      well this is a conversation that we had that was about an hour long. the short answer is whatever works best for you and your vehicle in your climate. 10w40 " These days most Beetle shops will recommend a good multi-grade oil, say a 20W-50 for weather above freezing, and a 10W-30 for snowy winter use. Generally it's better to stay away from the 10W-40s, as they have a higher content of long-chain polymers to get the 40 rating from a thin base, and the polymers are not lubricants themselves." www.vw-resource.com/engine_oil.html

      @@VWLifeVW marvelous, the well-informed answer I was looking for. 20-50W it is, for the rest of summer, thanks! ✌️👶✌️

    one question, the air/oil filter, uses new oil? or could use the old engine oil? Greetings!

    • @tommiesmith3369
      @tommiesmith3369 4 года назад +1

      Well you could use the old I guess - the real reason is to trap large debris out of the air as it flows towards the carb.
      I would stick with new when you replace as it is thicker and could help stay in the filter as old thinner used oil may splash more

    • @VWLifeVW
      @VWLifeVW  4 года назад +1

      use new oil, it doesn't take much :)

    • @RRmeanmachine
      @RRmeanmachine 4 года назад +1

      In Jerry the Bus, it actually works out, that if you go to the fill line in the oil bath, then that quart and 2 more quarts equals a complete new oil change!

    Thank you for keeping the VW spirit alive and giving it world wide value...you guys are really cool...I used to drive my 72 VW super beetle from LA across the North American Continent meaning Baja California to the great west cost up to Vancouver...all the way through Canada to the east coast down to the Florida Keys...I took out the back seats and made a comfy zone for sleeping... miss that sound of the VW starting up. and it was never a let down..when the battery was low, no problemo, second gear, push it and there we go....God bless you all and the great state of Texas

    Can I ask a dumb question? When you attach the dwell or timing light to the battery, is it attaching to the positive? Thanks 😊

    • @crackpotts5347
      @crackpotts5347 4 года назад +1

      Yes, timing light, red wire to positive, black wire to ground (any bare metal, not painted) should have a blocky looking clip which goes on your #1 cylinder (as your looking at the engine, right side and toward the front of your vehicle, clip it to that spark plug wire)
      On the Dwell Meter, red to positive, black to ground, other wire goes to condenser side of coil (usually green?) #VWLife !!!
